Via The Cradle Self-proclaimed Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has appointed Kurdish leader Mazloum Abdi as a presidential advisor, following the dissolution of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in an integration deal with Damascus earlier this week. “President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued Decree No. 164 of 2026 on Thursday, appointing Mustafa Khalil Abdi, known as Mazloum Abdi, as an advisor to the Presidency of the Republic,” state media SANA reported on 27 August. Abdi headed the SDF, an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that was created with US support in 2015 as part of the war to topple the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad. The SDF took control of large swathes of northeast Syria from ISIS, including the country’s main oil fields, as part of Washington’s efforts to keep Syria divided and prevent reconstruction by Assad’s government. Abdi and the SDF created an autonomous region that also included Sunni Arab majority areas taken from ISIS. FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s senior advisor has resigned in protest over his boss’s plan to seek private investment for the World Cup football tournament. Carlos Cordeiro said such a move would “mortgage football’s future.”His voice part of a growing opposition – which includes a potential boycott by Europe’s football associations – as well as CONCACAF – the governing body for football in North and Central America and the Asian Football confederation. As loneliness reaches record levels and more of our lives move online, people are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence for something more than information. AI is becoming a confidant, brainstorming partner, and sounding board for everything from career decisions to difficult conversations with spouses, friends, and family members. At its best, AI can help us think more clearly. The tech world argues that AI should be used as a thinking partner, not a replacement for human judgment. But this dynamic becomes more complicated in moments of emotional intensity. We are most likely to seek out advice when we are already distressed, uncertain, or hurt, and it is precisely in those moments that we become most vulnerable to influence. Research consistently shows an asymmetry in emotional experience: negative emotions tend to weigh more heavily than positive ones, often by a substantial margin. When we turn to AI in those negative moments, it enters in a powerful way. After all, it’s a system designed to respond helpfully—and often politely—so, it can easily become a yes-man, reinforcing our …

General Atlantic has tapped tennis legend Novak Djokovic to serve as a global strategic advisor, where, according to a press release, he “will work closely with the firm’s leadership, portfolio companies, and investors, bringing perspectives on leadership, resilience, and innovation that reflect General Atlantic’s commitment to excellence.” The news comes just days before Djokovic is set to play at Wimbledon, with his eyes set on a 25th Grand Slam title.  The partnership, in many ways, makes sense. Djokovic has invested in a handful of wellness companies, including Waterdrop in 2023, and co-founded his own supplement company, SILA, in 2024, followed by the clean snack food company Cob Foods in 2025. He also backed the wearables company Incrediwear. As reported by Bloomberg, General Atlantic hopes to leverage Djokovic’s network to gain further exposure to the health and wellness sector. At the same time, the firm is hoping to expand further into sports investing, having, over the past two years, taken stakes in a football club, a sports stadium, as well as a sports media agency. Former tech executive and VC Sriram Krishnan is leaving the Trump administration at the end of June. “It is hard to express how big a privilege it has been to serve the American people and how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to do so,” Krishnan said in a post on X. “First and foremost, it has been an honor to serve under President [Donald Trump]. Without his leadership, we would not be leading in the AI race.” Krishnan, who’s been serving as a senior policy advisor on artificial intelligence at the White House, was one of a number of tech industry figures to take roles in the second Trump administration.
