Following the casting of Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler in the lead roles for Ryan Coogler’s new The X-Files reboot, a host of other cast members have now been announced. Amongst those joining the series in currently unknown, new roles, will be Amy Madigan, who recently won an Oscar for her role in Weapons, along with Reservoir Dogs legend Steve Buscemi. Other additions to the cast include Ben Foster (Christy), Devery Jacobs (Echo), Lochlyn Munro (Peacemaker), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon), Joel D Montgrand (True Detective) and Sofia Grace Clifton (The Muppets Mayhem). Patel and Deadwyler will be playing two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents, who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena. ‘The X-Files’ Casts Himesh Patel to Star in Ryan Coogler’s Reboot

Hulu‘s The X-Files reboot has found its second co-lead. Himesh Patel (The Franchise, Yesterday) has been cast in writer-director Ryan Coogler‘s revival of the classic Fox series. Patel will join the previously announced Danielle Deadwyler as one of two FBI agents tasked with investigating paranormal activity. The Sinners filmmaker will both write and direct the pilot, which has been officially greenlit. Both Patel and Deadwyler are playing new characters — so this is not Fox Mulder and Dana Scully being recast. Original series star Gillian Anderson hinted she might appear in the project, saying she’s read Coogler’s script, telling a reporter, “Have an open mind and give it a chance because it’s going to be fucking cool.” The new show’s official description: “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.” This logline is slightly different from the premise of Fox’s original, which debuted in 1993 and ran for nine seasons and spawned two movies. Add The X-Files to your watchlist Nostalgia for the 1990s is currently a potent fuel, and news that plans for a revival of The X-Files are solidifying has excited fans who have elevated FBI agents Mulder and Scully to the realms of the mythic. But glance at any early episode of the hit sci-fi drama about investigations into the otherworldly and it soon becomes clear just how much of a product of its time it is. Aesthetically, it’s undeniable. Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) conducts research not on Google, but by whizzing through a blur of microfiche. When her partner Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) frets about being under surveillance, it isn’t CCTV that concerns him, rather a bug on his landline phone. Photos are developed in darkrooms, not uploaded to Instagram. And evidence mounts in manila folders not online forums. But nothing dates the series so much as its slogan: The Truth is Out There.
