Snap has announced a new partnership between its AR-glasses focused subsidiary, Specs, and chipmaker Qualcomm, as the company revs up for the release of its wearable later this year. The Snapchat creator has been teasing the release of the glasses—dubbed Spectacles, or merely Specs—for a long time and, earlier this year, it spun off a new company to specifically focus on the business venture. In February, the company abruptly parted ways with Scott Myers, its SVP of Specs, over a reported “blow-up” between himself and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel. The newly announced partnership with Qualcomm shows signs of life for the project. Specs will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR platforms, which are its systems-on-a-chip designed to power augmented and virtual reality devices, a press release states. So when the strike team trailed Lt. Col. Ali Ashaal into this quiet neighborhood on the western edge of Aden, they were ready. A Toyota Voxy minivan with tinted windows slid behind Ashaal’s SUV, then gave a burst of speed to zoom ahead and block his path. The gunmen sprinted out, guns at the ready, before their car fully stopped. They grabbed Ashaal — he appeared too surprised to resist — and shoved him into the Voxy while another jumped behind the wheel of his SUV. A moment later, both vehicles drove off at a stately pace, as if nothing had happened. The whole thing was done in 30 seconds. A convicted robber who absconded from prison is being sought by police. Scott Warner, 37, was reported missing to police after being absent from a roll call at HMP Hollesley Bay. He was serving a sentence of four years and seven months for robbery and other offences when he absconded from the open prison in Suffolk. Warner, who has links to Essex, is described as white, around 6ft 3in tall, of stocky build, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Members of the public are advised not to approach him and should call police on 999 immediately if they see him. HMP Hollesley Bay is a Category D open prison. In these facilities, detainees are typically allowed to spend most of their day off-site for work, education or for other resettlement purposes. Source link
