France’s Gig-Economy Built On Migrant Labor As 99% Of Surveyed Delivery-Riders Are Foreign-Born, Two-Thirds Are Illegal

Authored by Thomas Brooke via Remix News, A major new study has found that France’s food delivery sector is almost exclusively staffed by migrant workers, a majority of whom are living in France illegally. The Enquête report, based on a survey of more than 1,000 riders in Paris and Bordeaux, reveals that 98.7 percent of delivery couriers were born outside France, with nearly two-thirds lacking legal residency status, highlighting the extent to which the platform economy depends on a highly vulnerable migrant labor force. The workforce is dominated by recent arrivals from Africa, the majority of whom are not undertaking any other education or training in France. A total of 55.2 percent of riders come from West Africa, making it by far the largest group. A further 17.4 percent are from North Africa, while 4.6 percent come from other African countries, meaning that over 77 percent of all riders are African-born. By comparison, 16.6 percent are from Asia, 4 percent from the Middle East, and fewer than 2 percent from France. Most riders are new or relatively …

Hungary’s Tisza party seen winning two-thirds majority in parliament, Median projection shows

BUDAPEST, April 8 (Reuters) – Hungary’s opposition party Tisza is on track to win a two-thirds parliamentary majority in Sunday’s election, allowing it ‌to amend the constitution and key laws needed to unlock ‌EU funds, a projection from polling agency Median showed on Wednesday. Veteran nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party are facing the biggest challenge to their rule in 16 years as the centre-right Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, is leading in independent polls. Tisza is seen winning between 138 and 142 seats in the ‌199-member parliament, according to an estimate based on an analysis of Median’s five most recent opinion polls conducted in late February and March. Fidesz is expected to secure between 49 and 55 seats while the far-right Our Homeland (Mi Hazank) party is estimated to win five or six seats, the projection showed. In Hungary’s parliament, a party needs 133 seats to obtain a supermajority required to ‌amend the constitution and key laws. Fidesz has held a two-thirds majority throughout most of its rule since 2010, …

Two-thirds of Cuba, including Havana, hit by blackout

Two-thirds of Cuba, including Havana, hit by blackout

The silhouette of the Capitol stands out at dawn in Havana on March 03, 2026. YAMIL LAGE / AFP A grid failure knocked out power to two-thirds of Cuba, including Havana, on Wednesday, March 4, the national electric company UNE said. The issue stemmed from an “unexpected” breakdown at the Antonio Guiteras power plant, one of the island’s largest, the utility said, adding that the center and west of the island were affected. Cuba’s electricity generation system is in shambles. Daily power outages of up to 20 hours are the norm in parts of the impoverished island, which lacks the fuel needed to generate power. Cuban authorities as a result have taken drastic measures, including the suspension of diesel sales, gasoline rationing, reduction of hospital care, and teleworking. Public transport has also been sharply reduced, prompting a surge in prices for private shuttles. The Caribbean island of Cuba lies some 150 kilometers (93 miles) off the southern coast of the US state of Florida. Read more Subscribers only ‘The only thing left to do is …

Japan election: PM Sanae Takaichi’s ruling coalition projected to win two-thirds majority

Japan election: PM Sanae Takaichi’s ruling coalition projected to win two-thirds majority

Japan’s ruling coalition is set to win a two-thirds majority in the lower house election, media projections showed on Sunday (Feb 8), in what would be a big victory for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) alone had already secured the 233 seats needed for a majority around 90 minutes after polls closed.  Her party is projected to win as many as 328 seats, which would be its best-ever result, national broadcaster NHK reported. When Takaichi took office in October, the LDP was 37 seats short of a majority in the lower house – a position that worsened when Komeito, its coalition partner, broke away and joined hands with the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party to form the Centrist Reform Alliance. Two-thirds of National Rally supporters prefer Bardella to Le Pen as their candidate – POLITICO

Two-thirds of National Rally supporters prefer Bardella to Le Pen as their candidate – POLITICO

Fifty-seven percent of all respondents in the Odaxa poll, which was published Thursday evening in Le Figaro, believed Bardella would be able “exist politically” without Le Pen, seemingly assuaging concerns that he would flounder with his mentor. Forty percent said they are considering voting for Bardella, compared to 38 percent for Le Pen. Bardella has been at pains in recent days to insist on his full support for Le Pen. On Thursday, he said that Le Pen was “innocent” and hoped that she would be the far right’s “standard bearer” in 2027. But Le Pen has appeared increasingly pessimistic about her prospects of a successful appeal. She had repeatedly professed her innocence, slamming the charges as politically motivated, but last month said that if a crime was committed, it was not done intentionally. A verdict in the case, which Le Pen has said will determine her political fate, is expected before summer. Source link

Two-thirds of poorer Europeans can’t keep homes cool in ever-hotter summers – POLITICO

Two-thirds of poorer Europeans can’t keep homes cool in ever-hotter summers – POLITICO

As a result, some 60 percent of tenants said they had felt too hot at home at least once over the past five years, versus just over 40 percent of owners. Beyond heat, the survey looked at flooding, wildfires, water scarcity, wind damage and increasing insect bites. In total, 80 percent of respondents said they had been affected by at least one of these impacts over the past five years. But heat waves, which are made more frequent, longer and hotter by climate change, emerged as the top concern, with nearly half of respondents saying they had felt too hot in their home and 60 percent saying they had felt too hot outside. Income and property ownership aren’t the only dividing lines, however.  Europeans in poor health — many of whom may be homebound — are also more likely to be at risk from extreme heat, the polling found. More than half of people describing themselves as being in poor health reported being unable to afford to keep their homes cool, compared to just over a …

Two-thirds of non-speaking autistic children gain speech with evidence-based therapy

Two-thirds of non-speaking autistic children gain speech with evidence-based therapy

A large-scale analysis of data on autistic preschoolers reveals that while the majority of children gain spoken language skills after receiving evidence-based early interventions, a distinct subgroup does not experience these same linguistic advances. The research identifies specific developmental characteristics, such as lower motor imitation skills and adaptive behavior scores, that mark the profiles of children who remain non-speaking. These findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology. Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental condition that affects how individuals communicate and interact with the world around them. One of the primary objectives of early therapeutic programs is helping these children acquire spoken language. The ability to speak during the preschool years is widely recognized as a strong predictor of long-term independence, social inclusion, and overall quality of life. Conversely, children who remain non-speaking or minimally speaking by the time they reach school age often face increased risks for lifelong disabilities. Clinical trials have long established that various behavioral and developmental therapies can be effective in promoting speech. However, researchers and clinicians …
