No one was expecting Blake Lively to appear on the Met Gala red carpet – in sparkling pastel Versace, no less – just hours after the lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her co-star on It Ends with Us, was settled out of court. Lively’s appearance may have been intended as a victory lap, but she has little to celebrate. The two-year-long legal battle, in which she accused her co-star of harassment, sexual misconduct and orchestrating a smear campaign against her, has backfired spectacularly. The film, based on the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover, was a great commercial success. It made $351m (£259m) from a budget of $25m. However, that was immediately overshadowed by the nastiness of the dispute between Lively and Baldoni. Baldoni claimed that Lively tried to control the film by rewriting and editing scenes herself. Warner Bros. is again shifting the release date of its live-action hybrid movie Animal Friends. The road trip adventure feature is now set to hit theaters Jan. 22, 2027, after previously having been scheduled for May 1, 2026. Prior to that, the film had been slated for release on Oct. 10, 2025. Peter Atencio directs the film from a script by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider. Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery and Ellie Bamber round out the cast. The project hails from Legendary, Maximum Effort and Prime Focus Studios. Animal Friends was originally set up at Sony Pictures and shifted to Warner Bros. in 2024 through the studio’s deal with Legendary. Atencio previously directed the comedy features Keanu (2016) and The Machine (2023). He also worked on the Apple TV+ series The Afterparty. Reynolds led 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, which was the second-highest-grossing title at the global box office that year. The Ryan Reynolds-led thriller The Captive has surprised TV fans after landing in the top 10 most popular films on Netflix despite its initial lukewarm reception back in 2014, when it was first released. The flick, which stars Ryan as a father desperate to find his daughter following her abduction, was directed by Atom Egoyan and panned by some critics for its perceived lack of depth and confusing timeline. The Captive has spent a week at number nine in the streaming giant’s top films, bringing it in line with hits like War Machine, Nuremberg, Jurassic World Rebirth, Trolls and KPop Demon Hunters. For the past five years, Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have owned Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club, with their exploits chronicled in the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. The club has had a remarkable turnaround since, securing league promotions, bringing in blue chip sponsors, and making the entertainment titans the toast of the town (population of about 45,000). It also delivered a global fanbase to what had been a small regional soccer team. But there is one thing that the pair has not done with the club, until now: Call a live game. Mac and Reynolds will co-host a live broadcast for the Wrexham AFC vs. Swansea City match on March 13, live from the STōK Cae Ras (the racecourse where Wrexham hosts its matches).
