ABC’s David Muir takes on ‘terrifying’ feat for World News Tonight for emotional reason

David Muir is scaling new heights – quite literally! And David’s might just be the most physical. In a preview of the special, the World News Tonight anchor revealed that he climbed to the very top of the Statue of Liberty’s torch in New York City, a whopping 300 feet in the air, overlooking the water below and the city spreading out before him. Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver checks in to “General Hospital

Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver checks in to “General Hospital

Hosting an award-winning late-night comedy show simply was not enough for John Oliver. On Thursday, the “Last Week Tonight” host kicks off a guest-star arc on ABC’s long-running daytime soap “General Hospital,” which continues through Friday and then Monday, July 6. Why? Because he noticed ESPN sports commentator Stephen A. Smith’s multiple appearances on the show over the years as a minor character named Brick, crime boss Sonny Corinthos’ ruthless fixer, and thought, “Why not me?” Oliver announced his guest appearance on the June 28 episode of “Last Week Tonight,” the final episode before the show’s midsummer hiatus. But as he reminded the audience, his campaign to appear on a soap — any soap — began in March when he confessed his love for the genre and his “scorching hot jealousy” that Smith got to play in that world. His only conditions were that he wanted to play a character with a ridiculous name and wanted to do something juicy, “like murder or slapping, or being slapped, or being someone’s long-lost something,” he said, adding, …

Prime Day Ends Tonight. Shop These 184+ Deals Before They’re Gone

The NotePin S AI wearable, seen here on the wrist of CNET’s Katie Collins, could be really useful for my job. And it’s on sale for Prime Day. Andrew Lanxon/CNET I took over the role of CNET’s editorial leader earlier this year, and while I’ve participated in Prime Day sales as a TV reviewer and general deals editor here for (literally) decades, this is my first Prime Day as EIC. In case you’re wondering what purchases a person like me is considering this time around, here’s a sampling. iPad 11-inch A16 ($300): My artistic daughter has been asking for an iPad and if my wife approves, I’ll likely get her this basic version, our top pick for most people. I’d also get her the Apple Pencil (on sale for $60). We’d save both of these for Christmas presents. Belkin Portable Charger Bank ($38): My family and I always need portable chargers. Half our devices call for Lightning and the other half for USB-C. This does both and I like the built-in cables. Plaud NotePin S …

Coronation Street and Emmerdale pulled from ITV in schedule shake-up tonight

Coronation Street and Emmerdale pulled from ITV in schedule shake-up tonight

Soap fans – there’s some bad news. Neither Coronation Street nor Emmerdale will air tonight (Wednesday 24 June). This is, of course, due to the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite the footy kicking our serial dramas off their usual pitch every single tournament, it still becomes a chore to try to work out when they’re next on air. Luckily, Radio Times has all of the answers. In January, a soap “power hour” – with both shows airing 30-minute instalments between 8pm and 9pm – was launched by ITV to provide consistency for viewers. Despite that, the schedules continue to be rocked. In their place tonight, the broadcaster will air coverage of the Switzerland v Canada game, hosted by Mark Pougatch. Kick off is at 8pm, though we’ll head to the BC Place Vancouver in Canada an hour earlier. There’s no Coronation Street or Emmerdale tonight. ITV Fear not, however, as we haven’t got long to wait for our next slice of cobbles and Dales action. Tomorrow (Thursday 25 June), hour-long episodes will air from 8pm on …

World Tonight set for axe, Today presenters cut, local audio producers slashed

Picture: Taljat David / Shutterstock.com The BBC has revealed that entire radio programmes and 10% of senior roles are to be axed as part of the its 2,000 job cuts in its biggest downsizing in 15 years. The cuts make up £160m of its savings target of £500m (10% of total costs) over the next three years, announced in February, which will see up to 2,000 roles cut. Around 550 roles are expected to be cut across News, Nations and Content divisions by the start of 2027/28. These divisions would also be making a reduction in commissioning spend of around £80m. A target of £25m is to be saved in News with a net reduction of 200 roles, £100m in content with a reduction of 100 roles and £33m in National with a cut of 250 roles. Further savings across all divisions will be set out in the coming months, a BBC spokesperson said, including corporate divisions, where around 700 roles are expected to go. Broadcast output is set to be cut “as audiences move …

Are Coronation Street and Emmerdale on tonight amid World Cup schedule chaos?

Are Coronation Street and Emmerdale on tonight amid World Cup schedule chaos?

The soap schedule has been up in the air recently, with sports coverage taking over our screens. Coronation Street and Emmerdale have both suffered on several occasions, due to coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Tonight will be no different, with both ITV soaps being removed the schedule due to the broadcaster’s coverage of England vs Croatia. It’s the same case on Thursday (18 June), with Switzerland vs Bosnia-Herzegovina being shown live. Thankfully, normal service is resumed on Friday (19 June), with each soap returning to their traditional slots and running times. Emmerdale will air at 8pm before Corrie comes at 8.30pm, each episode running for 30 minutes.
