Celebrity stylists share their predictions for Met Gala’s most ambiguous theme yet

Does it mean that Lady Gaga will arrive on the red carpet wearing a giant picture frame? Or will stylists interpret the line in the press release that alludes to the “centrality of the dressed body” and give us dozens of naked dresses? The dress code for this year’s event – taking place May 4 – is inspired by “Costume Art,” the name of the Costume Institute’s Spring exhibition that explores depictions of the dressed body through a series of thematic body types: “the naked body,” “classic body,” “pregnant body” and “ageing body.” Guests are encouraged …

Influencers are paying stylists top dollar for ‘tragic’ Coachella outfits

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Several social media influencers have been sharing their disappointment over paying thousands of dollars for a stylist to create their Coachella outfits — only to end up with a box full of mismatched, ill-fitting clothing. Montse Lewin, a 28-year-old content creator from Los Angeles, shared a recent video on TikTok about her experience hiring a stylist she found on social media to build her music festival look. Since its inception in 1999, Coachella has evolved into a haven for content creators, with its signature boho-chic aesthetic shaping festival fashion trends worldwide. Ahead of attending the first weekend of Coachella, Lewis filled out a form about her clothing preferences and sent a Pinterest board to the stylist for inspiration. When her outfits arrived in the …

Top Hollywood Power Stylists in 2026

Top Hollywood Power Stylists in 2026

Behind every newly minted star — Heated Rivalry‘s Connor Storrie, One Battle After Another‘s Chase Infiniti and Sentimental Value‘s Renate Reinsve number among 2026’s biggest Hollywood breakouts — there is always a stylist working overtime to ensure every Choo and Cartier diamond aligns with what’s now and what’s next. Stylists wield as much power in Hollywood as they do double-sided tape, especially when it comes to marketing a film or TV show even before it hits theaters and streamers. Consider Timothée Chalamet’s “hardcore orange” curated by his stylist, Taylor McNeill, for the Marty Supreme premieres (A24’s highest-grossing worldwide release ever); Margot Robbie’s Cathy-worthy corsets for the Wuthering Heights press juggernaut as styled by Andrew Mukamal (the same mastermind behind Robbie’s Barbiecore for the $1.44 billion-grossing film); or Paul Anthony Kelly’s nod to JFK Jr.’s iconic ’90s style, which his stylist Warren Alfie Baker revisited to promote FX’s Love Story. And now, The Devil Wears Prada 2 fans wait with bated breath — or “girded loins,” as Stanley Tucci’s Nigel would say — to see what …

Could Hollywood Move Away From Stylists?

Could Hollywood Move Away From Stylists?

Over the weekend, I also spoke with Odessa A’zion about her Oscar weekend looks. A breakout star this season with her turns in Marty Supreme and I Love LA, A’zion also styles herself. The current setup of the stylist ecosystem, in which stylists like Goldberg or Law Roach nowadays do more than merely pick an outfit, but serve as intermediaries, power brokers, and mediators with brands and designers, is a result of the corporatization of fashion over the course of the past three decades, as conglomerates like LVMH and Kering absorbed most luxury labels. “The thing that’s changed more than anything is the way brands function with VIP [talent] and stylists,” Kate Young, one of Hollywood’s OG power stylists, told me last month. “It has changed dramatically post-COVID, and I think it’s really changing right now too, with all the new regimes. Every house with a new designer is getting a new VIP team, which means they’re getting a new strategy…. Now, so much is on contract and predetermined. People are really laser-focused on their …

The Truth About Celebrity Styling with Kate Young

The Truth About Celebrity Styling with Kate Young

You’re an OG in the stylist game—what do you make of the landscape of styling right now? The thing that’s changed more than anything is the way brands function with VIP [talent] and stylists. It has changed dramatically post COVID, and I think it’s really changing right now too with all the new regimes. Every house with a new designer is getting a new VIP team, which means they’re getting a new strategy. Brands now have these hard and fast lists, but before you used to be able to kind of hustle someone at a brand to trust you based on a personal relationship. It was a personal decision of a VIP PR person with a stylist in that relationship to lend them something for a client or not. That is disappearing, I would say. Now, so much is on contract and predetermined. People are really laser focused on their celebrity placements in a way they didn’t used to be. I mean, there’s also the famous stylist thing that I feel like has been going …

Charli xcx is in Her Movie Star Era—Here’s How Her Stylist Chris Horan Bridged the Gap Between Brat, The Moment, and Wuthering Heights

Charli xcx is in Her Movie Star Era—Here’s How Her Stylist Chris Horan Bridged the Gap Between Brat, The Moment, and Wuthering Heights

I like that you don’t put her in any sort of movie or character cosplay, because she’s not actually in the movie, and it wouldn’t make sense for her. What are things you lean into, and what do you avoid? I mean, this is a controversial take, but I think as I’ve matured into this profession, I’ve realized that it really is, especially with Charli, about personal style. I think we, the collective we, have found what that truly is, so it’s always about staying true to that instead of a reinvention for every single project. Brat of course is a part of that vision, because people think of her in a specific way as that was when she really broke out, but she has elements that are definitely not Brat about her style too. Think of the Grammys on Sunday, it’s not Brat but it’s also a continuation of something, an evolution, but still very core her. We now have a pretty established look and feel, at least a feeling, when she wears something. …

Bad Bunny’s stylists on working with the superstar during his residency in Puerto Rico

Bad Bunny’s stylists on working with the superstar during his residency in Puerto Rico

In a series of fortunate events, I met the styling masterminds Storm Pablo and Marvin Douglas Linares at a Kwame Adusei dinner last year. (A year later, Pablo, Douglas Linares and Adusei are part of our 2025 Image Makers class.) As a stylist myself, I’d been noticing how over the last six years they’ve been transforming their client Bad Bunny into a fashion icon and trendsetter. There is intention in what Bad Bunny, whose full name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is telling you through his looks — from political statements to his never-ending pride in Puerto Rico. I was already a fan of Douglas Linares’ work with his jewelry brand. We connected over our shared experiences, like selling L.A. Times newspapers door-to-door as one of our first jobs and most importantly being from El Salvador. I became familiar with Pablo because of his work with Bad Bunny and his brand CNTRA, which is an extension of his personal style and ‘90s pop culture references I relate to. I’m not surprised at how everything has …
