Box was found at roadside in cold and pouring rain – people were shocked to look inside

Tiny puppies were found abandoned in a plastic box left on the roadside in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The four puppies, believed to be around six weeks old, were found by passers-by in the pouring rain and cold conditions on Llanharry Road between the villages of Llanharan and Llanharry on Sunday, January 11.

It’s not known how long the puppies were left alone and exposed to the elements. The passers-by who found the puppies took them home to warm up and dry off before taking them to the nearby Hope Rescue centre.

As well as looking after the young dogs, the rescue centre is now urgently appealing for information about how the puppies came to be dumped.

Katie Bull, centre manager at Hope Rescue, said the puppies had been checked over by vets and appeared to be ok health-wise.

They are thought to be young terriers.

They have also been vaccinated and received flea and worming treatments. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter here

“All of the puppies have been moved into one of our experienced foster homes and will stay there while we wait for the stray abandonment period to end, which lasts a week,” Katie said.

There has been a huge response to the rescue centre’s appeal for information online, but no more information has been learned as to how the puppies came to be dumped, or where their mum could be.

Katie added that there had already been interest in the puppies and anticipated the centre would receive a lot of adoption applications for them.

“We’ve got to wait as they’re not quite old enough so they won’t be ready yet, but we have plenty of other dogs on our website that have been abandoned and are still waiting to find homes,” she said.

If you have any information about how these puppies came to be dumped, please contact Hope Rescue on 01443 226659 or email enquiries@hoperescue.org.uk.
