Former unregistered NDIS director faces 15-year jail term for alleged $858k misuse 

The former director of an Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider faces a possible 15-year jail term over the alleged misuse of $858,000 in company funds. The accused, Byson James Kete Turner (Byson James Kete Attrill-Green), is a former director of Links Support and Consulting Services Pty Ltd. (Links), an NDIS provider, and has been charged with offences relating to transactions involving gambling, lottery, and trading platforms.  Turner accused of diverting funds to alleged betting accounts The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigated Turner’s account activity.  As a result of the ASIC findings, Turner has been charged with eight counts of dishonestly using his position as a director to gain an advantage, each carrying a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment, and two counts of failing to attend compulsory ASIC examinations, each punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment. Ofsted reports dramatic increase in unregistered school referrals

The schools inspectorate has reported a significant increase in referrals for suspected unregistered schools. According to research published today, Ofsted has received 200 referrals this academic year (1st September 2024 to 31st March 2025) in England. In previous years, the average was under 150 referrals per year. Unregistered schools are illegal and those who run them are committing a criminal offence. There have been seven unregistered school prosecutions, resulting in 21 convictions of individuals or organisations. The National Secular Society has long warned that some religious groups use unregistered schools to evade scrutiny of their activities so they can prioritise fundamentalist religious ideology over the education and welfare needs of children. Ofsted said that of the 669 settings inspected since it set up an unregistered schools team in January 2016, 18% were determined to have a faith ethos.
