Corning Shares Erupt On Nvidia Deal To Supercharge Fiber Optics Output By 10x

U.S.-based glass company Corning soared in premarket trading in New York after announcing a new mega deal with Nvidia to expand manufacturing capacity for fiber optic production used in AI data centers. “Corning will increase its U.S.-based optical connectivity manufacturing capacity by 10x and expand its U.S. fiber production capacity by more than 50% to meet the accelerating demand driven by AI factory buildouts,” Nvidia wrote in a press release.  The expansion includes three new manufacturing plants in North Carolina and Texas and is expected to create more than 3,000 high-paying U.S. jobs. In a filing, Corning disclosed that Nvidia is making a $500 million equity-linked investment. Under the deal, Corning issued Nvidia two warrants: Traditional warrant: Nvidia can buy up to 15 million Corning shares at $180 per share. Pre-funded warrant: Nvidia can buy up to 3 million Corning shares at a nominal exercise price of $0.0001 per share. Both warrants are exercisable immediately and expire within three years, unless earlier triggered by the termination of the partnership agreement or a major M&A transaction. …

Race To Refill U.S. Weapons Stockpiles Will Supercharge War Economy

Race To Refill U.S. Weapons Stockpiles Will Supercharge War Economy

The U.S. military’s 55-day war with Iran has alarmingly drawn down several categories of high-end air-delivered munitions, forcing the Department of War to draw from critical stockpiles in Asia and Europe. The drawdown of these weapons only suggests a possible readiness problem and helps explain why President Trump’s war economy is set to accelerate, with expected increases in munitions production.  The New York Times has released a report that says since the US-Iran conflict began in late February, the US military has burned through roughly 1,100 JASSM-ER long-range stealth cruise missiles, more than 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles, over 1,200 Patriot interceptors, and more than 1,000 Precision Strike and ATACMS missiles. “The Iran war has significantly drained much of the U.S. military’s global supply of munitions, and forced the Pentagon to rush bombs, missiles and other hardware to the Middle East from commands in Asia and Europe,” the outlet said, citing internal Defense Department estimates and congressional officials. The report continued, “The drawdowns have left these regional commands less ready to confront potential adversaries like Russia …

£36m DAWN supercomputer upgrade to supercharge UK AI

£36m DAWN supercomputer upgrade to supercharge UK AI

British science is gearing up for a major leap forward after the government confirmed a £36m investment to dramatically expand the power of one of the country’s most important computing hubs. The funding will increase capacity at the University of Cambridge’s AI facilities by six times, strengthening the UK’s ability to develop next-generation artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies. At the centre of this expansion is the DAWN supercomputer, a system that has already become a cornerstone of national AI research. The upgrade is expected to come online as early as spring 2026, unlocking new possibilities for researchers, start-ups, and public-sector innovators alike. Professor Sir John Aston, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, University of Cambridge, explained: “This investment marks an important milestone for the UK’s AI Research Resource, expanding the power of Cambridge’s DAWN supercomputer and strengthening our national computing ecosystem. “It will give researchers, clinicians and innovators the tools they need to drive breakthroughs that improve public services. “The University of Cambridge is proud to work with industry leaders such as Dell to ensure world-class computing is available to …

9 Ways to Supercharge Your Workouts in 2026, According to Experts

9 Ways to Supercharge Your Workouts in 2026, According to Experts

In the hyper-quantified theater we call modern fitness, we’ve become so obsessed with execution and documenting our progress that sometimes we forget that moving around can be fun. As we enter another new year governed by Strava tallies and Apple rings, it’s best to remember that enjoying a work out is the best way to stay consistent in your exercise goals. With that in mind, we’ve gathered some expert-vetted tips on how to make fitness more fulfilling in 2026. 1. Embrace your recovery Your body is a temple and deserves some R&R. If you have access to a sauna, use it liberally. Start allocating time into your schedule for mindfulness, yoga, deep stretching and of course, prioritize the hell out of your sleep. “Recovery protects the emotional side of fitness. A well-rested mind is more positive, more resilient, and more connected to the pleasure of moving,” says personal trainer Federica Gianni. “Taking breaks reduces the sense of pressure or burnout, which means people can maintain enthusiasm over the long term. “This approach dramatically changes the …

Device smaller than a grain of dust looks to supercharge quantum computers

Device smaller than a grain of dust looks to supercharge quantum computers

A device smaller than a grain of dust may help unlock the kind of quantum computers people have only dreamed about. Built on a standard microchip and almost 100 times thinner than a human hair, this new component gives scientists precise control over laser light using a fraction of the power older tools need. The work comes from a team led by Jake Freedman, an incoming PhD student in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, professor Matt Eichenfield, the Karl Gustafson Endowed Chair in Quantum Engineering, and collaborators at Sandia National Laboratories, including co-senior author Nils Otterstrom. Together, they designed an optical phase modulator that is not just tiny, but practical to manufacture at scale. Instead of building a delicate, custom device in a specialized lab, they used the same industrial process that makes chips for laptops, phones, cars and even home appliances. That choice turns an advanced research idea into something that could one day be produced by the millions. Design of the CMOS-fabricated, resonantly enhanced acousto-optic modulator. Supercharge Your New Year’s Resolutions

Supercharge Your New Year’s Resolutions

The new year is a beautiful time to set intentions and consider meaningful change. Yet many resolutions focus only on behaviors—what we plan to do differently—without addressing the deeper psychological forces that determine whether change lasts. This year, instead of concentrating solely on routines or restrictions, let’s look beneath the surface and commit to change that reshapes how we see ourselves. Lasting change is not just about effort or willpower. It is about alignment between our actions, beliefs, and sense of identity. How Change Actually Happens Practical strategies such as meal prepping, speaking up at work, or waking up earlier can certainly improve daily functioning. But their psychological power lies in what they communicate internally. Over time, repeated behaviors don’t just change outcomes—they shape beliefs about our competence and self-worth. Psychological research consistently shows that behavior and belief influence one another in a reciprocal loop. Self-perception theory, first articulated by Bem (1972), suggests that people often infer their beliefs and identities by observing their own behavior. That is, we learn who we are by noticing …

These dinner-plate sized computer chips are set to supercharge the next leap forward in AI

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to make today’s artificial intelligence (AI) systems work at the scale required to keep advancing. They require enormous amounts of memory to ensure all their processing chips can quickly share all the data they generate in order to work as a unit. The chips that have mostly been powering the deep-learning boom for the past decade are called graphics processing units (GPUs). They were originally designed for gaming, not for AI models where each step in their thinking process must take place in well under a millisecond. Each chip contains only a modest amount of memory, so the large language models (LLMs) that underpin our AI systems must be partitioned across many GPUs connected by high-speed networks. LLMs work by training an AI on huge amounts of text, and every part of them involves moving data between chips – a process that is not only slow and energy-intensive but also requires ever more chips as models get bigger. For instance, OpenAI used some 200,000 GPUs to create its latest model, GPT-5, …
