‘In Switzerland, it’s possible to sledge between two railway stations’: readers’ favourite family adventures in Europe | Family holidays

Take the toboggan to the train, Switzerland Travelling by rail in Europe gives you plenty of opportunity for ad-hoc adventure. We were returning from a ski trip in Italy and took the Bernina Express part of the way. We’d heard that if you disembark at Bergün, leave your luggage at the station and take the train back one stop to Preda village it’s possible to sledge between the two stations. So there we found ourselves renting traditional wooden sledges from Preda and walking the short distance to the start of the tobogganing run. What we thought might be a gentle run into town turned into a fast and fun-filled couple of hours as we hurtled down the tree-lined course. At times it felt like we were in the game Mario Kart and at one point a children’s birthday party overtook us, the birthday girl’s sledge trailing balloons. About 5 miles later we arrived back in Bergün, before continuing our train journey onwards.Layla Astley Profile Readers’ tips: send a tip for a chance to win a …

Want to go skiing in Switzerland without breaking the bank? Here’s where to go … | Switzerland holidays

I’m standing at 3,330 metres on a tall metal platform with a heavy harness strapped to my back, gazing in awe at the snow-covered Matterhorn, Mont Blanc and the Dents du Midi ridge. It’s a gorgeous distraction while I wait to be clipped in and launched down the valley at 120 kilometres an hour. This is the Mont Fort zip line, the highest in the world. I sit with my legs dangling over the precipice, then with a stomach-churning clunk the mechanism releases and I speed through the air over tiny figures skiing below. It’s exhilarating and over too soon. I’m grinning ear to ear, my lungs full of high mountain air. I’m in Verbier, one of Switzerland’s most famous ski resorts. With access to 410km of pristine piste, excellent alpine food and a legendary après-ski culture, what’s not to like? Well, for many, the price. Verbier has long been favoured by A-listers and royalty, with eye-watering prices to match. Happily, there is a way to enjoy the same slopes, with much less of a …

U.S. and Iran wrap up ‘most intense’ nuclear talks with no deal — more negotiations ahead

Iranian negotiating delegation departs for the site of the talks with U.S., in Geneva, Switzerland, Feb. 26, 2026. Iranian Foreign Ministry | WANA | Via Reuters The latest round of U.S.-Iran talks did not lead to a breakthrough, with both sides agreeing to extend negotiations, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said, describing the discussions as the “most intense so far.” “Further progress has been made in our diplomatic engagement with the United States,” said Araghchi, adding that both sides planned to engage in a more “detailed” manner on critical issues including termination of U.S. sanctions on Iran and “nuclear-related steps.” The two sides made “significant progress” in the high-stakes talks in Geneva, Switzerland, and agreed to meet next week to discuss technical details in Vienna, according to Oman’s foreign minister Badr Al Busaidi, the mediator of the talks. Al-Busaidi is headed to Washington to meet with Vice President JD Vance and other U.S. officials on Friday, according to MS Now. Vance has previously downplayed the possibility of the U.S. entering into a years-long war …

Analysis-US and Iran Slide Towards Conflict as Military Buildup Eclipses Talks

By Samia Nakhoul, Parisa Hafezi and John Irish DUBAI, Feb 20 (Reuters) – Iran and the United States are sliding rapidly towards military conflict as hopes fade for a diplomatic solution to their standoff over Tehran’s nuclear programme, officials on both sides and diplomats across the Gulf and Europe say. Iran’s Gulf neighbours and its enemy Israel now consider a conflict to be more likely than a settlement, these sources say, with Washington building up one of its biggest military deployments in the region since the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Israel’s government believes Tehran and Washington are at an impasse and is making preparations for possible joint military action with the United States, though no decision has been made yet on whether to carry ‌out such an operation, said a source familiar with the planning. It ‌would be the second time the U.S. and Israel have attacked Iran in less than a year, following U.S. and Israeli airstrikes against military and nuclear facilities last June. Regional officials say oil-producing Gulf countries are preparing for …

Team GB will go for gold in men’s curling after thrilling victory over Switzerland

Team GB will go for gold in men’s curling after thrilling victory over Switzerland

Switzerland have the hammer in this fourth end. Team GB now have three stones on the centre line, with two of those being in the house, after a clever shot from Lammie. However Michel is able to blast two of those out but one GB stone is left in the house on that centre line. As we hit the halfway mark of this end, Switzerland look to be on top and GB have some work to do not to drop multiple points. But Hardie responds with a terrific shot, deploying a lovely hit and roll, managing to knock two Swiss stones out of the house whilst retaining that stone in the house. That GB stone is immediately knocked out though by Swiss skip Schwaller. With five stones left in the end, there are no stones in the house for either team but Switzerland will have the final stone. That is a big error from Switzerland as Schwaller looked to clip one stone off another to potentially put two Swiss stones in the house but it …

Over 20 Countries Will Attend Trump’s Board of Peace Meeting on Thursday, White House Says

WASHINGTON, Feb 18 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump will host a Board of Peace meeting on Thursday in Washington, where he will announce that member states have pledged more than $5 billion for reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in Gaza, the White House ‌said. White House press secretary Karoline ‌Leavitt told reporters on Wednesday that more than 20 countries would participate in the meeting, adding that member states had committed to providing thousands of personnel for an international stabilization force for Gaza. Asked about the Vatican’s decision not to participate in the initiative, Leavitt called the move “deeply unfortunate.” Leavitt said Trump would chair the first part of Thursday’s meeting before departing Washington for a visit to Georgia. Trump signed documents in Davos, Switzerland, on January 23 establishing the Board of Peace. The board’s creation was endorsed by a United Nations Security Council resolution as part of Trump’s Gaza plan. “The president has a very bold and ambitious plan and vision to rebuild and reconstruct Gaza, which is well under way because of the Board …
