For Samsung users, the debate between Google Pay and Samsung Wallet has long been a wash. If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone, it is highly likely that you, like me, have both Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet installed, but typically use Google Pay just for convenience and its universal feel.

That could be about to change for good, thanks to a new feature Samsung announced, which fixes the biggest headache I’ve had with Google for a long time. I’ve tried it out, and it might be the thing that finally makes me switch from Google to Samsung Wallet permanently.

What is Samsung’s new “Trips” feature?

Trips is a brand-new feature in Samsung Wallet designed to help Samsung Galaxy users organize and manage travel-related experiences in one place.

Instead of searching through a stack of digital cards or trawling your email inbox to find the right confirmation, “Trips” aggregates your boarding passes, hotel reservations, and car rental details into a single, chronological view. It offers key travel information exactly when you need it by tracking your flight in real-time and surfacing the right document at the moment it thinks you’ll need it. You simply pull out your phone, and it’s there for you.

Why Samsung’s “Trips” specifically convinced me to switch

I travel frequently for work, and my Google Wallet is cluttered with boarding passes, tickets, and expired cards I haven’t used in years. Adding things to Google Wallet for “ease” is often a multistep process, and even the “Add to Google Wallet” button is deceptively tedious. Samsung’s new “Trips” feature allows for more seamless automation and a level of control that really appeals to my travel style. I love how it has a memos section where I can type anything, from Airbnb gate codes to parking spot numbers, directly into my travel timeline.

While Google Wallet is a simple vertical stack, Samsung’s timeline view means I don’t have to think or scroll desperately to find what I want anymore. I pull out my Samsung Galaxy S26, and it’s right there for me.

Samsung Wallet vs. Google Wallet: which do people actually use?

While Samsung dominates the hardware market, the software side is a different story. According to data from PaySpace Magazine, Google Wallet maintains a wider lead globally because it isn’t restricted to a single manufacturer. While both platforms boast a massive user base of roughly 150 million active users each, the disparity in transaction volume is staggering: Google Pay facilitates approximately 66 billion transactions per year, compared to Samsung Pay’s 1.6 billion.

This suggests that the vast majority of Samsung users are still opting for Google Pay despite Samsung Wallet being installed by default. While you have to head to the Play Store to download Google Wallet, its universal nature clearly keeps users coming back.
