Tim Dowling: Help! I’m being held hostage by a car salesman | Family

It is a rainy Monday morning and my wife and I are in a car dealership about a mile from home, walking around a shiny new vehicle and peering into its windows. “It looks bigger than our car,” she says. “That’s probably because it’s indoors,” I say. “Imagine how much bigger our car would look if we parked it in the kitchen.” I keep glancing at the time on my phone – we’ve already been here for over an hour, and all because six months ago I casually suggested we should probably consider getting an electric car at some point. I still find it difficult to comprehend the extent to which this is my fault. double quotation mark Standing by while the trade-in value of your vehicle is assessed is not my idea of a good time The last time we bought a car – in Exeter, where our previous car had chosen to die – the man at the dealership refused to believe we were serious buyers. He suspected we were holidaymakers killing time …

Tony Awards face backlash after exiled Hollywood producer wins years after bullying claims

Rudin, 67, took home the coveted trophy as the lead producer on the revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of A Salesman, which stars Laurie Metcalf, Nathan Lane and Christopher Abbott. This marks the fourth time that the play has won best revival, with Rudin also serving as lead producer on the winning 2012 production. Because Rudin was not in attendance at the 79th ceremony of Broadway’s biggest night, Lane accepted the award on behalf of production — and viewers were quick to call out the fact that Rudin’s name was not mentioned on stage even once, despite the play winning the most out of any individual …

Used car salesman (and former German finance minister) Christian Lindner to be promoted – POLITICO

Used car salesman (and former German finance minister) Christian Lindner to be promoted – POLITICO

Lindner is a car enthusiast and is known for driving a vintage Porsche. He served as finance minister for three years in the troubled three-party coalition government of previous Chancellor Olaf Scholz, which collapsed in late 2024, leading to an election. Lindner’s pro-business and car-friendly FDP crashed out in that election, failing to garner the 5 percent of votes required to secure seats in the German parliament. The ailing liberals have failed to make the 5 percent threshold in the every state election since then. While Lindner was mostly off the grid in the months after the government collapse, he has made several media appearances since last fall. Source link

‘Death of a Salesman’ at Noise Within disappoints, ‘The Price’ thrives

When the world is topsy-turvy, the theatergoing public seeks explanations. Arthur Miller provides something better: moral intelligence. He doesn’t tell his audience what to think but challenges them to think harder. There’s clearly a hunger right now for Miller’s work. His plays are back in high demand in Los Angeles, New York and London. A new revival of “Death of a Salesman,” starring Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf, is in previews on Broadway. And a less starry production of Miller’s masterpiece opened last weekend at Pasadena’s A Noise Within. “All My Sons,” Miller’s breakthrough play about capitalism’s warped ethics in the guise of a domestic drama, just finished a successful run at Antaeus Theatre Company in Glendale. And National Theatre Live will screen the recent London production, starring Bryan Cranston and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, in April and May courtesy of Boston Court Pasadena and L.A. Theatre Works. (Late last year, I caught a screening at the Wallis of another London revival, the 2019 production starring Bill Pullman and Sally Field.) Dana Dewes and Scott G. Jackson …

I’m a car salesman. The electric vehicles mandate is a joke

I’m a car salesman. The electric vehicles mandate is a joke

What we’re witnessing right now is the biggest transformation in the motor trade since I joined as a trainee salesman in 1984. Probably as seismic as the shift from horse and cart to the internal combustion engine (Ice) in the early 1900s. Our forecourts are increasingly lined with the latest electric vehicles, with incredible offers, and my staff are being drilled by the biggest auto manufacturers on how to lure customers to the green side – they’re even sending specialist trainers in. But there’s one problem – where are the people who want to buy them? Electric vehicles (EVs) will be the future one day, but right now we can still only sell around one electric vehicle for every four petrol, diesel or hybrid cars. Customers don’t have the appetite yet. Indeed, the industry is now warning that the Government’s 2035 ban on new petrol and diesel cars looks impossible to meet as things stand, with manufacturers calling for an urgent review of the UK’s Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. Public acceptance is still a …
