NEVI EV charger rollout sped up in 2025, still not fast enough due to roadblocks

Photo: Kentucky Transportation Cabinet EV charger installations funded by the US’ federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program finally started to accelerate in 2025, but were still held back by unnecessary federal roadblocks that slowed Americans’ access to clean transportation options, according to a new report. While EV infrastructure is already quite good for long trips and currently covers most main routes across the US, there are a lot of smaller routes that could be filled in, and main routes that could use more coverage as more and more EVs hit the road. So, enter NEVI. NEVI is a part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), passed by Congress in 2021 after being pushed for by President Biden. NEVI dedicated $5 billion to helping states build out electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the country. An additional $2.5 billion was allocated by the similar Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) program. Pirro’s Jerome Powell Fed investigation is hitting roadblocks

Leah Millis | Reuters Federal prosecutors are still pressuring the Federal Reserve over the Trump administration’s allegations that there was some malfeasance involved in ongoing building renovations and Chair Jerome Powell’s testimony to Congress about them. But legal experts say U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro’s investigation appears to be in trouble, and she faces a ticking clock to appeal a judge’s rulings against her.  Investigators from Pirro’s office visited a Fed construction site Tuesday, according to a note sent by the Fed’s legal team to the prosecutors and seen by CNBC. The investigators appeared “without prior notice” and asked for a tour, Robert Hur, an attorney for the Fed, wrote in the note. “Any construction project that has cost overruns of almost 80% over the original construction budget deserves some serious review,” Pirro said in …
