I asked a certified instructor if it was possible to do a reformer Pilates workout without a reformer—here’s what she suggests

To the uninitiated, the Pilates reformer’s combination of sliding carriage, slings, handles, bars and pulleys looks like the most complicated fitness contraption ever designed. To the initiated, it’s an incredibly effective way to develop strength and control, which explains its popularity. But unless you have the money and space to install one in your house, you’ll have to pay to visit a Pilates studio to use one. But Brittni Johnson, an NCPT Pilates instructor for wellness app BetterMe, says that you can replicate a reformer workout at home. Latest Videos From You may like She designed this short workout as an easy, at-home alternative, replacing the Reformer with sliders and resistance bands to mimic the reformer movements. “By introducing external tension, you move beyond basic mat exercises to engage the deep stabilizing muscles, improve joint decompression, and create the functional resistance needed to sculpt a lean, resilient physique,” says Johnson. If you don’t have any sliders available, you can use a towel on hard floors, or a paper plate on carpet. 1. Sliding reverse lunge …

Gen-Z Woman Asked How Enormous 80s Hair Stayed Perfectly Frozen. Gen-X Responded With 2 Words.

Recently, a new trend has emerged on TikTok: 20-something Gen-Zers who are obsessed with the 80s, and it’s not just about streaming The Breakfast Club and listening to some hot Kajagoogoo jams, either; many of these young women are full-on transforming themselves into the kind of looks that a lot of Gen-Xers might rather forget.  But one of these influencers, makeup artist and TikToker Rachel O’Cool, ran into a bit of a snag when it came to styling herself in the iconic and hilarious looks of the 1980s. And boy, did Gen-X women deliver with the solution. TikToker asked Gen-X women how to do 80s hair after trying everything to get the hilariously sky-high hairdos of the era O’Cool’s TikTok channel focuses on all things beauty and style, and one of her favorite looks to turn is the brightly-colored, shoulder pad-bedecked aesthetics of the 1980s. But in her quest to transform into the ultimate 80s woman, one thing eluded her: how to get those sky-high, frozen-in-place, crispier than a slice of burnt toast and bigger than a lion’s …

‘You can’t control everything’: the rise in plastic surgeons asked to create ‘AI face’ | AI (artificial intelligence)

‘You can’t control everything’: the rise in plastic surgeons asked to create ‘AI face’ | AI (artificial intelligence)

Plastic surgeons are increasingly concerned about the rise of “AI face”, as more and more clients arrive in their offices with unrealistic AI-generated visions of what they want to look like. Dr Nora Nugent, a cosmetic surgeon from Tunbridge Wells, has seen this first hand. Clients have started coming to her office with photos of themselves beautified by AI and a false expectation that those results are achievable with surgery. She is also the president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and says many colleagues are having similar experiences. “I can only predict an increase, given the rate AI has been incorporated into every aspect of life,” she said. People using AI chatbots to generate their ideal faces are increasingly arriving at surgeons’ offices with briefs demanding flawless skin, sharply sculpted cheekbones, refined noses and near-perfect symmetry – standards that are too time consuming, prohibitively expensive and, in many cases, physically unattainable. While AI can control every single pixel, “surgery certainly doesn’t work on that microscopic detailed level”, according Dr Alex Karidis, a …

Someone Asked Physicists What They Really Believe About the Universe and… Yikes

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech You’d hope that the world’s brightest scientific minds would more or less agree on the nature of our reality — but one of the largest physics surveys in history instead found that pretty much no one agrees on anything.  Published by the American Physical Society, the survey queried over 1,600 experts from disciplines ranging from astrophysics to particle physics, along with a chunk of respondents who identified as “science enthusiasts.” The results showed that there’re still quite a few strikingly differing opinions on the standard model of cosmology, the scientific culmination of our understanding of our physical world which describes the origins of our universe and how it functions on a grand scale today.  “I think the most surprising finding was the gap between the public perception of scientific consensus and what scientists actually said when asked,” coauthor of the survey Niayesh Afshordi at the University of Waterloo in Canada and the Perimeter Institute told Gizmodo. “Ideas often presented …

How JFK Jr. Asked Princess Diana to be on the Cover of George Magazine

In the end, John and Diana spent “a pleasant enough” hour or so together. “I remember he felt like it was more fun than he had expected in the royal meeting, a little more genuine,” Sasha said. “I think he liked her, put it that way.” And despite later rumors that the couple had an affair that was consummated at the Carlyle that day in a “moment of pure lust,” Patrick said he remained in the room the whole time. “I stayed in the room throughout and was not aware of any mad, passionate activities,” he said. “My observation was, it was a kind of mutual sounding‑out. It was a kind of appraisal, and it wasn’t overtly flirtatious, but it was friendly.” Prior to the meeting, Patrick and Diana had discussed how long to let the conversation go on. When it reached that point, Patrick interrupted, apologizing, and saying something like, “We’ve got to get ready for the next thing,” giving the princess an out. As John made his way back downstairs, Diana turned to …

Do you have sore hips? I asked a pain specialist why this happens and how to improve it

Hip soreness is a terribly common issue—it’s something that I certainly suffer with—so I’m always trying to get to the bottom of where this soreness originates from and what you can do about it. According to Dr Shady Hassan, MD, an interventional pain and sports medicine physician and the founder of NefraHealth, immobility is the root cause of this discomfort. “Most immobility comes from two extremes: sustained stillness and repetitive overuse,” Hassan tells Fit&Well. Latest Videos From You may like “For the average professional [desk worker], sitting for eight to 10 hours a day keeps the hip flexors in a shortened state. This is essentially a sitting penalty—the physical cost of a sedentary lifestyle.” As a sports medicine specialist, Hassan sees the other extreme too, athletes with hip pain stemming from overuse. “Soreness often stems from repetitive loading without adequate recovery, leading to micro-trauma in the labrum or surrounding tendons,” says Hassan. Additionally, “when the muscles around the joint—like the psoas or glutes—become imbalanced, the brain locks down the joint to protect it, which we …

Elderly People Asked About Their Favorite Age Prove Getting Older Is A Beautiful Process

While some embrace all of the changes that come with getting older, there are others who are deathly afraid of it and try anything and everything to resist it altogether. But the truth about getting older is a lot less scary when you actually talk to people who have been blessed with a long life In a video, a group of elderly residents at the Carrington Court Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Utah shared some of the beautiful things that they’ve experienced as they’ve aged. Their answers to a thoughtful question proved that getting older is a true blessing, no matter how scary the uncertainty of it may be. Double Murder Suspect Asked ChatGPT How to Hide Body in Dumpster

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Earlier this month, we got a glimpse of the harrowing conversations that Florida State University school shooting suspect Phoenix Ikner had with ChatGPT before his deadly massacre. Ikner asked the chatbot how to turn off the safety switch on his weapon, what ammo to use, and even where to find the most people to kill on the university’s campus — horrific queries highlighting how some are already using AI to plan and perpetrate unconscionable crimes. Now, prosecutors have revealed that the prime suspect in the murder of two University of South Florida doctoral students asked ChatGPT whether to hide a human body in a dumpster. “What happens if a human has a put [sic] in a black garbage bag and thrown in a dumpster,” 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh, who has since been charged with first-degree murder of Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy, asked the chatbot, as quoted by NBC News. After ChatGPT told him that it sounded dangerous, Abugharbieh …
