The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Collaboration Is Here for Real

Swatch has officially revealed its collaboration with luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet, one that has been breaking Instagram with countless AI-generated fake images since the linkup was confirmed on May 8. As suspected, it’s not a wristwatch, but a series of pocket watches based on AP’s classic Royal Oak design. The news is a surprise as it comes ahead of May 16, the date Swatch initially teased in its social media posts. The colorful pocket watches are called the Royal Pop Collection, and are billed by the brand as “a groundbreaking union of Audemars Piguet’s iconic Royal Oak and Swatch’s POP watches from the 1980s.” The Royal Pop watches marry design hallmarks from Audemars Piguet’s iconic Royal Oak collection, launched in 1972, as well as the Swatch POP watches of the 1980s. In a statement, Swatch said that “this collection will change the way we wear watches. The watches in the AP x Swatch collaboration break free from the wrist … allowing you to wear the watch in unexpected, playful, and dynamic ways.” Courtesy of …

Swatch Is Officially Collaborating With Audemars Piguet

There is nothing quite like a Swatch tease. In the watch world, it has always been the joker in the school playground who aces their exams. So last weekend, when I saw a screenshot of a newspaper ad, a familiar Swatch-induced sensation came over me; the powers that be in Biel/Bienne were up to MoonSwatch-levels of no good again. A few cryptic social media posts soon followed (wait, is that a lanyard?), quickly drawing assumptions online that it would be another Swatch brand but which one? Longines? Breguet? Maybe this was the moment to shine for Jaques Droz? Or, was the Swatch x Seamaster about to come to fruition? Then late on Tuesday night, the watch world gasped. A no-caption-needed post on Swatch’s official Instagram with a short video displaying the words “Royal” and “Pop” sent people spiralling. A Swatch x Audemars Piguet collab? Surely not? Cue wild scenes of speculation and a feedful of dodgy AI-generated Royal Oaks. And now that Swatch has officially confirmed that whatever it is dropping on May 16 will …

The pieces are the latest in Swatch’s larger Art Journey series, which launched in 2023. As part of the series, the company has partnered with the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Jean-Michel Basquiat estate, the Rene Magritte estate, and others. Swatch has also partnered with the Guggenheim since the 1990s. Related Articles “This collaboration was inspired by a long-standing shared belief between Swatch and the Guggenheim: art should be accessible, lived with, and experienced beyond museum walls,” Swatch’s CEO Vivian Stauffer told WWD via email. “By making iconic artworks wearable and playful, Swatch removes the distance that can sometimes exist between people and cultural …
