Norda 001A G+ Trail Running Shoe Review: As Expensive as an Apple Watch

Norda 001A G+ Trail Running Shoe Review: As Expensive as an Apple Watch

The Norda 001 was the brand’s first release, a cushioned trailer designed for ultra miles with a distinct cult classic styling that really set it apart. The follow-up 001A aims to build on that reputation. It now comes in three models: the 001A, the 001A G+ with added weatherproofing, and the 001A G+ Spike ($355), which adds spikes and waterproofing for harsher conditions like snow and ice. I tested the 001A G+. The shoe’s tech credentials are littered with trademark and patent symbols. But symbolic techiness aside, Norda’s aim for the 001A was simple—“to find the most advanced midsole foam for trail that combined the highest resiliency possible yet performed and lasted 5-10x longer than other super foams.” Photograph: Kieran Alger That new foam is now a proprietary Norda x Arnitel thermoplastic polyester elastomer blend that aims to deliver 30 percent more rebound than the original 001. It weighs 10 percent less and still delivers that signature durability that lasts beyond 1,000 kilometers (621 miles). In testing, that midsole setup made for a mildly energetic …

A New Public Art Biennial Will Launch Along the Katy Trail in Dallas

A New Public Art Biennial Will Launch Along the Katy Trail in Dallas

The Katy Trail, a 3.5-mile urban greenway in Dallas, will be the venue for a new public art biennial launching in Spring 2027. The KTX Biennial will unfold across the length of the Katy Trail, and the works will be on view for up to 18 months, the approved length for a temporary public work in Dallas. New York–based curator Jovanna Venegas will organize the inaugural edition of the KTX Biennial. The Katy Trail runs through three Dallas neighborhoods, Uptown, Knox, and Highland Park, and is free to the public and open from 5am until 11pm. Conceived of as a public-private partnership in 1997, the Katy Trail is an early example of converting former rail lines into green space. It now sees some 2 million visitors. Related Articles “We thought that the most beloved trail in the city of Dallas, the Katy Trail, made a lot of sense of the location for a public art program,” Amanda Dillard Shufeldt, art director of the Katy Trail, told ARTnews in an interview. The forthcoming biennial builds on …

Out on the campaign trail with the FARC : NPR

Election posters for FARC candidate Luis Albán, who is campaigning for a seat in Colombia’s congress on the 8th March. John Otis/NPR hide caption toggle caption John Otis/NPR BUGALAGRANDE, Colombia—Ten years ago, former Marxist guerrillas in Colombia signed a peace treaty with the government. The deal allowed them to lay down their weapons and run for elected office. Now, a decade later, they’re discovering that winning votes can be harder than waging war. Among them is Luis Albán who is campaigning to keep his seat in Colombia’s congress. At a get-out-the-vote rally in the western Colombian town of Bugalagrande. the stocky, bearded candidate seems shy and disoriented. He neglects to tell people that legislative elections are on Sunday or even to state his own name. Albán, 68, is more accustomed to hiding who he is. At age 12 he joined a clandestine communist youth group then spent 40 years on the run as a high-ranking member of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. Known as the FARC, it used to be the country’s largest, and most …

On the trail of Peaky Blinders, Black Sabbath and the perfect pint – an alternative guide to Birmingham | Birmingham holidays

On the trail of Peaky Blinders, Black Sabbath and the perfect pint – an alternative guide to Birmingham | Birmingham holidays

Culture – Shelby murals and Sabbath shrines The runaway success of the TV crime drama Peaky Blinders has been credited with boosting tourism to Birmingham and the West Midlands since it first aired in 2013, even though much of the series was actually shot farther north, in Merseyside, Yorkshire and Manchester. The release this week of the Peaky Blinders movie The Immortal Man (much of which was filmed in and around Birmingham this time) will undoubtedly generate a new wave of interest, particularly in the Black Country Living Museum in nearby Dudley, whose authentic recreations of streets, houses and industrial workshops appear in key scenes in the TV show and the film – most notably as the location for Charlie Strong’s yard (pictured below). Studios, where much of the new movie was shot, fans can also see Peaky Blinders murals created by artist Mr Murals. A walking tour of the city with a guide dressed as …

