William Shatner and Neil deGrasse Tyson regaled an enthusiastic crowd with stories of everything from our understanding quantum physics to Shatner‘s space flight to the meaning of the universe on Wednesday night during a conversation dubbed “The Universe Is Absurd!” at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills. The event was actually the second of a two-night event wherein the close friends ribbed each other and shared personal anecdotes of their adventures together, including their 2024 trip to Antarctica, where they first met. The audience may have even learned a few things about astrophysics along the way. (“The electron is so small, we do not know how small it is,” Tyson shared. “Every measurement of the electron is smaller than our attempts to measure it. As far as we’re concerned, it’s infinitesimally small.”) The topic of Shatner’s age (95 years) came up quite often. Star Trek actor William Shatner, 95, recently shared an emotional message amid his birthday celebrations over the weekend.  The actor appeared in a new video urging people to look after their animals “before it’s too late.” The video took place in his home where he spoke of his special relationship with PETA.  “I just want to say that PETA is terrific. The animals that took millions of years, in some cases, billions of years, to evolve and be part of the environment, they’re dying because of man,” said William.  “It’s tragic. William impressively lost 50 pounds after undergoing hip replacement surgery. He heavily credits his dramatic transformation to making a change in his eating habits, including incorporating more fiber into his diet. William Shatner had a fascinating response to Stephen Miller‘s suggestion that the star’s insight was needed to improve the Star Trek franchise. Last week, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy shared a post from the X account End Wokeness that featured a viral clip of new series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The clip showed castmembers Tricia Black (playing Lt. Rork), Gina Yashere (Lura Thok) and Holly Hunter (Nahla Ake), and the End Wokeness post added the message, “Star Trek 2026… Beyond parody…,” seemingly reflecting unhappiness over the performers’ looks. Miller wrote, “Tragic. But it’s not too late for @paramountplus to save the franchise.
