In the second part of the individual women’s figure skating event at the Winter Olympics, Glenn had been sitting in the kiss-and-cry area after assuming first place following her free skate. However, when Petrosian — who had tumbled while attempting a quad toeloop — about to receive her scores, the camera panned over to Glenn, who was seen smiling. The video quickly went viral on social media as people assumed Glenn was pleased with the skater messing up critical parts of her free skate. Glenn went on to defend herself on X as she responded to someone who posted the video, …

Olympic Figure Skater Isabeau Levito Pays Homage to Sophia Loren at the Winter Olympics 2026

Olympic Figure Skater Isabeau Levito Pays Homage to Sophia Loren at the Winter Olympics 2026

Isabeau Levito has realized the dream she has cherished since childhood: skating in the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. For her, competing in Italy is a homecoming of sorts. Born and raised in the United States, the 18-year-old Levito has Italian origins; her mother, a biologist who in the late 1970s chose to change her life by moving overseas, was born in Italy, and her grandmother and other close relatives also live in Brianza, a few kilometers away from the ice skating arena. Levito, a former US national champion in 2023 and silver medalist at the World Championships in 2024, brings a signature lightness and grace to the ice. But she also paid homage to her Italian origins by emulating Italian screen star Sophia Loren. In her Olympic debut with the short program, Levito performed to a medley of two songs: “Almost in Your Arms” from the film A Husband for Cynthia, which Loren sings alongside Cary Grant, and La Miliardaria, a song with a more upbeat rhythm and sharper movements. Isabeau Levito channels Sophia …

Ilia Malinin reveals what he told fellow Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn after her emotional short program

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more American figure skater Ilia Malinin has opened up about a conversation he had with his fellow Team USA teammate, Amber Glenn, after her costly mistake during the women’s individual figure skating competition at this year’s Winter Olympics. Glenn and her fellow “Blade Angels,” Alysa Liu and Isabeau Levito, took the ice Tuesday in the women’s short program. The 26-year-old popped out of her final jump early following a mostly mistake-free routine, skating off the ice in tears and landing in 13th place headed into Thursday’s free skate. Malinin suffered a similar fate, botching multiple jumps during his own free skate. He planned to be the first man to land seven quads in a single Olympic event, including the difficult quad axel. While he landed …

Olympic skater Alyssa Liu’s ‘smiley’ piercing may look cool – but the trend poses serious health risks

The 20-year-old athlete, from California, has what’s called a frenulum or “smiley” piercing, one thatpierces the skin connecting the gums to the upper lip. Liu did the piercing herself, she explained in an interview before the games. But while the body jewelry may look cool, experts warn getting these piercings come with a risk of infection and can damage oral health. Mouth piercings are particularly risky because of the millions of bacteria that live in our mouths, according to Colgate. “There’s a greater risk of infection when you pierce the inside of your mouth versus getting your ears pierced because of the bacteria,” the mouth care brand says. open image …

Danny O’Shea and Ellie Kam are on a mission to spread joy at the Olympics — and it’s been going well so far. In their Olympic debut last weekend, they scored a personal best in their free skate, outperforming expectations to help the U.S. win gold in the team event by a single point. “I wanted to cry, but I couldn’t because I was so happy, so then we both ended up screaming at each other,” Kam said. “[Joy] is something that we discussed as a team, just trying to enjoy every single moment. I think the crowd could feel it.” It’s been a long time coming for O’Shea, who turned 35 on Friday. O’Shea skated competitively for …

U.S. medal hopes in figure skating came down to one skater. Ilia Malinin was golden.

U.S. medal hopes in figure skating came down to one skater. Ilia Malinin was golden.

MILAN — Two days and 11 skaters into figure skating’s team event, the United States’ gold-medal hopes hinged on one final skater. Follow along for live updates Ilia Malinin, who at only 21 years old had already earned a world championship and developed an ability to pull off tricks no other man in history had accomplished, had to catch himself on a stumble that drew gasps, then threw a backflip — his second in as many nights, and in Olympic history — that drew screams. Then, he had to wait out the routine of Japan’s last entrant. It was nail-biting, nerve-wracking theater that ended with all of the air sucked out of a once-raucous Milan Ice Skating Arena as Shun Sato’s final score was read through the stadium’s public-address system. When it fell well short of Malinin’s score, seven U.S. athletes who had competed in the team event hugged one another just feet from the ice. The final score read U.S. 69, Japan 68. Italy secured the bronze with 60 points. Malinin has earned his …

Canadian figure skater Madeline Schizas shares homework woes on social media

Even Olympians have to turn in their homework. Madeline Schizas, a Canadian figure skater and student at McMaster University in Ontario, shared a post on social media revealing that she had to ask her professor for an extension on an assignment. She had a pretty good excuse though — “I was competing in the Olympic Games yesterday.” Follow along for live updates. “I am a student in your Sociology 2FF3 course and am wondering if I could get a short extension on this week’s reflection,” Schizas wrote in an email to her professor. “I was competing in the Olympic Games yesterday and thought the reflection was due on Sunday, not Friday.” Schizas attached a link to a Canadian Olympic Committee press release to prove her participation. She captioned the social media post, “LOLLLL I❤️being a student athlete.” The figure skater, who participated in the 2022 Beijing Games, competed Friday in women’s single skating, earning a score of 64.97. She’ll be competing again Sunday night in the team event. CORRECTION (Feb. 7, 2026, 6:34 p.m. ET): …