Zoning in on Ménilmontant, Paris: ‘bohemian, arty and off the tourist trail’ | Paris holidays

Zoning in on Ménilmontant, Paris: ‘bohemian, arty and off the tourist trail’ | Paris holidays

Why go now On a hill that rises up between Belleville’s Chinatown and Père-Lachaise cemetery, Ménilmontant was once a rural hamlet with vines and farms, before becoming more industrial in the 19th century. The quartier boasts a united, colourful community whose working-class Parisian roots have long been integrated with a strong north African diaspora. Bohemian, arty and socially committed, it remains off the tourist trail with no notable museums or monuments; it’s just a genuinely Parisian neighbourhood. The locals were bemused to learn that Time Out made Ménilmontant one of its World’s Coolest Neighbourhoods for 2025, though tourists who do venture here to discover a glimpse of a fast-disappearing Paris are sure of a warm welcome. Where to eat and drink Chez les Deux Amis Brocante Eating out in Ménilmontant is inexpensive, hearty, multi-ethnic and vegetarian-friendly. My favourite discovery is La Cantine des Hommes Libres, a retro bistrot where the dish of the day costs €11.50 for blanquette de veau, boeuf bourguignon or Algerian specialities such as tikourbabine, while the couscous is the best I …

In the footsteps of a Welsh borderlands baddie: walking the Mortimer Trail | Walking holidays

In the footsteps of a Welsh borderlands baddie: walking the Mortimer Trail | Walking holidays

In the UK, there is a proud tradition of naming long-distance walking paths after talented reprobates. I mean the various opium fiends, international terrorists and child murderers who make up our colourful national tapestry (see the Coleridge Way, Drake’s Trail and the Richard III Trail). So perhaps a 30-mile weekend walk dedicated to the Mortimers, and their most notorious scion, Sir Roger, is an appropriate addition to the weave. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. After all, this is the man who allegedly slept with a reigning queen (Isabella), probably killed her husband (Edward II), and certainly became de facto tyrant of the realm for three turbulent years in the 1320s, feathering his own nest relentlessly during that time. They don’t make world leaders like that any longer, do they? A view towards Mortimer Forest. Biathlon-Morton takes dad’s lead to blaze a trail for Aussie biathlon

Biathlon-Morton takes dad’s lead to blaze a trail for Aussie biathlon

ANTERSELVA, Italy, Feb 15 : After almost two years of travelling and honing her skills, Australian biathlete Darcie Morton followed in her father’s footsteps by making her Olympic debut 20 years to the day after he made his own. The 26-year-old sharpshooter debuted in the women’s 15km individual race on February 11, mirroring her father Cameron 20 years earlier when he made his maiden race at the Torino Games in 2006. “Dad’s here cheering for me as well, and for him to have competed in the Olympics in Italy and then me 20 years later, it’s pretty amazing,” Morton told Reuters after competing in Saturday’s women’s sprint.  Morton’s Olympic debut is the culmination of a two-year period of intense hard work during which she only spent a month in her native Australia; the rest of the time was spent training in Norway, Austria and Italy’s South Tyrol region, where the biathlon competitions at the current Games are being held. Morton’s father was one of only a handful of Aussie Olympic biathletes 20 years ago and …

How Joseph Grigely Blazed a Trail for Disability Arts

How Joseph Grigely Blazed a Trail for Disability Arts

I never thought I’d get misty-eyed reading an essay called “Why I Am an Asshole,” but artists are always surprising me, and that’s why I love my job. This tragicomic tearjerker, from 2021, appears in Joseph Grigely’s new essay collection Otherhow: Essays and Documents on Art and Disability 1985–2024. The book made me laugh and cry, and it made me angry, too—angry alongside, rather than at, the author. I felt seen. I learned lots. You’re probably wondering: Why is Joseph Grigely an asshole? His short, self-deprecating answer is that he is fed up, as a deaf man, with navigating ableism, with overcoming the same obstacles again and again. Sometimes, that frustration shows. And sometimes, when people—strangers, pizza delivery workers, police officers—try talking to him and he doesn’t reply because he cannot hear, they grow angry or annoyed, or even try to arrest him. Related Articles The asshole essay originated as a preemptive apology to students while guest lecturing on Zoom. He was asking for their patience as he eyeballed several screens to keep track of …
