Russia Is Single-Handedly Standing Against The West: Putin

“It was they who carried out the coup d’etat in Ukraine, which forced us to take the people of Crimea under protection. When they started the war, they started bombing Donetsk using warplanes” – Putin in a fresh address to Russian service members came out swinging, giving a familiar lesson in recent history. And quite provocatively, he emphasized that Russia is now practically fighting against the entirety of the collective West in the Ukraine conflict in the Friday remarks. “Russia is standing against the so-called Collective West single-handedly,” Putin said, state media cited, and he noted that the ‘special military operation’ he ordered to stave off NATO encroachment is revealing itself to be “exceedingly high-tech.“ via AP “The NATO nations are all, without exception, ramping up efforts to do all they can to orchestrate actions against Russia,” he added, sate media continued. He stressed that Moscow did not initiate the Ukraine conflict, but that the Western allies and their hegemonic expansion and meddling did. He perhaps for the first time acknowledged some pain inflicted on Russia …

Doing these three standing exercises daily can improve your hip stability and balance, according to a personal trainer

Doing these three standing exercises daily can improve your hip stability and balance, according to a personal trainer

Hip stability and strength are crucial for a lot of everyday movements, including walking, running, climbing stairs, and maintaining overall equilibrium. If the muscles surrounding the hips are weak and deconditioned, it can make daily tasks harder, affect your balance, and increase your risk of serious falls or injury. As a personal trainer who works with a lot of clients who are aged over 60, I often recommend standing hip exercises. Latest Videos From Physical therapist, mobility trainer and work-life balance coach Dr Drea Osborne, DPT, agrees that these can be beneficial: “Standing hip exercises are helpful to improve strength, balance and motor control.” My three exercises of choice to address hip stability and lower body strength are: standing hip abduction, standing hip adduction and standing glute kickbacks. You may like Depending on your current fitness level, these exercises can be done daily to better condition these important muscle groups. They’re appropriate for total beginners and can be progressed easily as you get stronger. “There are some situations where these exercises are not appropriate,” says …

The One Thing Standing Between Most People And Happiness Is Surprisingly Personal

The One Thing Standing Between Most People And Happiness Is Surprisingly Personal

One of the first things we’re taught as little kids is to use our words. And, once we start talking, it’s a lifelong lesson in how to be polite and treat other people the way that we’d want to be treated.  The way we address and speak to others is a huge part of maturing into adulthood, and it is constantly reinforced to speak to others with kindness. Yet, even with all this kindness in words being shared, finding happiness isn’t easy.  Anyone who truly embraces being happy eventually has to overcome a surprisingly personal obstacle: They have to get over themselves Monkey Business Images via Shutterstock That sounds like a joke, but seriously, take a moment to consider how we talk to ourselves. Research has found that hearing your own voice activates memory and self-reflection areas in the brain. The same areas are not activated when others speak positively to you. This helps make positive self-talk a useful tool to help you let go of negative thought patterns while better regulating your emotions. Happiness …

The Herman Miller Coyl Standing Desk Is Built Just for Gamers

The Herman Miller Coyl Standing Desk Is Built Just for Gamers

“Coils by nature solve a problem, which is how do you keep a space clean and tidy, that has a variable length between two things,” says Steven Harton, senior product manager at Herman Miller. He says the design choice was inspired by the coiled cables on vintage tech like telephone handsets and early mechanical keyboards. The result is fun and orderly. Finally, there’s the rotary dial. This is the height adjustment mechanism on the Coyl desk. Rather than using traditional paddles or levers to make the desk go up or down, Herman Miller employs a dial that feels like something you’d find on an old-school stereo—or a really nice gaming mouse. It lets you fine-tune the desk’s height to a 10th of an inch. (A display shows the table’s exact height.) That level of detail is an ode to the kind of precision gamers are fond of, digging into settings to maximize performance. Twist the knob to adjust the height of the desk. Cannes Crowd Embrace ‘Fjord’ With Raucous Standing Ovation

Cannes Crowd Embrace ‘Fjord’ With Raucous Standing Ovation

Fjord, the seventh feature from Romanian auteur Cristian Mungiu to debut at the Cannes Film Festival, may just have broken open the Palme d’Or race. Throughout the gripping family drama, starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as evangelical religious figures and parents of five who get caught in a nightmare with Norwegian Child Services, the rapt audience in the Grand Théâtre Lumière barely made a sound. (Although, during the press screening two hours earlier, journalists could be heard gasping and chuckling in disbelief as each new roll of bureaucratic tape threatened to bury the couple.)  Then, as the last frame rolled, the crowd exploded in applause and rose to their feet for a 10 minute standing ovation, the most enthusiastic reception any competition film has received so far this Cannes. Together with director and cast, the gala audience included Sharon Stone, Carla Bruni, Cannes jury member Demi Moore, Jordan Firstman (fresh of the $17 million sale of his debut feature Club Kid to A24) and Stellan Skarsgard, there to cheer on Reinsve, who’d played his …

