Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen made a rare public appearance in New York City on Thursday, and proved they are just as stylish as ever in matching black looks.
The 39-year-old twins looked incredible as they walked through Midtown Manhattan, with Mary-Kate dressed in a long black trench coat, black pants, a white scarf and sunglasses while her sister sported blue jeans, a mid-length black coat, a black scarf and sunglasses.
The former wore her blonde hair down in beachy waves, as the latter kept her brunette tresses tucked into her coat. They both arrived carrying crocodile leather handbags and walked to their lunch date with a rare smile.
Mary-Kate and Ashley rarely appear in public anymore, since retiring from their acting careers in 2012. Together, they established their fashion label The Row in 2005, which has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds in recent years and has been worn by the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Hailey Bieber and Dakota Johnson.
The former child stars even won the American Accessory Designer of the Year Award in November at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards, pointing to their continued success in the industry. “I don’t know how conscious we were of what we were doing at that time, to be really honest,” Ashley explained to I-D in 2021 about their decision to start the label.
“We had just moved to New York. We were 18 years old, and I think what we did know was that we wanted to take that time to take a break from what we were previously doing and to explore things that interested us, and explore what life has to offer.“
“We didn’t want to be in front of it,” she added. “We didn’t necessarily even want to let people know it was us. It was really about the product, to the point where we were like, ‘Who could we get to front this so that we don’t have to?‘“

Mary-Kate and Ashley grew up onscreen, first with the hit ’90s show Full House and later with a string of films built around their brand, including Passport to Paris, New York Minute, and Our Lips Are Sealed. The duo recently made headlines after their Full House co-star, Jodie Sweetin, revealed that they no longer keep in touch with the cast.
“I think after Full House and growing up and everything, they’ve had an extremely different trajectory than any of the rest of us,” Jodie said on The McBride Rewind podcast. “People say, ‘Oh, well, do you guys not talk? Is it bad?‘ No, they were eight years old when the show finished. We weren’t as close as we were. I didn’t see them all the time.“
“It wasn’t like there was bad blood between any of us,” she continued, “but they moved to New York and then got married and were [a] fashion empire and moved into that world. It was, like, we just sort of drifted apart.“
Despite the distance, Jodie recalled their shared childhoods and how they would play together as young girls. Jodie, who portrayed Stephanie Tanner, was five when the show first began, while the twins, who played Michelle Tanner, were six months old.
“I loved them,” Jodie said. “I would go to their room and hang out and play with them. I loved being the older one, like, ‘Let’s be friends.‘ They would come spend the night at my house. They’d come to my cabin on the weekends with my parents and I. We’d go horseback riding. We’d go to Disneyland.“
