Netflix has a reputation for high-stakes, binge-worthy thrillers that often top global viewing charts, and it looks like another one is coming to screens this summer.
The upcoming sci-fi thriller, The Last House, follows a family of four suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out. The family must work together to survive their dwindling resources and the looming threat keeping them trapped.
The film, directed by Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me, Lupin), stars Greta Lee (A House of Dynamite, Past Lives) and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent, Narcos) as heads of the family, Ann and Jason.
Announcing the release date, Netflix encouraged viewers to “cancel your plans and stay in – by choice” on 7 August, when The Last House begins streaming.

What is The Last House about?
The film follows a family who are suddenly sealed into their home with no way out.
The synopsis (via Tudum) continues: “If that doesn’t sound nightmarish enough, their resources are running thin, and they must work together to survive not only a lack of essentials but also the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped inside.”
According to director Louis, the twisty film “challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity.”
He told Tudum: “This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”
Who else stars in The Last House?
Starring alongside Greta and Wagner in the film are Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Emma Ho (The Baker), Noah Alexander Sosnowski (Section 8) and Gabriel Barbosa (May December).
The Last House arrives on Netflix on 7 August.
