WWDC Will Be Tim Cook’s Swan Song. I Expect Something Siri-ous

WWDC Will Be Tim Cook’s Swan Song. I Expect Something Siri-ous

“I love Apple, and I consider it the privilege of a lifetime to have worked here for almost 14 years, and I’m very excited about this new role.” That’s how Tim Cook opened the iPhone 4S event in October 2011, his first product launch as Apple’s CEO. Fifteen years later, we’re on the precipice of another landmark Apple event for the chief of one of the world’s most iconic and valuable companies. This Worldwide Developers Conference will be Cook’s last before he hands over the reins to incoming CEO John Ternus in September, likely just ahead of that month’s iPhone event.  There’s not really a leadership change playbook at the company, as Cook took over from Steve Jobs as his struggle with pancreatic cancer took a turn for the worse. That makes this moment uncharted territory. WWDC, Apple’s annual software developer conference, has hosted many exciting product launches across the years, from the first iOS to Apple Silicon to Apple Intelligence. It’s a moment of hellos, rather than goodbyes — but this one will be …

Tim Ream Will Be the Captain of the US National Team at the World Cup

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Tim Ream was surprised, his voice filled with emotion. On the verge of becoming the oldest U.S. player to appear in a World Cup, the 38-year-old defender was picked by coach Mauricio Pochettino to captain the Americans next month. “Wow,” Ream said during a news conference Saturday, seated alongside Pochettino. “This is more than a dream come true. I’ve done everything possible to be a part of this group, to help this group along. I’m just really, really grateful to be sitting here, to have this honor.” Ream was not aware he was going to be appointed captain until Pochettino made the announcement during a news conference on an indoor field at the new U.S. National Soccer Training Center. “It’s the highest honor for me in this group,” he said, his voice echoing in the gym-like room. “I’m not going to take that for granted.” A St. Louis native who plays for Charlotte in Major League Soccer, Ream will be 38 years, 250 days on the day the U.S. plays its …

Courtesy of Charlotte FC hide caption toggle caption Courtesy of Charlotte FC There’s a lot riding on the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer – especially for the American co-hosts. There’s the hope that the U.S. Men’s National Team will not just play well, but make a deep run in the tournament. Then there’s the hope that the tournament – which is being hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico – will light a fuse and inspire a new generation of fans. Despite growing stubbornly on the backs of the success of the women’s national team, many have questioned the viability of a long-term American soccer audience. No one understands this more than Tim Ream. He’s been a steady presence on defense at his Major League Soccer club, Charlotte FC. And if he’s selected tomorrow in the final, 26-man roster for the U.S. Men’s National Team, he’ll …

Tim McGraw reveals emotional coincidence that changed his life forever

Tim McGraw reveals emotional coincidence that changed his life forever

Tim McGraw is reflecting on a deeply emotional moment from the very beginning of his country music journey – and the heartbreaking coincidence that has stayed with him ever since. The 59-year-old country superstar looked back on the day he first arrived in Nashville in 1989, revealing it was also the day one of his musical heroes, Keith Whitley, tragically died. Sharing the memory on Instagram, Tim recalled arriving in Music City on a Greyhound bus, full of dreams and determination, only to learn that Keith had passed away aged just 34 from acute alcohol poisoning. “On that day, ironically, Keith Whitley died,” Tim wrote in the emotional post. “It’s no secret I’ve been a huge Keith Whitley fan my whole life.” The singer explained that Keith’s music had long inspired him, both personally and professionally, and still plays a role in his pre-show ritual today. “If you’ve ever seen me on stage, I started the night warming up with @bobminner, sitting on a road case in a hallway backstage or hanging out in the …

L.A. City Council District 15 election guide: Tim McOsker vs. Jordan Rivers

p]:text-cms-story-body-color-text clearfix”> McOsker said Mayor Karen Bass’ Inside Safe program has been effective in clearing homeless encampments and moving the residents inside. He supports reducing costs by doubling people up in rooms and cutting underutilized contracts. “It’s unsustainable as it is to spend this much, and I think everyone recognizes that,” he said. McOsker said he supports “no encampment” zones, per Municipal Code 41.18, around places like schools, day care centers, libraries and homeless shelters. It’s especially important to keep encampments away from shelters, he said, so people can get help without distractions nearby. “We really need to make that break and give folks an opportunity to put their lives together,” he said. Rivers equated the no-encampment zones to federal immigration operations in the city, arguing that they enable law enforcement to snatch people off the street without giving them a place to go. “Just moving homelessness doesn’t all of a sudden solve it,” he said. Instead, Rivers wants to establish “safe shelter” zones where people can get their needs met instead of being chased …
