Demi Moore shocked fans when she swapped out her usual waist-length brunette locks for a chic bob on the Cannes red carpet, following a clean sweep of incredible looks at the iconic film festival.
The 63-year-old attended the La Bola Negra premiere on Thursday alongside actress Penelope Cruz, who has a supporting role in the film. Demi turned heads as soon as she stepped on the red carpet, clad in a strapless electric blue dress with oversized ruffling around the hips and a dramatic train, courtesy of Self Portrait.
She accessorized with an eye-catching diamond necklace, yet the star of the show was her newly shortened hair, which was styled in curls that fell to her shoulders. It was a far cry from Demi’s famously lengthy, pin-straight locks, and proved that the mother of three was ready to change things up.
Han Chong, the Founder and Creative Director of Self-Portrait, shared his vision for Demi’s bold blue gown in a statement. “Working on this special gown with Demi Moore for Cannes is our statement on what the red carpet can look like today,” he said.
“To see our design sharing the global spotlight at this level hits at the core of our purpose at self-portrait, which has always been to make exceptional design accessible to as many people as possible.“
Han continued: “For me, this moment serves as proof that you can stay honest to your roots while still creating high-fashion magic on one of the world’s most recognized stages.“
“I hope this encourages our industry to think a bit differently when it comes to moments like these so that we can open up the doors to more creatives from all corners. I am so grateful to Demi and her team for their inclusive vision.“

Demi is famously protective of her lengthy hair and takes care of it by avoiding heat stress and by using high-end products. “I’m protective of the length, so it’s about health over inches,” she told People. “When I am not working, I keep styling minimal and heat low. And, with long hair, conditioning is essential.“
“It feels most like me,” she said of the length. “Being able to change my look with wigs and pieces feeds my need for change, but at the end of the day, I love taking it down, seeing my hair fall past my waist. It’s like coming home.” Shaving her head for the 1997 film G.I. Jane “probably was the most illuminating experience and one that deepened my appreciation for my hair,” as she told the publication.
Demi sits on the prestigious jury for the Cannes Film Festival, a role that she was “tremendously honored” by.
“It’s such a beautiful experience, and one just to be surrounded by cinema and the love of cinema, and the joy of diving in and being surrounded by those who share that is just – I just felt like a joy,” she said during a press conference.
“And who can complain about the beautiful view of this incredible place? But yes, I just feel tremendously honored, and I’m super excited. I really – I feel like a little kid getting to play a grown-up.“
