Ah, American Horror Story. Perhaps one of the most inconsistent yet utterly captivating series on TV, Ryan Murphy’s ode to the horror genre has been running for 15 years and (now) 13 seasons, ranging from excellent to bizarre. The show resurrected the anthology format and, for the first few seasons anyway, was one of the best and most popular shows on television. The beauty of an anthology series is that each new season is a fresh start with new characters and new ideas. And Murphy sure isn’t short of new ideas. The downside of an anthology show is that the quality can vary wildly from season to season and nowhere is that more evident than American Horror Story. From near-perfect seasons of television to wildly inconsistent and incomprehensible seasons, AHS has given us everything and the kitchen sink across its run. Developed by Sheryl J. Anderson and based on the novels of the same name by Sherryl Woods, the series starred JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley as three friends born and raised in a small southern town “where everybody knows everybody and everybody knows everybody’s business,” according to an official description. However, the news is bittersweet for fans of the romantic drama, as Deadline reports that the streamer has ordered a new drama from Anderson and Swisher titled Ladies of the House. The new series is loosely based on Lauren Edmondson’s 2021 novel that puts a modern spin on Jane Austen’s classic Sense and Sensibility. Netflix has canceled its drama series Sweet Magnolias after five seasons, but its showrunner and one of its lead actresses are also involved in a new show at the streamer. The cancellation of Sweet Magnolias, based on novels by Sherryl Woods, comes three months after season five premiered on Netflix. The show’s audience, both worldwide and in the United States, had fallen off in the fourth and fifth seasons. Season five spent three weeks in Netflix’s worldwide top 10 for English-language series (based on the streamer’s internal data) and four weeks in Nielsen’s U.S. charts. The show stars JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley as three long-time best friends who rely on one another through the ups and downs of their lives. As for the new series: Sweet Magnolias showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson and Garcia Swisher are executive producing Ladies of the House, based on a novel by Lauren Edmondson. Based on Jodi Thomas’s book series, the drama starred Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly and followed three ranching dynasties as they battled over land and power in a tight-knit Texas community. Now, just a few months after the show’s second season aired on July 23, the streamer has decided not to move forward with a third, Deadline first reported. The Independent has approached Netflix for comment. Ransom Canyon will not be returning for a third season at Netflix. The streamer has canceled the Texas romantic drama starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly after two seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The decision came a few months after the eight-episode second season premiered on July 23. Ransom Canyon, created by April Blair, followed three ranching dynasties in a small Texas town as they fight for their land, their legacies and the people they love. In addition to Duhamel and Kelly, the cast also included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Casey W. The self-professed queen of drag, RuPaul The BBC has confirmed that the current season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will be the last with the corporation. On Wednesday night, the broadcaster confirmed that Drag Race UK had been axed after eight seasons (as well as three iterations of its international RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World format). “As the BBC continues to navigate significant financial pressures and deliver the savings required of us, we have had to make some very difficult choices, none of which have been taken lightly,” a BBC rep said. The spokesperson added that the BBC was “proud” of “this groundbreaking show”, before thanking host and head judge RuPaul, production company World Of Wonder and “everyone involved, both on and off screen”. A gothic gem overlooking Venice’s iconic lagoon got a refresh in time for the Venice Film Festival. Reservations are open at Danieli, Venice, a Four Seasons Hotel following a restoration process that was unveiled this summer and remains ongoing at the property’s adjacent palazzos and within a soon-to-be finished Danieli Spa. Located on the waterfront stretch known as Riva degli Schiavoni and within walking distance from the wildly popular tourist destination Piazza San Marco, aka St. Mark’s Square, Danieli is often praised by guests for its views of the lagoon from both the terrace and inside the rooms and suites. French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon steered the renovation by focusing on a “balance of history, light and materials” per Four Seasons. The color palette is said to have been inspired by the lagoon and mixed with inspiration from Venice’s marble facades, plasterwork and architecture through the use of celadon greens, soft blues, terracotta, ochre and powder pink.