Protect your spine and build real-world stability with this 15-minute standing abs workout

Protect your spine and build real-world stability with this 15-minute standing abs workout

You might not notice it, but you twist (and resist twisting) your body all the time in everyday life. When you drive and reach behind you (in my case, to pass snacks to my kids in the back), carry groceries or change direction while walking, you are performing spinal rotation. This movement helps to protect your spine and keep your muscles flexible and resilient, reducing stiffness often linked to back pain. Adding intentional and controlled twisting into your fitness routine through rotational and anti-rotational exercises is a fantastic way to strengthen your core and protect your spine for the long term. Latest Videos From You may like In the workout below, the woodchop squat trains your core to generate power through rotation, while the dumbbell press-out works the opposite way—teaching your body to resist movement (anti-rotation) and remain as stable as possible. Master both movement patterns and you won’t just build strength, you’ll boost stability, balance and resilience in your core. Rotation and anti-rotational exercises also target the deep core—often overlooked abdominal muscles that support …

Cannes Film Festival: Why Are There Standing Ovations And Why People Clap For So Long?

Cannes Film Festival: Why Are There Standing Ovations And Why People Clap For So Long?

According to The Guardian, the applause following Pillion’s screening at last year’s Cannes Film Festival “lasted several minutes, with the inevitable awkwardness of seeming dutiful”. The Alexander Skarsgård film is the norm, not the exception. In 2024, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis reportedly got seven callous-inducing minutes of standing ovation. Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth managed to elicit a record-breaking 22 mins in 2006. And Joachim Trier’s 2025 follow-up to The Worst Person In The World rivalled that, with the ovation for his latest film clocking in at almost 20 minutes. GQ has said in the past that, when it comes to applause at Cannes, “anything five minutes or less is a tepid – or worse – appraisal”. But how did this palm prison get built, and what is its purpose? Alexander Skarsgard in Cannes 2025 Cannes’ standing ovations are part of an exhausting-sounding hierarchy According to The Atlantic (who, like The Guardian, call the custom “awkward”), clapping at Cannes is part of the spectacle. At the French festival in particular, the length and enthusiasm of …

Politics Home | Labour Ruling Body Approves Andy Burnham Standing For Selection In Makerfield By-Election

1 min read3 hr Andy Burnham has received approval from Labour’s ruling body to run for selection in the Makerfield parliamentary by-election, bringing the Greater Manchester mayor one step closer to being able to run in a leadership contest to replace Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The National Executive Committee (NEC) has announced it is allowing Burnham to run for selection in the Makerfield by-election, potentially giving him a route back to Parliament. The by-election will reportedly take place on 18 June. If he wins the by-election and returns as an MP, this would make him eligible to launch a leadership challenge against Starmer. The current Labour MP for Makerfield, Josh Simons, announced on Thursday that he was stepping down to make way for Burnham. However, the Manchester mayor will still have to win the selection to stand in the seat, and then win the by-election itself in an area where Reform UK has been polling strongly and performed well in last week’s local elections. The NEC had previously blocked Burnham from standing in the Gorton & Denton by-election earlier …

Louis C.K. Gets Standing Ovation at Netflix Comedy Festival

Louis C.K. Gets Standing Ovation at Netflix Comedy Festival

In 2017, Louis C.K. was largely exiled from comedy after five women accused him of sexual misconduct at the height of the #MeToo movement. Cut to 2026, and he headlined a show at the Hollywood Bowl as part of the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival. C.K. took the stage in L.A. on Tuesday night, the show serving as the final stop of the worldwide “Ridiculous” tour he’s been on for the last year. The iconic venue was roughly 75 percent full, mostly of male fans in their 20s and 30s, who came to life when the comedian started his set after four opening acts. He never addressed the misconduct allegations — the women alleged that he masturbated in front of them or on the phone with them as C.K. later admitted to the behavior, saying he believed at the time it had been appropriate because he had asked first — and returned to his regular raunchy material. The hour of jokes centered heavily around sex, with bits on penises, vaginas, STDs and Barely Legal magazine. The …
