FKA twigs sues ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf over ‘unlawful’ NDA

FKA twigs sues ex-boyfriend Shia LaBeouf over ‘unlawful’ NDA

Singer-songwriter FKA twigs is suing her ex-boyfriend, actor Shia LaBeouf, claiming that he is trying to “silence” her from speaking out against sexual abuse through the use of an “unlawful” nondisclosure agreement. The complaint, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, seeks a court order to prohibit LeBeouf from enforcing sections of an NDA which Tahliah Barnett — the Grammy Award-winning singer’s legal name — says violates California law. “Shia LaBeouf has tried to control Tahliah Barnett for the better part of a decade,” the filing states. “This action was taken in response to Mr. LaBeouf’s attempt to bully and intimidate twigs through a frivolous and unlawful secret arbitration he filed against her in December in which he sought to extract money from her,” said the singer’s attorney Mathew Rosengart, national co-chair of media & entertainment litigation at Greenberg Traurig in Century City, in a statement. Rosengart added that twigs “refuses to be bullied anymore. She is instead standing up for herself and other survivors of sexual abuse who have improperly been silenced. This …

Why some Muslims are mourning the death of Ayatollah Khamenei as others celebrate

Why some Muslims are mourning the death of Ayatollah Khamenei as others celebrate

(RNS) — The killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader for nearly four decades, on the first day of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran is triggering starkly different reactions in the Middle East and around the globe. Not only the Muslim world’s longest-serving ruler, Khamenei was also one of the most powerful Shiite clerics in the world. Among Muslims, the responses are split mostly along sectarian lines. Despite his tyrannical rule that killed more than 7,000 Iranians just in the past eight months, many in Iran, a majority Shiite nation, are mourning Khamenei as a martyr. Hundreds of others have been captured on video celebrating his demise, chanting and dancing in jubilation.  The broad range of Iranians’ reactions reflects the country’s political diversity, said Mehdi Shadmehr, associate professor of public policy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who compared the ideological split in Iran to the United States or Russia. “We may be inclined to assume that nearly all Russian citizens despise Putin,” said Shadmehr, noting evidence that many do not, …

Shia LaBeouf Arrested Again on Battery Charge, Denies Drinking Problem

Shia LaBeouf has been arrested again in New Orleans. According to Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office records, LaBeouf was taken into custody Saturday and charged with one additional misdemeanor count of simple battery. The Transformers star’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, said that after learning New Orleans police had issued a new arrest warrant Friday, LaBeouf voluntarily turned himself in to the Orleans Parish jail, according to the Associated Press. “No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident,” Chervinsky said. “Just as he does not deserve preferential treatment, Mr. LaBeouf also does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure.” The legal trouble began during Mardi Gras earlier this month. LaBeouf was arrested Feb. 17 following an altercation at R Bar in the Faubourg Marigny. Authorities said he became aggressive and allegedly fought with two men, both of whom told police he assaulted them. LaBeouf is accused of punching one bartender multiple times …

Shia LaBeouf’s arrest in New Orleans in the early hours of Tuesday, as the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations were underway, is facing fresh scrutiny, as an alleged victim of the actor’s rampage that night says he was targeted in the confrontation, which he is characterizing as an alleged hate crime. The altercation that took place 15 minutes after midnight at R Bar in the city’s Faubourg Marigny neighborhood — video of which circulated widely online, showing the latter of a belligerent LaBeouf’s Jekyll and Hyde display as he was restrained outside the bar — left two bartenders injured and the actor facing two counts of simple assault; he was quickly released by early afternoon Tuesday on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on March 19.  Jeffrey “Dammit,” a longtime local fixture and master of ceremonies at various New Orleans events, is also a Screen Actors Guild member who now resides and works in Hollywood most of the year. He told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday that he makes multiple trips back to …
