Wetherspoons has confirmed that one of its UK pubs will close for several weeks whilst it undergoes a major revamp. The Samuel Peto in Folkestone, Kent, will be closed for seven weeks whilst the pub undergoes extensive refurbishment, costing more than £550,000. The venue, which first opened in 1998 inside a Baptist church, still has many of the building’s original features. Now, JD Wetherspoons has confirmed that it will be closed between May 26 and July 16, as it needs major upgrades to refresh the interior and exterior. The new works include the installation of a brand new lobby and bar area, replacement of carpets, ceiling repairs, and redecoration of the building’s exterior, including updated signage, reports Kent Online. According to the planning application documents submitted in January and then approved in March, the venue’s “tea stain” finish will be changed into a modern single block paint scheme, and one of the two “Freehouse” signs will be replaced with a new “Wetherspoon” branding.
