As a brew of crime, romance and family saga, it’s a beguiling oddity in the hands of Charlotte Regan, who announces herself here as one of the most distinctive voices in British television. The star-crossed lovers are Shannon (Emma Laird) and Arran (Benjamin Coyle-Larner, aka rapper Loyle Carner), who lock eyes across a train station. Their world reorganises itself, the frisson undeniable. This is forbidden love, naturally, and not exactly great timing, either: tensions between the families are escalating. Shannon’s father Dylan (a pensive Sam Riley) has caused shockwaves by announcing out of the blue that he’s stepping down as head of the crime syndicate. While most Romeo and Juliet retellings …
Getting scolded by a director is nothing unusual in showbiz but for it to make the actor consider quitting acting? That’s a different story. In a recent interview, Singaporean actor Romeo Tan, who was joined by actress Carrie Wong, recalled the project in which he received the harshest criticism in his 16-year acting career. “I think it’s The Journey: Tumultuous Times,” said the 40-year-old, who played a villainous lawyer in the 2014 Mediacorp series. And you know it must have been bad when Wong, who was present that day, still remembers it vividly – even 11 years on. “Oh my god, I was there,” exclaimed the actress, who also had her breakout role as Tang Shui Mei in the series. Her performance as a newcomer earned her nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Newcomer at the Star Awards 2015. According to Wong, it was her very first day on set. Eager to learn, she had arrived early, hoping to observe and pick up pointers. “I was so traumatised,” she added. “Because Romeo got scolded …
Romeo Beckham had two familiar faces supporting him in the crowd as he walked for Burberry in their London Fashion Week show on Monday. The 23-year-old looked stylish in a deep burgundy bomber jacket with fur lining as he strutted down the runway alongside stars like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Cheering Romeo on from the front row was his DJ girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, who stunned in a black trench coat and knee-high burgundy boots, with her dark hair pulled back into a slick ponytail. Also in attendance at the show was Romeo’s ex-girlfriend, Mia Regan, whom he dated for five years as a teenager. The model and influencer wore a gray dress with a high neckline and a cape that draped over her shoulders and torso. She added pointed heels featuring the Burberry Check pattern, and a matching clutch to complete the look. © WWD via Getty ImagesRomeo walked in the Burberry show during London Fashion Week Romeo and Mia were high school sweethearts, having dated from 2019 to 2024, with the second-eldest Beckham son getting her …

Wearing a rich plum leather bomber jacket with a deep burgundy, fur-trimmed collar, Beckham’s look balanced toughness with softness. The jacket, cut with a relaxed silhouette and elasticated hem, was layered over a baby pink shirt that subtly peeked through at the cuffs and neckline. Co-ordinating textured plum trousers created a tonal look that felt cool and cohesive. There was an aviator influence – a recurring theme throughout the show – cropping up in jackets, glasses and tucked-in trousers. The collection was staged at 1 Billingsgate Walk in London …
Keir Starmer has appointed Antonia Romeo to be the UK’s most senior civil servant, making her the first female cabinet secretary in history. The decision will raise eyebrows, considering Romeo has previously been accused of bullying and questioned over her use of expenses when she was the UK’s consul general in New York. However, the government said the allegations were investigated at the time and there was “no case to answer”. She got the job after a due diligence process overseen by crossbench peer Baroness Gisela Stuart, the First Civil Service Commissioner. Starmer said: “I am delighted to appoint Dame Antonia Romeo as the new cabinet secretary. She is an outstanding public servant, with a 25‑year record of delivering for the British people. “Since becoming prime minister, I’ve been impressed by her professionalism and determination to get things done. Families across the country are still feeling the squeeze, and this government is focused on easing the cost of living, strengthening public services and restoring pride in our communities. It is essential we have a cabinet …
Romeo replaces Wormald in the role (Alamy) 3 min read12 min Keir Starmer has confirmed Dame Antonia Romeo’s appointment as the new Cabinet Secretary, making her the first ever woman to hold the role. Romeo replaces Sir Chris Wormald, who stood down as head of the civil service last week. The changes come amid a wider reshuffle at the top of government. In recent weeks, Morgan McSweeney has resigned as Starmer’s chief of staff, and Tim Allan quit as the Prime Minister’s communications director, following outrage over the decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as US ambassador despite being aware of links to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Romeo, who was formerly permanent secretary at the Home Office, was widely expected to be Starmer’s pick after Wormald’s departure. However, her ascension to the most senior role in the civil service has triggered an extraordinary briefing row. Previous allegations of Romeo’s use of expenses and bullying of staff when she was the UK’s consul general in New York resurfaced, despite investigations at the time concluding there was “no case to …
7 min read1 hr As the Prime Minister prepares to appoint Antonia Romeo as Cabinet Secretary, Ben Gartside looks at the fierce battles to block her appointment In Downing Street, a coronation as new Cabinet Secretary is anticipated for Antonia Romeo. So impressed is the Prime Minister that an expedited process is being sought so the Home Office permanent secretary can be appointed at speed. Romeo would become the first ever woman to hold the position of Cabinet Secretary, though a whisper campaign against her has already formed. Last week, Lord McDonald launched an unprecedented attack via Channel 4, inviting Downing Street to go looking for bodies in Romeo’s resume. In his televised interview, the former Head of Diplomatic Service said: “Due diligence is vitally important, the Prime Minister has recent bitter experience of doing the due diligence too late. It would be an unnecessary tragedy to repeat that mistake… if [Romeo] is the one, in my view, the due diligence has some way still to go.” That intervention meant that previous allegations …
Ever since he baffled GameCube owners with 2005’s Killer7, Japanese game director Suda51 has had a reputation for turning heads. From parodying the banality of open-world games with 2007’s No More Heroes to collaborating with James Gunn for 2012’s pulpy Lollipop Chainsaw, his games often offer a welcome reprieve from soulless, half-a-billion-dollar-budget gaming blockbusters. It was with considerable excitement that I fired up Suda’s first new game in 10 years. The game kicks off with a slick cartoon that shows our hero, Romeo Stargazer, being eaten by a zombie. Hastily resurrected by his zany scientist grandfather, Romeo returns from the brink imbued with new powers – and then we’re off. Almost immediately I am bombarded by an impenetrable wall of proper-noun nonsense. It’s like this for the next 20 hours. Romeo is now a “deadman” – a being trapped between life and death – who has been recruited by the FBI’s space time police to stop interstellar criminals from terrorising the cosmos. Along the way you’ll be taking down wave after wave of unstoppable zombies …
A star rating of 4 out of 5. The games of Suda51 and his studio, Grasshopper Manufacture, are unlike any others. The auteur behind cult classics such as The Silver Case and Killer7 has never held back with his creative vision, flooding his games with anything and everything he can conjure from the corners of his imagination. Now, as Grasshopper prepares to ship its first ever self-published game, Suda has unleashed his staff with that same limitless freedom to do what they do best, resulting in a mishmash of game mechanics, art styles, narrative arcs and music that has no right to work together, but does so with aplomb. Romeo Is a Dead Man stars the titular Romeo Stargazer. Straddling the line between life and death as a ‘Dead Man’ after his mad scientist grandfather pulls him back from the brink, he is enlisted in the FBI Space-Time Police, sent off to slice up interdimensional criminals and find his missing girlfriend Juliet. It’s a characteristically ‘Suda’ setup, and I promise it makes more sense when …
