Las Vegas Sphere Turns Into Huge Moon

Las Vegas Sphere Turns Into Huge Moon

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech NASA’s historic Artemis 2 mission has been a resounding success so far. The crew of four astronauts hurtled around the Moon earlier this week and are expected to make reentry and splash down in the Pacific Ocean Friday evening, bookending an exciting opening salvo for the space agency’s efforts to return humans to the lunar surface for the first time in over half a century. Meanwhile, the country continues to cheer them on from over 100,000 miles away. In one particularly creative celebration, the Sphere in Las Vegas, a massive round screen-covered entertainment arena just off of the Strip, partnered with NASA to turn the hulking structure into the Moon itself. Drone footage shared by the venue shows the mission’s Orion spacecraft lazily circling the picture-perfect Moon. The space agency “provided us with a 3D model of the spacecraft and unique soundbites from the April 1st launch to help us design the Moon, spacecraft, and flight path to …

Jason Spisak talks D&D, Arcane fans & being shot in Fallout: New Vegas

Dungeons & Dragons is in the ascendancy in gaming culture these days, whether that’s through games like Baldur’s Gate 3, a blockbuster film, or more recently, live plays. In conventions across the world, the famous faces of the worlds of gaming, anime and more have begun to convene to play out short D&D campaigns for an audience. The recent DreamHack Birmingham was no stranger to this, placing the likes of Carolina Ravassa (Overwatch, Valorant) and Mela Lee (Mortal Kombat, Apex Legends) on stage for a one-shot live on stage. Joining them was Jason Spisak, the voice behind Arcane’s Silco, Fallout: New Vegas’s Vulpes Inculta and more, who revealed to me before the show how deep his love of D&D runs. “I’ve been playing D&D since the ’80s,” he began. “I had the chance to play 2nd Edition when I was younger, and I love it. “It is the embodiment of being a child again. You get to take your imagination and let it have free reign over a story. And the collaborative nature of it, …

Why One Las Vegas Newspaper Just Stopped Printing Its Rival

Why One Las Vegas Newspaper Just Stopped Printing Its Rival

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Review-Journal announced Friday that it will no longer print its rival the Las Vegas Sun for the first time in decades, sharpening their legal dispute over the nation’s last joint operating agreement stemming from a 1970 law designed to preserve newspapers. Readers “will not find a printed Las Vegas Sun insert inside,” the Review-Journal wrote in an editorial, noting the Sun maintains a website, has a few hundred thousand followers across social media platforms, and is free to produce its own newspaper. “We encourage them to do so. The Review-Journal competes with countless sources of news and entertainment, but we would welcome one more. We just don’t want to foot the bill. It is time the Sun stood up on its own two feet,” the editorial said, without specifying the cost. It was the first day in 76 years the Sun hasn’t been printed, Sun attorney Leif Reid said in an email. “This does irreparable harm to our community, as no one benefits when a local newspaper is …

Vegas and Seattle a Step Closer to Getting NBA Teams. League’s Owners Approve Expansion Exploration

NEW YORK (AP) — Seattle and Las Vegas are one step closer to having NBA teams. The league’s board of governors voted Wednesday to approve a plan that will allow NBA officials to “formally explore potential team expansion” to those two cities, which have long been thought of as the front-runners to land franchises. “Today’s vote reflects our Board’s interest in exploring potential expansion to Las Vegas and Seattle — two markets with a long history of support for NBA basketball,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. “We look forward to taking this next step and engaging with interested parties.” Silver will hold a news conference later Wednesday to discuss next steps. The league said investment bank PJT Partners has been brought on “as a strategic adviser to evaluate prospective markets, ownership groups, arena infrastructure, and the broader economic implications of expansion.” Expansion isn’t a done deal. But it’s not just a dream anymore, either. New Orleans guard Dejounte Murray was 11 years old when Seattle last had an NBA team. He grew up with hopes …

Zach Braff details ‘cringe’ encounter with Michael Fassbender in Vegas nightclub

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Zach Braff has recalled a recent encounter at a Las Vegas nightclub in which Michael Fassbender destroyed his ego by mistaking him for Dax Shepard. The Scrubs star, 50, aptly told the disheartening story on Shephard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “I was grabbed by the shoulders by Michael Fassbender,” Braff recounted of their recent interaction, adding that before he could say anything, the “very handsome” Oscar-nominated 12 Years a Slave star said, “‘I love you.’ I go, ‘Oh my God.’ He goes, ‘I love your work. I love everything that you do… The s*** you make is f***ing awesome. I wish we could work together.’” The praise initially left Braff feeling confident. “My ego is like here,” he said. At the time, the actor was with his Scrubs co-star Donald Faison, who he remembered was watching him proudly. “And then [Fassbender] goes, …

What to Do in Vegas If You’re Here for Business (2026)

What to Do in Vegas If You’re Here for Business (2026)

Courtesy of PublicUs 1126 E Fremont St., (702) 331-5500 Vegas has a really good homegrown coffee scene, and this airy, spacious cafe in the Arts District is my favorite local spot for breakfast, espresso drinks, filter coffee, and an hour of getting shit down on my computer. The brekkie sandwich at PublicUs is delicious, the Loco Moco is as good as any I’ve had on the mainland, the vegan patty melt hits the spot, and all the drinks—including teas from Song Tea and mochas made using Askinosie chocolate—are some of the best in Vegas. Go once or go often, and become a regular during your stay. Inside The Wynn My favorite place to laptop at the Wynn, this spot is an outpost from the decidedly old-school health food brand Urth Caffe, originally founded in Los Angeles in the late 1980s. I like the breakfast burrito here, and the acai bowl, and the coffee is always hot and fresh and not too involved. There’s ample room here for laptopping, stretching out, and working, and the people …

Uber May Soon Let You Book a Zoox Robotaxi in Las Vegas and LA

No steering wheel, no pedals, no problem. Zoox announced Wednesday that it’s partnering with Uber to make its robotaxis available on the ride-hailing company’s app in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, pending US government approval. The multiyear partnership, announced by Zoox and Uber on Wednesday, would enable Uber customers to get rides on Zoox robotaxis in Vegas this summer and in LA in 2027. After the partnership launches, the app will match riders with robotaxis on eligible trips, Uber said in a statement. Zoox will also offer rides on its robotaxis through its own app, so customers can use either the Uber or Zoox app to ride in the vehicles. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi called Zoox an “ideal partner” in a statement. “The Zoox robotaxi is unlike any other vehicle on the planet — it was purpose-built from the ground up to deliver an extraordinary experience,” Khosrowshahi said. “Zoox’s commitment to safety and their advanced autonomous driving technology make them an ideal partner. We’re thrilled to work together to introduce more riders to the future of …

Steaks, sushi and the softer side of Vegas

Steaks, sushi and the softer side of Vegas

There’s something about Las Vegas. Its glamour, abundance and sheer scale — a true concrete jungle — can be loved or hated depending on who you ask. But one thing is undeniable: everyone can have a good time in Las Vegas, whether that means catching a show, enjoying nature, indulging in a spa day or settling in for an unforgettable meal. I spent a week in the city while attending SEMA, the massive automotive trade show that takes over the Strip each year. Between work obligations, I made it my mission to explore some of the restaurants, hotels and experiences that make Vegas such a playground for indulgence — from perfectly cooked steaks and inventive contemporary Indian dishes to standout sushi counters, lavish brunches and a few well-earned spa escapes along the way. Where to stay The Cosmopolitan — One of the few hotels on the Las Vegas Strip with balconies, The Cosmopolitan was positively buzzing when I arrived. Body-themed art hangs throughout the property, some far more risqué than I expected, much to my …
