BYD installed 10,000 hyper-fast 1,500kW chargers in just 5 months

BYD Da Han flagship sedan (Source: Lu Tian/BYD) BYD announced that it has already installed 10,000 of its 1.5 megawatt “flash charging” stations, despite only starting earlier this year. The number puts it halfway to its lofty goal of 20,000 stations by year’s end – and just about on pace to hit it. The electric vehicle industry in China is advancing at a rapid pace, and one of the things that China is leading on is fast charging. Manufacturers outside of China have offered cars that can charge in as fast as 18 minutes, which is still plenty quick, especially if you’re going to grab a bite to eat or go to the bathroom or something while stopped. Mercedes has an upcoming car that can charge in 11 minutes, but it’s going to b expensive. Meanwhile in China, they’re starting to talk about seconds, not minutes. The fastest-charging consumer brand (Geely) says it can charge from 10-70% in 4 minutes and 22 seconds, and CATL says it has a battery in the works that will …

BYD’s new 1500kW ‘flash charger’ is over 3x faster than anything US has

BYD unveiled its rumored 1,500kW charging station today, with the capability of charging two cars simultaneously at a rate much faster than we’ve seen elsewhere in the world. But this time, the company is planning to expand installation of its ‘flash chargers’ outside of China, too. Last week we brought you rumors of BYD’s upcoming charger announcement, along with an announcement of a new version of its “blade battery” (which was also officially announced this morning). Now BYD has unveiled the juicy details of its plans for this mega-fast charging system and how customers will get access to it. The 1,500kW system is 50% faster than BYD’s 1,000kW charger unveiled last year, not that that was any slouch to begin with. The fastest chargers you’ll find in the US and Europe are usually in the 250kW-350kW range, and still many sites are limited to 150kW. BYD to unveil 1,500kW EV charger that can add 2km of range in 1 second

BYD to unveil 1,500kW EV charger that can add 2km of range in 1 second

BYD will hold a press conference on March 5 unveiling several new versions of its technologies, including new batteries, ADAS software, and a 1,500kW charger that has already been spotted in the wild. The charger was spotted by Autohome, which also reported the upcoming press conference and some information on BYD’s announcements. You can see photos of the charger on their post. The photos show a charging station with overhead cables, hanging from a T-shaped structure. The intent is to allow cables to reach further so that various types of vehicles can be accommodated, but also stop the cables from being dropped on the ground, where they can be run over, get dirty or otherwise damaged. More interestingly, the label on the charging unit describes how much power its capable of pushing – and it’s quite a lot. The label was covered up, but whoever took the photos pulled away the cover to get a shot of what was underneath. Advertisement – scroll for more content It shows that this is a unit manufactured by …
