EufyMake E1 UV Printer Review (2026): Add 3D Texture to Mugs, Magnets, and More

EufyMake E1 UV Printer Review (2026): Add 3D Texture to Mugs, Magnets, and More

I’m mostly pleased with the EufyMake Studio software. If you aren’t already comfortable working in Photoshop or other image-editing software, you’ll want to spend a bit of time getting to know how layers and transparency work, as well as brushing up on dots per inch (dpi) and image types, assuming you’re going to print custom items. There’s a bit of trial and error involved in getting factors correct each time you change materials, but the presets for each are a good starting point. If you, like me, do have familiarity with editing software, you’ll find the interface intuitive. I haven’t run into any issues selecting and modifying multiple layers, adjusting opacity and print settings, or uploading my own imagery. Photograph: Brad Bourque If you’re not working from your own custom images, you can print straight from the shared content section of the app, which is divided into two sections: Projects and Designs. In the Projects tab, other E1 users upload photos of the items they’ve created, including custom keyboard keycaps, photo displays, keychains, and jewelry. …

‘Alive, fruity and with a soft texture’: the best supermarket frozen peas, tasted and rated | Vegetables

‘Alive, fruity and with a soft texture’: the best supermarket frozen peas, tasted and rated | Vegetables

The sweetness of a pea is more than just a desirable taste; it’s an indication of a pea picked at the perfect moment. As the sugars convert into starch, peas lose their sweetness rapidly after picking, leading to a less sweet, more fibrous and lower-quality product. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. That’s why high-quality peas are picked, blanched and frozen as quickly as possible, usually all within two and a half hours. That said, other factors such as soil, seed quality, transportation and a stable freezer temperature all affect a frozen pea’s quality. All the peas scored well for taste, but their texture was rather more varied. To measure the sweetness of the peas, I used a Brix refractometer, a tool designed for measuring the sugar content of fruit and veg. I awarded an extra point to peas with a Brix rating of 10 or more. I also scored them on cost, country of origin and organic status. The best supermarket …

How To Prevent Mushy Rhubarb: The ‘Cold-Soak’ Chef’s Trick For Better Texture

How To Prevent Mushy Rhubarb: The ‘Cold-Soak’ Chef’s Trick For Better Texture

Bakers, home cooks, and fans of tarted-up porridge, rejoice: rhubarb season is finally upon us. There’s a reason celebrity chefs like Nigella Lawson, Mary Berry, Jamie Oliver, and Gordon Ramsay are such fans of the tart, vibrant vegetable. As new Great British Bake-Off host Nigella explained, “there is nothing quite like a crumble made with the early, tender stuff”; her predecessor, Mary, simply dubbed it “delicious”. But that doesn’t mean it’s failsafe. All too often, I’ve begun stewing the purple stems with glossy purple perfection in mind, only to end up with flavourless browinsh-yellow mush. So, I tried a trick both Gordon and Jamie swear by to prevent the sog – and I’m never going back. Roasting rhubarb prevents it from going mushy Normally, I cook rhubarb on the hob (ideally with some butter, ginger, cornflour, and citrus juice). But this can be a delicate process: as Nigella notes, much longer than five minutes in the pan risks a watery mess. Jamie and Gordon have an answer, though. Both roast theirs in the oven – …

Programmable hydrogel ‘smart skin’ can hide images, shift texture, and morph shape

Programmable hydrogel ‘smart skin’ can hide images, shift texture, and morph shape

At first glance, it looks like a plain, slightly glossy sheet. Then it goes through a quick bath, the temperature shifts, and a famous face comes back from nowhere. In one demonstration, a film made from hydrogel, a water-rich material that feels a bit like soft contact lens plastic, suddenly brought the Mona Lisa into view. The image was not printed with ink. It was encoded into the material itself, and it stayed invisible until the right conditions flipped the switch. That trick is part of a broader effort at Penn State to make what the researchers call a programmable “smart synthetic skin,” a thin, shape-shifting material that can be tuned to change its appearance, texture, and mechanical behavior when exposed to outside triggers like heat, solvents, or physical stress. Hongtao Sun, an assistant professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Penn State and the project’s principal investigator, said the concept was inspired by cephalopods, including octopuses, which can control the look and feel of their skin to blend in or signal to each other. …

Why the electrical grid needs more software

Why the electrical grid needs more software

One of the nicest comments people have made about the electrical grid was … nothing. The grid works best when it fades into the background.  That low-profile status has changed in recent years as fires in California and freezes in Texas raised awareness of the electrical grid. But it was in 2025, when the electrical grid — and concerns about demand, supply, pricing, and the strain on natural resources — moved into the spotlight. And a new batch of startups have emerged with a software-as-a-solution pitch. Electricity rates are up 13% in this U.S. this year driven by an AI boom that has seeped into unlikely places, including repurposing supersonic jet engines for data center duty and working on beaming solar power down from space. And that pace of growth isn’t expected to slow; the amount of electricity data centers use is projected to nearly triple in the coming decade. That forecast has fueled consumer frustration around pricing and drawn the ire of environmental groups that have called for a nationwide moratorium on new projects. Utilities, …
