Ford’s 2,200-HP electric Mustang runs 6.87-sec quarter mile, smashes EV record

Ford Racing’s new Mustang Cobra Jet 2200 just became the quickest electric car on the planet, running a 6.87-second quarter mile at 221 mph at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte this weekend. The run demolished Ford’s own previous EV record — a 7.623-second pass set by the Cobra Jet 1800 in September 2024 — by a massive 0.75 seconds, a staggering improvement in a sport measured in thousandths. A clean-sheet design, not an evolution The Cobra Jet 2200 is not a tweaked version of the previous Cobra Jet 1800 that Ford used to chase records and wheelies. It’s a ground-up redesign that fundamentally rethinks how to deliver electric power down a drag strip. The headline number is 2,200 horsepower from two custom-built electric motors paired with inverters exceeding 98% efficiency. Each motor/inverter pair delivers roughly 1,200 horsepower. But the real story is that these motors weigh roughly half as much as the previous generation while producing an additional 600 horsepower — a massive leap in power density. Delivery Robot Allegedly Smashes Through Bus Stop Window, Keeps Driving Covered in Broken Glass

Delivery Robot Allegedly Smashes Through Bus Stop Window, Keeps Driving Covered in Broken Glass

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Delivery robots had already proved to be a controversial fixture in Chicago, but are now shaping up to be a smash-hit in all the wrong ways. Footage posted on the r/chicago subreddit — where posts complaining about delivery bots abound — shows one of these mobile lunch boxes showering the sidewalk with shattered glass after it allegedly rammed through the panel of a bus shelter, according to the uploader. The video doesn’t depict the robot actually hitting the glass, so it’s technically possible that something else was responsible for this horrific act of vandalism. But there it is at the scene of a crime, as guilty-seeming as a pet dog blankly observing the sight of a broken vase. For a few moments the robot jerks back and forth, as if it’s trying to shake off the glass it’s now covered in. Then it pulls off to the side of the footpath, where it’s promptly accosted by a man …

Anthony Gordon smashes Newcastle records after Eddie Howe’s tactical masterstroke

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has challenged his players to make more history by reaching the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time. Howe’s team face Qarabag at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in Baku on this evening in the first leg of their play-off tie with a place in the business end of the competition at stake and head coach Howe, who led the club to their first major domestic trophy in 70 years by clinching last season’s Carabao Cup, is determined to write a new chapter. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “It means everything to us. The opportunity for us to get to the last 16 of this competition would be an incredible achievement. “We’re trying to embrace it in that way and look at the excitement and the possibility rather than feel the burden of the pressure of the occasion. “We want to turn these moments into history and into moments people talk about for a long time. There’s a real excitement with this game.” Newcastle …

Consumer Credit Smashes All Estimates As Monthly Credit Card Debt Unexpectedly Surges By Most In 2 Years

Consumer Credit Smashes All Estimates As Monthly Credit Card Debt Unexpectedly Surges By Most In 2 Years

2025 closed with a surprising surge in consumer spending and retail sales, one which was unexpected since personal savings at the end of the year had just ground to a 3 year low… … which when coupled with stagnant earnings prompted the question just where did consumers get the money for December’s spending spree.  We now have the answer: at 3pm today, the Fed published the latest consumer credit data, and boy was it a doozy. After November’s tepid $4.2 billion increase in total consumer credit (which came in below estimates even after today’s revision to $4.7 billion), consensus was looking for a modest bounce to $8 billion, or well below the post-covid average. Instead, what the Fed reported was a stunner: consumer credit soared by a whopping $24.045 billion, the biggest monthly increase of 2025 by a wide margin (only Dec. 2024 was bigger going back all the way to 2023),.. … and not only was the number 3x higher than the median forecast, it came in above the highest economist forecast, in this …

Oscar nominations in full: Sinners smashes record with 16 nods alongside One Battle After Another and Hamnet

Oscar nominations in full: Sinners smashes record with 16 nods alongside One Battle After Another and Hamnet

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has become the most nominated film in Academy Awards history after receiving a staggering 16 nods – including in almost every major category. The hugely acclaimed vampire movie – which was also a major box office hit – is one of 10 films which will compete for the best picture trophy at the ceremony in March, while Coogler is up for best director, and three of its stars (Michael B Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo) are all in the running across the various acting categories. As expected, other films that performed well included Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet – which scored 13 and eight nominations respectively. Those two films are arguably still the frontrunners to pick up the top prize, although the sheer number of nominations for Sinners suggests that it could pose a major challenge as well. Elsewhere, Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value and Frankenstein enjoyed plenty of success – gaining nine nominations each – while F1 was something of a surprise entry in the …
