Getting scolded by a director is nothing unusual in showbiz but for it to make the actor consider quitting acting? That’s a different story. In a recent interview, Singaporean actor Romeo Tan, who was joined by actress Carrie Wong, recalled the project in which he received the harshest criticism in his 16-year acting career. “I think it’s The Journey: Tumultuous Times,” said the 40-year-old, who played a villainous lawyer in the 2014 Mediacorp series. And you know it must have been bad when Wong, who was present that day, still remembers it vividly – even 11 years on. “Oh my god, I was there,” exclaimed the actress, who also had her breakout role as Tang Shui Mei in the series. On December 10, Calvin Choi, chairman of Hong Kong–based AMTD Group, attended a fashion show at the London Stock Exchange marking the secondary listing of AMTD’s media and luxury subsidiary, The Generation Essentials Group (TGE). TGE, which owns The Art Newspaper and the iconic French fashion magazine L’Officiel, had debuted on the New York Stock Exchange six months earlier with another catwalk party. The glitzy London event, where models dressed in Vivienne Westwood posed for photographers, marked another milestone in AMTD’s rapid expansion into cultural assets. SINGAPORE: Trial dates have been set for the defamation suits that Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam and Manpower Minister Tan See Leng filed against Bloomberg and one of its reporters, with hearings scheduled from Apr 7 to Apr 16, 2026, according to court records. The two ministers filed lawsuits on Jan 6, 2025, against Bloomberg and reporter Low De Wei over a Dec 12, 2024, article titled “Singapore Mansion Deals Are Increasingly Shrouded in Secrecy”, which focused on Good Class Bungalow (GCB) transactions in Singapore.  Mr Shanmugam and Dr Tan said the article, which mentioned both of them, was defamatory. They argued it falsely suggested they had taken advantage of a lack of transparency in property transactions to conduct their dealings in a non-transparent manner, and to hide their transactions from scrutiny, including over the possibility of money laundering. Correction orders under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) were also issued to several entities on Dec 23, 2024, including Bloomberg and other outlets that reproduced the article in whole or in part. …
