This Gboard feature is a huge timesaver, but only available in iOS

Most Google apps are a bit better on Android as Google keeps its best features for its own platform (and there are still many Android features that iPhones still can’t match). But sometimes iOS gets a feature before Android, as is the case with a huge time-saving feature available in Gboard for iOS that keeps you focused on your present task without having to leave what you are doing just to do a simple task—in this case, making a simple calculation with Gboard’s handy built-in calculator (that you may have missed), which is present on both iPhone and iPad OS. This might not seem like a major help, but it’s about cognitive load and focus: if you’re in the middle of sending a text message and need …

I tested Google Docs’ new AI audio summaries, and they’re a massive time-saver

I work with a lot of documents in Google Docs, and I often ask the built-in Gemini AI to summarize a specific document for me. The text-based summary is typically short and concise, so it’s easy enough to read. But sometimes I’d just like to sit back and listen to a summary read aloud to me. With a new skill in Google Docs, I can do just that. The “Listen to document summary” feature taps into Gemini to generate a summary of your current document and then read it to you. With a floating and moveable mini player, you can pause and restart the reading, increase or decrease the playback speed, and switch among different voices. I find this to be a time saver as I can listen to the summary while doing other things or just while relaxing. “Audio summaries provide a short verbal synopsis of the contents in your document, including multiple tabs,” Google said in a Feb. 12 blog post …

I let Microsoft Edge’s new AI feature read all my open tabs – and it’s a total research time-saver

The feature uses Copilot to analyze the details across all tabs. You can use this to research hotels, restaurants, products, and more. Microsoft Edge has long been able to summarize the information on your current web page courtesy of Copilot AI. I’ve used this option a number of times to get the gist of a lengthy article or other page. But now Edge has refined that skill to take it to an even more helpful level. As spotted by PC World, a relatively new Copilot mode can analyze all your open tabs at the same time. Open two or more tabs and tell Edge to summarize the information in all of them. In return, the browser displays a summary that condenses the details in one fell swoop. As one example, you could open different tabs with separate reviews of a restaurant or hotel or a product you’re thinking of buying. Rather than …
