Five Love Stories Love Story Should Tackle Next

Five Love Stories Love Story Should Tackle Next

In the run-up to Love Story‘s season 1 finale, creator Connor Hines suggested that a second season of the Ryan Murphy-produced series—which spent this season documenting the tempestuous and ultimately tragic relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette—might tackle the equally stormy history of twice-married, twice-divorced screen legends Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton next. Taylor and Burton, Hines mused to Vanity Fair, have “the right intensity.” Going from American royalty to Hollywood royalty is a natural leap. But if there’s one thing we know about Ryan Murphy, it’s that the man loves a long-running franchise, which means he’s probably got his romantic-drama hounds sniffing the ground furiously, in search of other couples who’d be prime for the Love Story treatment. ‘Love Story’ Was the Most Influential Menswear Show Since ‘Mad Men’

RoseMarie Terenzio has many fond memories of John F. Kennedy Jr.: the green velvet Gucci suit he wore to a company Christmas party; how he’d run Kiehl’s Silk Groom through his enviable mane and toss on a hat to flatten his hair; or the way, if designers sent him suits or ties, he’d often gift them to guys in the office. “He liked to look nice and dress nice,” says Terenzio, who was Kennedy Jr.’s assistant from 1994 until his death in 1999 and the author of JFK Jr.: An Intimate Oral Biography. “He liked nice suits, but he wasn’t someone who needed 20. He always felt like if he had some sort of privilege, he would share it.” JFK Jr. is back in the spotlight, some 27 years after his and his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s tragic deaths, thanks to the Ryan Murphy-produced FX series Love Story, the most-watched limited series on Hulu and Disney+ to date, which concluded its nine-episode run last night. While Bessette Kennedy—or CBK, as she is often called—is an …

How ‘Love Story’ Said Goodbye to JFK Jr. and Carolyn

The episode begins with John and Carolyn in a couples therapy session. We watch them fall in love with each other again—they even return to Panna II, the restaurant where they had their first date. Can you talk about that decision, showing them mending their relationship? Simpson: Everyone knew that he’d moved out. We knew that it was rocky, and they were having good times and bad times. We knew that she had committed to going to this wedding, and they were in couples counseling. In terms of the unknowable question of “what would happen if they hadn’t gone down on the plane,” I think our tendency was to lean toward hope and toward positivity. We wanted to go back to that Indian restaurant. We wanted to go back, after two really intense episodes, to the romance between the two of them. Lean in to the idea that the show’s about how relationships are tough. You have a great romance that has to live in the reality of a marriage. What we wanted to lean …

HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Cast Has Assembled, and Production Is Underway. Here’s Everything We Know

HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Cast Has Assembled, and Production Is Underway. Here’s Everything We Know

Nearly fifteen years after the final installment of the original film series, production is underway on HBO’s reimagining of the Harry Potter series, and this week HBO released the first official photo from that production. That’s right—it’s been almost a decade and a half since The Deathly Hallows Pt. II, which is a pretty long time to go without a reboot for a franchise as huge as Harry Potter, not least in the age of rapacious IP exploitation. Yeah, sure, the Fantastic Beasts movies scratched an itch for the wannabe wizards of the world, and the triple-A video game Hogwarts Legacy provided a veritable Floo Network for millions of Potterheads. But neither holds a magically floating candle to the O.G. films, right? So now comes an HBO Harry Potter TV series adapting the original Harry Potter novels, which is expected to be epic in length, rolling out over the course of a decade (or more). The film series made stars of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, and introduced a new generation of fans …

Miley Cyrus on Finding Sobriety After Being a Child Star: “My Life Is So Beautiful”

After a turbulent coming of age in the spotlight, which included the release of Cyrus’s provocative “Wrecking Ball” music video and a risqué VMAs performance with Robin Thicke, “I wasn’t trying to kill Hannah off,” she told Variety. “I was just progressing.” Cyrus continued, “Being recognizable as a teen going through different phases and stages was sometimes awkward, but that’s what helped me relate to the kids watching at home.” She added: “I boldly and unapologetically presented myself to the world at that time, where I could have gone the other way and played it safe. Maybe that would have been successful at the time, and it wouldn’t have been such a cross to bear, but I wouldn’t have had the reward. I don’t know if I would have had the sustainability that my career has now.” In 2020, Cyrus changed her life by choosing sobriety. As she told Variety, “It’s no surprise that I had my experiences with drugs and alcohol. “I was so used to living at a high, and I don’t think I ever learned …

Nicholas Brendon, Iconic Star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Has Died

Actor Nicholas Brendon, who was best known for his portrayal of Xander Harris on influential TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has died, his family announced via social media. He was 54. “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon,” a post to his Instagram account reads. “He passed in his sleep of natural causes.” “While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing,” the post continues, a reference to Brendon’s years of legal troubles including arrests for for drug offenses and assault claims. Last week, a legal dispute between Brendon and his contractor made news after the contractor alleged Brendon engaged in aggressive behavior against him and his crew. But for many, Nicholas Brendon remains indelible as the close friend of Buffy Summers, who was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Brendon’s character was beloved for his ability to transform insecurity, irony, and vulnerability …

Chuck Norris Dies At Age 86

Actor and conservative political figure Chuck Norris has died at age 86. The tough, silent face of a very specific idea of heroism passed away Thursday after a brief hospitalization in Hawaii. His family announced the news on social media Friday, saying “While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace.” “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength,” the post continued. “To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.” Chuck Norris demonstrated a longevity rare in the genre as a performer and martial arts champion. Born Carlos Ray Norris in Oklahoma, he collected black belts in a variety of disciplines, from judo to taekwondo, eventually founding his own style, Chun Kuk Do. By the 1970s and 1980s he had become one of the most recognizable faces in American action, with such titles as The Way of the Dragon, Good Guys Wear Black, …
