Mediocre 30Y Auction Has First Tail Since November

Mediocre 30Y Auction Has First Tail Since November

After a solid 3Y auction and a tepid 10Y auction earlier this week, moments ago the Treasury concluded the final coupon auction of the week, when it sold $22 billion in a 30 year reopening in what was another average auction. The sale stopped at a high yield of 4.876%, virtually unchanged from 4.871% a month ago and the highest since last July. It also tailed the When Issued 4.871% by 0.5bps, the first tail since November. The bid to cover was 2.385, down from 2.452 in March and the lowest since December ’25.  The internals were in line: Indirects were awarded 64.14%, up from 63.4% in March but below the six-auction average of 66.8%. And with Directs down to 24.23% from 27.23% (above the recent average of 22.9%), dealers were left holding 11.6%, the most since January. Overall, this was a mediocre 30Y auction, with average stats resulting in the first tail for the tenor since last November, yet with markets still only focused on Iran there was virtually no little market reaction. Dreadful 10Y Auction Sees Biggest Tail Since 2024, Foreign Demand Slides

Dreadful 10Y Auction Sees Biggest Tail Since 2024, Foreign Demand Slides

After yesterday’s mediocre 3Y auction (which saw a drop in foreign demand offset by record direct bid), moments ago the Treasury concluded the sale of 10Y benchmark paper, and despite a cheerful preview by the Bloomberg MLIV team (which appears to be wrong every time it tries to handicap the outcome), today’s auction was absolutely dreadful. Starting at the top, the high yield of 4.177% was almost unchanged from last month’s 4.173% and the 4.175% the month before. More importantly, it tailed the When Issued 4.163% by 1.4bps, the biggest tail since August 2024. The bid to cover dropped to 2.388, the lowest since August 2025. It would have been even worse had the Fed’s SOMA not tendered for $11.9BN of the issue (up from $11.35BN in January). The internals were also ugly, as Indirects slumped to just 64.5%, the lowest since August 2025 (and clearly well below the six month average of 70.2%). And with Directs also sliding to 22.1% from 24.5% in January (a far cray from yesterday’s record Directs), Dealers were left …

New Footage Appears To Show Alex Pretti Spit At ICE, Break SUV Tail Light In Prior Minneapolis Confrontation

New Footage Appears To Show Alex Pretti Spit At ICE, Break SUV Tail Light In Prior Minneapolis Confrontation

The killing of ICU nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis last Saturday sparked national outrage – particularly when it comes to the 2nd Amendment and his right to carry while protesting. The incident resulted in two federal agents involved in the shooting being placed on leave, and the ouster of US border patrol chief Gregory Bovino as the face of the Trump administration’s mass deportation drive. While the circumstances of his death are still under investigation – many believe this  gun went off after an agent took it off his body, spooking the shooter or shooters – he was known to federal authorities, and had suffered a broken rib during a violent confrontation with agents about a week before his death, CNN reported Tuesday. Now, new footage appears to show Pretti armed and spitting at ICE agents before he smashes the taillights of their black SUV during a wild confrontation roughly a week before his death.  Screenshot via The News Movement The video, verified by the BBC, captures what appears to be Pretti screaming at federal agents while they were driving away during a Jan. …

Snow fleas use their tail to jump around the ice

Snow fleas use their tail to jump around the ice

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Not eating yellow snow is obviously wise advice, but how about snow that looks like a poppy seed bagel? You should also avoid that too, because those “seeds” may actually be tiny critters commonly called snow fleas. As a video taken at the Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge in Massachusetts shows, these little black specks bounce across the snow. While technically called springtails, snow fleas (Hypogastruna nivicola) are a springtail species active during winter. Snow fleas are generally found in groups and their dark-colored bodies are easily noticed against white snow. These ancient insects have been around 410 million years—making them older than dinosaurs.  Springtails are found in habitats all over the world. According to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, they typically show up on top of snow because colder temperautres slow their speeds down “just enough for us to notice their chaotic parkour routine.” That hopping move is done with a forked tail called a furcula that launches the …
