Arizona court battle against Kalshi slows amid legal scope disputes

A fight over prediction markets, federal authority, and Arizona gambling law is moving onto a slower track after all sides asked for more time, even as they continue arguing over what a temporary court order actually blocks. In a joint status report filed Monday (April 20) in U.S. District Court in Arizona, the United States, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Kalshi, and Arizona officials said they had met under a prior court order and were updating the judge on scheduling. The state also said, “Defendants consent to extending the current Temporary Restraining Order through the hearing date and to such time as the Court decides the Motion for Preliminary Injunction.” The temporary restraining order was issued …

BetMGM starts 2026 profitable but growth slows and outlook narrows slightly

BetMGM starts 2026 profitable but growth slows and outlook narrows slightly

BetMGM entered 2026 still making money, though its latest results point to a business that has lost some of last year’s momentum. First-quarter net revenue reached $696 million, up 6% from the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA rose 11% to $25 million. The company remains profitable after a strong 2025, but the pace is clearly more modest now. BetMGM will help kick off the latest gaming industry corporate earnings season April 14; among the stories to watch will be potential handle slowdown hitting much of the rest of the industry as sportsbooks' profit margins increase and prediction markets trading volume grows — Ryan Butler (@ButlerBets) April 9, 2026 Sports betting is where the slowdown appears to stand out most. Online sports revenue rose to $203 million in the quarter, a 4% increase. That is far below the growth rates seen through 2025, when the segment posted gains of 68% in the first quarter, 56% in the second, and 36% in the third. iGaming continues to carry more of the business, with revenue up …

Psilocybin slows down human reaction times and impairs executive function during the acute phase of use

Psilocybin slows down human reaction times and impairs executive function during the acute phase of use

The acute influence of psilocybin slows down human reaction times and mildly impairs parts of cognition that coordinate behavior. These short-term effects scale with the dose of the drug, highlighting a need for supervision and safety measures while the substance is active in the body. The findings were recently published in the journal Psychopharmacology. Psychedelic substances are increasingly being evaluated for their therapeutic potential in treating conditions like anxiety and depression. As these drugs move toward broader clinical acceptance, researchers are attempting to understand exactly how they alter immediate thinking processes. Cognitive functions, specifically executive functions, are essential mental skills that help people plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks. Executive functions act as a sort of traffic control system for the brain, coordinating basic abilities to achieve a specific goal. Impairments in this system are common across various psychiatric conditions. Observing how psychedelics temporarily alter these domains helps scientists gauge basic safety and the potential side effects of future clinical treatments. P. Yousefi, a researcher at Leiden University, and Morten P. Lietz, …

Vietnam Q1 growth slows as costlier Middle East energy tests 2026 target

Vietnam Q1 growth slows as costlier Middle East energy tests 2026 target

HANOI, April 4 : Vietnam’s economy slowed in the first quarter from the three months prior, data showed on Saturday, as heavy exposure to Middle Eastern oil imports boosted inflation, presenting a challenge in reaching an annual growth target, authorities said. Gross domestic product grew 7.83 per cent in the quarter from January to March over the corresponding period a year earlier, but below 8.46 per cent in the fourth quarter, the National Statistics Office said in a report. “The pressure from rising input costs and energy prices on inflation remains, posing challenges for economic governance,” the NSO added on Saturday. Consumer prices rose 4.65 per cent in March on the year, driven by a surge of 10.81 per cent in transport costs, it said, accelerating from a rise of 3.35 per cent in February.  This year’s growth target of at least 10 per cent is under pressure as the Southeast Asian economy imports more than 80 per cent of crude oil supplies from the Middle East, where the Iran war, now in its sixth …

WTI Dips After Big Crude Inventory Build, US Production Slows

WTI Dips After Big Crude Inventory Build, US Production Slows

Oil prices are down overnight but playing headline roulette with every word that comes out of any leaders’ (or non-leaders’) mouth as ceasefire chatter (now denied) has WTI riding a roller-coaster (but below $100 once again as we write). “Flows and actions matter more than words,” said Giovanni Staunovo, a commodity analyst at UBS Group AG. And while inventory data may not be the market-moving event in this new regime, it is useful to see signs of stockpiling or demand. DOE A sizable crude build (the sixth weekly rise in total US crude stocks in a row) was mirrored by the seventh weekly drawdown in gasoline stocks… Stockpiles at Cushing, Oklahoma, also rose for the sixth consecutive week. A 520,000-barre- build takes inventories at the storage hub to the highest level since July 2024. Stockpiles at Cushing are now firmly above 30 million barrels.  Stocks for all transport fuels in the US dropped this week with diesel falling 2 million barrels to the lowest level since mid-March. That fuel, alongside jet, is in the spotlight …

