It will include the Proms debut of The Met Orchestra and the highly-anticipated return of the Los Angeles Philharmonic after nearly 25 years, while it will premiere new work from American composers Wynton Marsalis and Jessie Montgomery. The world’s biggest classical music festival will also see debut performances by the Spanish National Orchestra and the Mahler Academy Orchestra from Italy, along with the return of the Berlin, Munich and Oslo philharmonic orchestras. Audiences can also expect appearances from conductors and star soloists including Marin Alsop, Angel Blue and Joyce DiDonato, as well as internationally-renowned pianists Martha Argerich, Kirill Gerstein, Yunchan Lim and Yuja Wang. Mel Schilling urged fans to get symptoms ‘checked out’ in final post before death The MAFS star told her fans that her cancer had spread to the left side of her brain and become terminal just weeks before her death, urging them: “If something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.” Sharing her final post to Instagram on 12 March, Schilling wrote: “Despite subsequent radiotherapy sessions, my oncology team have now told me there is nothing further they can do. “Hearing those words changes everything. The stars of Buffy The Vampire Slayer have been paying their respects following the death of cast member Nicholas Brendon. Over the weekend, it was announced that Nicholas – best known to Buffy fans for his portrayal of Xander Harris in the supernatural series – had died at the age of 54. His family told CNN that the actor had died in his sleep, of natural causes. In a statement, they said: “Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and for the characters he brought to life over the years. In recent years Nicky has found his passion in painting and art. “Nicky loved to share his enthusiastic talent with his family, friends and fans. Tributes have been paid to beloved broadcaster, Dame Jenni Murray, who has died at the age of 75. Murray had been the host of BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour for over 30 years, having joined the programme in 1987 before her departure in 2020, making her its longest-serving presenter. BBC director-general Tim Davie led the tributes, describing Murray as “a broadcasting icon” who “created a safe space for her audiences thanks to her warmth, intelligence and courage”. “We shall all miss her terribly,” he said in a statement. “Her legacy endures in the countless conversations she started, the many issues she championed and the lives she touched.” Dame Jenni Murray. David M. Lapotaire enjoyed decades of success on the stage and screen, winning Tony and Olivier Awards for her starring role in the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC)’s 1981 production Piaf, based on the life of iconic French singer Édith Piaf. She was also known for appearances in movies such as the 1996 biopic Surviving Picasso and a 2020 adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. Her small screen credits included portraying Princess Kuragin in series five of Downton Abbey and Prince Phillip’s estranged mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, in series three of The Crown. Tributes have been paid to two young hikers found dead in the Eryri mountain range (Snowdonia). Jayden Long, 19, and Eddie Hill, 20, from Norfolk, were found dead on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) on Thursday after concerns over their welfare were raised with the police on Wednesday, prompting an extensive search in winter conditions. Their families and friends paid tribute to the pair on social media, describing them as “best friends” who died “doing something [they] loved”. “I cannot put into words how hard this is for me and everyone who knew Jayden,” his younger sister, Jodie Long, wrote in a social media post about her “amazing, kind and caring big brother”. “He was doing something he loved and was taken from us too soon and he will be forever missed.
