Daniel Sikkema, the estranged husband of murdered New York art dealer Brent Sikkema, was found guilty Friday in a Manhattan federal court, according to the Wall Street Journal. Daniel Sikkema faced charges tied to a murder-for-hire plot that prosecutors said led to the dealer’s killing at his vacation home in Rio de Janeiro in 2024.  The case has gripped the art world since Brent Sikkema, the founder of the Chelsea gallery then known as Sikkema Jenkins & Co., was found stabbed to death in Brazil at age 75. Prosecutors argued that Daniel Sikkema orchestrated the killing from New York amid a bitter divorce and custody dispute involving the couple’s son. Fine particulate matter from wildfires is associated with a rise in mental health emergencies among children and teenagers, according to a recent multi-country analysis. The researchers observed that emergency department visits for conditions like anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia increased after days with higher wildfire smoke exposure. These results were detailed in a paper published in Nature Mental Health. Fine particulate matter consists of microscopic droplets and bits of ash suspended in the air. These particles are incredibly small, measuring about thirty times smaller than the width of a single human hair. Because of their tiny size, they can be inhaled deeply into the lungs and easily pass into the bloodstream. Children and teenagers are uniquely vulnerable to this type of air pollution. Young people breathe a higher volume of air relative to their body size compared to adults. They also have less efficient bodily systems for detoxifying harmful chemicals, and their rapidly developing brains are highly sensitive to environmental stressors. Pizza Hut’s Summer 2026 Book It program opened for enrollment on May 1st and will officially kick off June 1st. The much-beloved reading challenge rewards pre-K through 6th-grade readers with personal pan pizzas for reaching their parent-set reading goals. Kids can earn one pizza per month for June, July, and August if they meet their reading goals for 15 days of each of those months, with the goal ranging from 20 minutes to 50 minutes per day, depending on what the parents have decided. Setting goals, marking them complete, and redeeming the reward certificates all happen through the Book It App, and parents can manage multiple children under their account. (Note that the number of free pizzas per household is capped at five per month.) Begun in 1984 (right when this writer was in prime summer reading challenge years), the Book It program reaches more than 14 million children per year. The paper was published in Humanities and Social Sciences Communications. Virtual agents are computer-based systems that can interact with people or digital environments in a partly independent way. Some appear as simple chat windows, while others feature a voice, an animated character, or a specific role inside a digital game or virtual world. These systems use artificial intelligence to interpret text, speech, or other data to choose responses that fit a user’s request. Ever since President Trump started playing armchair museum curator last year, the White House has employed a number of strategies to try to influence exhibitions at the Smithsonian. It has sent threatening letters, published a memo that reads like an exhibit hit list, and even resorted to an occasional bit of online trolling. The Smithsonian has certainly undergone a small number of changes as a result of the pressure, but compared with, say, the Kennedy Center and the National Endowment for the Humanities, it has shown that it is not so easily breached. Yesterday, however, House Republicans appeared poised to push forward a different strategy on behalf of the president: bake Trump’s influence into a Smithsonian museum before it’s even built. Their target, the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum Act, was originally simple. It permitted the transfer of land on the National Mall to the Smithsonian for construction, and it had more than 200 bipartisan co-sponsors. But in March, GOP lawmakers added an amendment giving Trump final authority over the museum’s location and prohibiting the …