No equipment? This beginner-friendly workout slows things down to help you build strength without weights

No equipment? This beginner-friendly workout slows things down to help you build strength without weights

My car broke down recently, which meant I had no way of transporting weights to my weekly circuit training class, so I had to design a workout that used minimal equipment. The solution? Introducing isometric holds and tempo training. Isometric holds are exercises in which you hold a position rather than use movement. To put it technically, it’s an exercise that involves static muscle contractions without joint movement—such as planks and wall sits. They are often used in rehabilitation, pain management and stability training because they reduce joint impact while strengthening supporting muscles. The low-impact nature of isometric holds makes them ideal for beginners and seniors, or people recovering from injury. Article continues below You may like Alongside the isometric moves, I added tempo training, tempo simply referring to the speed at which you perform the movements. A slower tempo increases the time your muscles are under tension, which makes the exercise harder—building strength, muscle mass and body control without the need for heavy (or indeed any) weights. When you slow down an exercise move, …

Shipping slows to a crawl through Strait of Hormuz, threatening to snarl international trade

Shipping slows to a crawl through Strait of Hormuz, threatening to snarl international trade

To keep cargo flowing, President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Tuesday that the U.S. Navy would start “escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz” if necessary. But since then, traffic has remained at a near standstill, and it’s unclear if any tankers have taken the government up on its offer. “Naval escorts would help reduce the threat for the ships being protected,” said Jakob Larsen, chief safety and security officer at global shipping organization BIMCO. “That said, providing protection for all tankers operating in areas currently threatened by Iran is unrealistic as this would require a very high number of warships and other military assets.” More than 150 vessels, including oil and liquid natural gas tankers, have been forced to anchor or reroute, causing significant operational challenges, according to insurance broker Marsh Risk. Insurers are canceling coverage under war risk policies, causing a coverage gap that is spiking the cost of safe passage. Marsh said that rates have surged from 0.25% to 1.25% of the value of the ship as of …

EU energy-intensive industries cut emissions, but momentum slows

EU energy-intensive industries cut emissions, but momentum slows

Greenhouse gas emissions from Europe’s energy-intensive industries have dropped significantly over the past 20 years, yet the pace of progress is losing steam. A new briefing from the European Environment Agency (EEA) warns that without more ambitious structural changes and full enforcement of existing EU rules, further gains could prove difficult. The report examines how heavy industrial sectors have evolved in terms of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. It also looks ahead, mapping out realistic pathways to accelerate decarbonisation while strengthening Europe’s industrial base. A two-decade decline in emissions Since the early 2000s, emissions from Europe’s most energy-hungry manufacturing sectors have fallen sharply. Greenhouse gas emissions are down by roughly 42%. Air pollutants have also declined considerably, including nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), dioxins, and heavy metals such as nickel. These reductions span industries that form the backbone of European manufacturing: iron and steel, cement and lime, aluminium, pulp and paper, glass and ceramics, and chemicals. Together, these sectors account for more than a quarter of total EU industrial greenhouse gas emissions and …

India Boosts Saudi Oil Imports, Slows Russian Buying, Amid US Pressure

India Boosts Saudi Oil Imports, Slows Russian Buying, Amid US Pressure

Via The Cradle Saudi crude shipments to India are set to reach their highest level since 2020 this month, narrowing the gap with Russian supplies as New Delhi faces ongoing US pressure to reduce its purchases of Russian oil, according to data from Kpler cited by Bloomberg on Friday. Flows from Saudi Arabia are projected at between 1 million and 1.1 million barrels per day (bpd), Kpler lead research analyst Sumit Ritolia said, describing the volumes as the strongest since November 2019, bringing Saudi exports broadly in line with Russian deliveries. Saudi Aramco Kpler estimates Russian crude shipments to India at around 1.2 million bpd this month, which would keep Moscow as India’s largest supplier, though at levels well below the more than 2 million bpd seen at peak periods over the past three years. For March, Kpler forecasts Russian flows easing further to between 800,000 and 1 million bpd, noting that such a drop could allow Saudi Arabia to retake the top spot if Indian refiners keep replacing Russian crude with Saudi shipments. In early February, US President Donald …
