The Met Office has forecast rain to hit 21 areas on Tuesday as weather maps show the UK’s heatwave coming to an end. Temperatures peaked last week, with parts of the nation experiencing some of up to 37C. However, it now appears conditions are set to do a U-turn, with forecasts showing there will be no more signs of extreme heat but instead rainfall. The weather agency warns that showers will begin tonight across the northwest, bringing in strong winds, before the showers progress tomorrow across the rest of the nation. The Met Office map shows showers across most of the UK, with the southeast just about escaping the rain. Showers will dominate across Scotland, with Glasgow and the Scottish Borders included in the areas expected to receive heavier rain. The north and west of the UK will be the worst hit, while the southeast of England set to remain largely dry with some warm weather. The weather will start to turn on Monday, with the risk of some showers moving north and eastwards, and some low cloud and coastal fog developing across southwest England. Cloud will increase through Monday evening and overnight, with showery rain forecast in the north and west at times. On Tuesday, the weather agency forecast patchy rain in the north and west of the UK, before turning into heavy rain through the evening. Weather maps show a large band of rain hitting South Wales at around 10.30am, and the whole country looks to be covered in rain by 5.30pm. By around 8.30pm, the centre of England will be drenched, stretching from Greater London up to Cumbria. Showers will hang over Scotland, according to the maps. Fresh weather maps show a sweeping band of snow stretching over 600 miles from northern Scotland down to the south coast of England overnight between March 4 and March 5. Maps from forecaster WXCharts show a north-to-south corridor of wintry showers running from around Aberdeenshire through the Midlands and into parts of the South West. Measuring from the northernmost significant accumulations near Aberdeenshire down through the spine of Britain to Devon and the south coast, the snowy stretch spans around 650 miles. While not continuous everywhere, the wintry corridor runs in a broad arc across much of mainland Britain. The snow depth chart shows 20 counties with measurable snow cover. The most affected parts will, as usual, be in Scotland, particularly in central parts. The ECMWF chart shows depths up to 52cm, slightly north-west of Dundee and west of Aberdeen. More surprisingly, snow is also shown further south across parts of the West Midlands, Devon and even Hampshire, where lighter coverings of around 1–2cm appear on the map.
