Bridgerton’s Season 4 Coming Out Scene Is ‘Hugely Important’, Says Showrunner

Bridgerton’s Season 4 Coming Out Scene Is ‘Hugely Important’, Says Showrunner

The latest season of Bridgerton has received widespread praise for its touching coming out scene, which sees Benedict opening up to Sophie about his sexuality. Luke Thompson’s character was confirmed to be queer during the show’s third run, where he was seen engaging in trysts with both men and women. Benedict is Bridgerton’s first openly queer lead character, and his coming out scene took the show’s writers into new territory. “I am capable of caring for you, just as I have cared for women I have known who are of the Ton,” he told Yerin Ha’s character, Sophie, in season four’s sixth episode, which premiered on Netflix last week. “Just as I have cared for some men whom I have known intimately,” he added. “And I refuse to be at all ashamed about that.” Since the episode’s release, showrunner Jess Brownell has explained why it was “hugely important” to her that this scene be included. “I think any queer person knows that no matter who you end up with, queerness is a part of your …

Luke Thompson Spills All on ‘Bridgerton,’ Benedict and Season 4

For Luke Thompson, the most challenging part of leading a Bridgerton series hasn’t been the shoot, the intimate scenes, the fan reaction, or any regency era-shaped restraint you can think of. What has had the Brit doing mental gymnastics — his words — is the press tour. “This sounds glib, but the actual doing of the show has been really easy,” says Thompson, basking in the setting sun of season four, following Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek’s Cinderella love story, the final parts of which released on Netflix Thursday. “When you’re so held by a production, and you’re dealing with some of the best people in streaming and in TV,” he adds, “you can afford to just let yourself go to it. I loved leading it.” People had warned Thompson to be careful. They said that he might “disappear” at the helm as the second Bridgerton son, that taking the weight would be “this huge burden.” In the end, the experience has been anything but: “It’s a huge gift to be able to lead a show, and …

Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha Say Their ‘Not Thirst Trap Puppets’

Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha Say Their ‘Not Thirst Trap Puppets’

[This story contains major spoilers from Bridgerton season four, Part 2.] Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) may have finally found their happily ever after in Bridgerton season four, but it wasn’t without plenty of hurdles and setbacks that come with any fairytale story. In Part 2 alone, while also trying to figure out how to make their relationship work within society — as Sophie is a maid and Benedict is a nobleman — Sophie is also dealing with Araminta’s (Katie Leung) vendetta against her, trying to throw her in prison forever, and Benedict is contemplating leaving his family and society so he can be with his one true love. But thanks to Lady Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masterful plan, Benedict and Sophie make it down the aisle legally (if you caught that post-credits scene) by the end, along with a few highly anticipated spicy scenes along the way. Thompson tells The Hollywood Reporter that it was important for them to “deliver something real” for Benedict and Sophie’s intimate scenes, “because we’re not thirst trap puppets.” …
