After a tumultuous week, which saw WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg ousted from his position as CEO of Automattic, WordPress.com’s parent company, by way of a board vote, the company has now issued a statement confirming that Mullenweg has returned to his position. “Matt Mullenweg is the chairman and CEO of Automattic, with full support of the board and if you search online you can see many top executives and Automatticians supporting him as well,” a company spokesperson shared with TechCrunch via email just after 5 PM ET on Saturday evening. (The mention of online support appears to refer to supportive posts on X that Mullenweg has been reposting from his X account.) Automattic’s board had voted earlier this week to put Mullenweg on a paid leave of absence for unknown reasons. A former attorney was convicted of attempted murder after officials in Ohio said he tried to carry out the “public execution” of his ex-wife in a Toledo restaurant last year. Matthew Exton, 43, tried to shoot her, but the gun’s safety was on, and a waiter tackled him before he could try again, the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release Friday. Exton was also convicted of two counts of felonious assault, with sentencing enhancements linked to all three charges, the prosecutor’s office said. Exton was acquitted of one count of assault. A North Tyneside man who attempted to murder his stepbrother was found hanged in his prison cell after suffering from Covid “anxiety”. In 2017, Brendan Teague was jailed for 18 years after stabbing his stepbrother in an attempted killing. Teague had tricked his way into the North Shields home of unsuspecting Anthony Teague before brutally plunging a knife into him. He stabbed Anthony three times in the back and, believing he had killed him, fled the scene. As previously reported on Chronicle Live, when police arrested Teague later that day, he expressed surprise and disappointment that his stepbrother wasn’t dead. He then told officers he would “do a better job next time”. After being sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court, Teague, who had a history of attempted suicide and self-harm, substance misuse and depression with panic attacks, was transferred to HMP Garth in Lancashire. A manhunt is underway after an attempted rape on a Tube train in London. British Transport Police (BTP) have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the alleged offence on Saturday (July 11). Police said a man approached a woman who was on her own on a Bakerloo Line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations at about 11.40pm. He exposed himself in front of her before dragging her to the floor and attempting to rape her. She fought him off and fled from the carriage at Lambeth North before alerting staff at the station. Police have released an image of a man they are looking to identify following an attempted rape on a London Tube train on Saturday night. The attack happened on a Bakerloo line train at around 11.40pm on July 11, according to British Transport Police. A man reportedly approached a lone woman on the train between Waterloo and Lambeth North station. He exposed himself to her before dragging her to the floor and trying to rape her. Fortunately, the woman was able to fight back and flee the train at Lambeth North, where she alerted station staff. The man then got off the train at Elephant and Castle.
