Just as surely as the Met Gala 2026 is fashion’s biggest night, Taylor Swift is one of the most talked-about people on the planet. And when the two intersect, there’s plenty to discuss. Swift first attended the legendary gala in 2008, then an 18-year-old songstress with a single self-titled country album under her belt. Earlier that year, she’d had her first appearance in the top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100 list, when her single “Teardrops on My Guitar” reached No. 13. Maren Wade says in the trademark infringement lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in California that the glittery branding of Swift’s 2025 album comes too close to the aesthetic of her own “Confessions of a Showgirl.” That was the name of a column she wrote on backstage Sin City life in the Las Vegas Weekly starting in 2014, which she turned into a live show that she took on a national tour. “Both share the same structure, the same dominant phrase, and the same overall commercial impression,” the lawsuit says. “Both are used in overlapping markets and are directed at the same consumers.” Wade is described as a “singer, songwriter, comedian, and writer” in the lawsuit filed under her legal name, Maren Flagg, and her “Showgirl” brand encompasses performances, writing and digital media. “The Life of a Showgirl,” the stadium-packing superstar’s 12th studio album, released in October, sold 4 million copies in its first week. Even though she wasn’t physically at the Golden Globes 2026 ceremony on Sunday, Taylor Swift’s presence was certainly felt. Host Nikki Glaser entered the stage to Swift’s tracks three times (“Style” opened the show, “Shake It Off” played a bit past the midpoint, and “The Fate of Ophelia” was featured later), and first-time Golden Globe winner Timothée Chalamet wore the same style of necklace that Swift has been spotted wearing. Chalamet donned a delicate Panthère de Cartier necklace, crafted from 18k white gold, diamonds and emerald, its gleam unmissable against his dark Chrome Hearts ensemble. Chalamet has had a long relationship with Cartier and is officially considered a “friend of the house.” The necklace is the very same style that Swift wore back in August (though hers was crafted in yellow gold), when she appeared on now fiancé Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, to announce her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
