‘Most Masculine Men Wear Skirts’

‘Most Masculine Men Wear Skirts’

Dwayne Johnson is opening up about his decision to wear a skirt as part of his look for the 2026 Met Gala on Monday. The Moana actor made his debut at fashion‘s biggest night, wearing a custom all-black Thom Browne ensemble that featured a mohair tailcoat, white vest and a pleated skirt over trousers. He walked the carpet alongside his wife, Lauren Hashian, who was wearing a white halter-neck dress by the designer. When asked about his look by reporters, Johnson said it was in part inspired by his Polynesian culture, where “the most masculine men wear skirts.” “I feel great!” he replied. “First, [Thom Browne’s team] sent the illustrations over and [asked], ‘Hey, is DJ going to be cool with this pleated skirt?’ And I was like, ‘Look, in our culture, Polynesian culture, we rock lavalavas, we rock skirts.’ The most masculine men, not that I’m one of them, but the most masculine men wear lavalavas and skirts.” Dwayne Johnson at the 2026 Met Gala. Dwayne Johnson Made His Met Gala Debut in a Thom Browne Skirt

Dwayne Johnson Made His Met Gala Debut in a Thom Browne Skirt

Thirty years into his genre-defying career, there aren’t a whole lot of “firsts” left for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He’s main-evented WrestleMania six times; racked up nearly $14 billion dollars at the global box office; launched brands to hawk everything from skin care to tequila to signature sneakers; had his name bandied about in both Oscar races and presidential races. One thing he’s somehow never done before tonight, though? Climb the Met Gala steps. Thing is, while The Rock has never been short on smackdown-laying style (hitting the ring in silky Versace blouses in the ’90s and setting the template for jacked guys looking to dress well in the 2010s), he’s never quite been a capital-F Fashion guy. That changed last year when, while promoting his dramatic turn in A24’s The Smashing Machine, a surprisingly svelter Johnson began sporting custom looks from the likes of Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. “He’s got a big career pivot happening,” Ilaria Urbinati, Johnson’s longtime stylist, told GQ in September. “I want to make sure the clothes reflect this …

Stefon Diggs Test-Drives Thom Browne’s Surprise New Sneaker Collab

Stefon Diggs Test-Drives Thom Browne’s Surprise New Sneaker Collab

Speaking of accessories: When Thom Browne was developing his new running shoe with Asics, he started where he always does. “It needed to work perfectly with that gray suit,” Browne tells me. The resulting trainer marks the designer’s very first sneaker collaboration. “I never really wanted to do it,” Browne says, matter-of-fact as ever. (He famously prefers a polished black wingtip.) In the 25 years since Browne, 60, recast American menswear with a radically shrunken version of the classic salaryman suit, the relevance of the luxury-sneaker collab has oscillated wildly, rising and falling along with practically every other trend under the sun. But the Thom Browne look—with its extreme yet exacting proportions—has remained singular and striking. Browne likes to say that his gray suit never gets old—and, indeed, he’s regularly using runway shows and other public moments to remind everyone about his most influential design. “I always feel like I want to make sure that people see my collections are always evolving, but [also] that they’re always staying true to where they started,” Browne says. …

An Exclusive Backstage Look at Thom Browne’s Fall 2026 Collection

An Exclusive Backstage Look at Thom Browne’s Fall 2026 Collection

Thom Browne’s design sensibility might be sharp and spare, but his runway shows are lush, maximalist performances. Browne’s fall 2026 show at GQ Bowl in San Francisco was no exception. The collection revolved around the shrunken men’s suit, Browne’s original and most radical idea, and how it has evolved in the 25 years since its introduction into a full spectrum of fantastical—and in this case, wintry and woolen—tailoring. If you weren’t in the room, you can catch the whole livestream here. Behind the scenes, we were set up in the halls of the Legion of Honor documenting the looks and getting up close with the embroidery, bags, jewelry, and shoes—including a never-before-seen Thom Browne x Asics Sportstyle sneaker. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Vinnie Hacker, and DeAndre Hopkins Modeled Thom Browne on the GQ Bowl Runway

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Vinnie Hacker, and DeAndre Hopkins Modeled Thom Browne on the GQ Bowl Runway

