Sykes took to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday to address the incident after a video of him being struck by an object stirred up online. “Alright everyone — just wanted to let you know I’m all good,” he wrote. “The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.” The “Can You Feel My Heart” singer explained that he was “struggling” during the remainder of the performance after he was hit, issuing an apology to audience members. The ecstatic improvisational rough-and-tumble of Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, and Willie “The Lion” Smith stayed hardwired inside his brain, and soon Fagen landed at Bard College, where one day in 1967 he overheard a fellow student, Walter Becker from Queens, playing the blues on his guitar in a campus coffee shop.