Baltimore Raven DeAndre Hopkins made his way down the catwalk in a pleated skirt, continuing the tradition of Thom Browne outfitting football stars in boundary-pushing suiting. Also making their way through the Rodin Wing of the Legion of Honor was Minnesota Viking wide receiver Justin Jefferson, whose power parka was a wintery juxtaposition to the fiery backdrop that Thom Browne had set for the show, and former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Marcus Allen, who also rocked a parka over a pinstriped ensemble. Befitting the sport that inspired GQ Bowl, Browne showed off ripstop nylon blazers and wool overcoats lined with technical fabrics. The designer’s name and birth year (’65) made its way to the back of knits and Ivy-style blazers, further emphasizing the show’s connection to America’s favorite sport. The biggest surprise of the night came when Browne closed the show by having his models swap their winter-ready, ground-shaking boots for sneakers from the brand’s surprise collaboration with Asics: a designer take on the Gel-Kayano 14. It marks the first time in the label’s 25-year history …

Thom Browne Sent a Surprise Asics Collab Down the GQ Bowl Runway

Thom Browne Sent a Surprise Asics Collab Down the GQ Bowl Runway

Thom Browne is no stranger to sports. The American designer, who just sent his fall 2026 down the runway at our second-ever GQ Bowl, is also a lifelong athlete who’s outfitted major sports stars (LeBron and Messi come to mind) and has even staged fashion shows inspired by ice skating and surfing. The designer knows his way around classic American sportswear, the casual counterpart to the iconic shrunken suits that helped turn the brand into a sartorial standout. Since founding his namesake brand in 2001, Browne has yet to engage in a full-scale sneaker collaboration. Sure, the brand has offered its own sneakers before, but Browne has now allowed Asics into the world that he’s so carefully constructed for decades. The soon-to-be-released, Browne-ified Gel-Kayano 14 made its debut at the Bowl, a fresh switch-up from the usual oxfords and lace-up boots that typically grace the brand’s runway. Eagle-eyed viewers might have even caught an early glimpse of the sneakers on Teyana Taylor’s eldest daughter on the red, er, gray carpet ahead of the show. Marcus …

Thom Browne Fall 2026: See Every Look from the GQ Bowl Runway Show

Not so long ago, you might have been laughed at for suggesting that by 2026, pro football players would be clamoring to kit themselves out in high-fashion skirts. Sure, maybe when hell freezes over. Well, welcome to the second annual GQ Bowl, where Thom Browne staged his fall 2026 runway show with a vision of wintry fine tailoring set against a fiery backdrop at San Francisco’s Legion of Honor museum. GQ Bowl is a celebration of the warp speed collision between football and fashion that is reshaping both disciplines, and no American designer has influenced that phenomenon quite like Browne, who points to how star footballers like Odell Beckham, Jr. and JuJu Smith-Schuster have donned his signature pleated skirt in recent years. “It was difficult to put athletes in skirts at the beginning,” said Browne before the show. “Now they’re requesting them because they love it and they have the confidence to pull it off.” The GQ Bowl show drove Browne’s point home with catwalk cameos from future hall of fame wide receivers—and current tunnel-walk …

Teyana Taylor and Her Daughters Matched in Thom Browne at the GQ Bowl

Teyana Taylor and Her Daughters Matched in Thom Browne at the GQ Bowl

Teyana Taylor has had a big, busy 2026 so far. Last month, she accepted her first Golden Globe Award for her performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. Shortly thereafter, she made her Saturday Night Live debut—paying tribute to her Harlem roots in a sequined I <3 NY shirt—alongside the young, beloved indie band Geese. Last weekend, she presented at the Grammys (where she was also nominated). And, just now, she made an appearance at the second annual GQ Bowl, our fashion-meets-football runway extravaganza. This year’s GQ Bowl hosted the fall 2026 collection of American designer and CFDA chairman Thom Browne. The suiting savant styled many of the evening’s guests in the brand’s signatures, which include ultra-tailored suits, quadri-stripes, and the color gray. (So much is their commitment to the hue, even the step-and-repeat unfolded over a gray carpet.) GQ Bowl 2026: See Every Celebrity Look from the Gray Carpet

GQ Bowl 2026: See Every Celebrity Look from the Gray Carpet

Live from San Francisco, it’s the second annual GQ Bowl. This year, we’re throwing down in the Bay with Thom Browne, who will be showcasing his fall 2026 collection with a live-streamed fashion show at the Legion of Honor Museum tonight. You can watch it all go down on GQ’s YouTube channel at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. EST. But first up, the celebs are already lining up here in SF—and we’ve got your first look at all the biggest, boldest fits hitting the gray carpet. To jog your memory: Last year, we partnered with Bode ahead of the big game in the Big Easy. Now, we’re teaming up with Team Thom Browne for our sophomore football-forward runway event. In September, we gathered a bevy of stars to toss the pigskin in some stylish, striped garms for the menswear juggernaut and CFDA chairman’s annual football game; the yearly scrimmage is a Thom Browne tradition dating back to 2014, when he first hosted one in Central Park with his New York employees. Over the years, his label …
