In a video shared on social media Saturday, Blanchett addressed the audience after the curtain call, asking anyone who had recorded the performance to put their phones away. “There are few places on this planet where we can simply be together and be present,” she says in the clip, still wearing her stage costume of a black T-shirt and baggy black trousers. “I understand you like filming the curtain call — and it is kind of flattering in a way — but for anyone who is filming the show, please don’t, because it spoils it for the next group of people who come in and are present with us. So thank you very much.” Her comments were met …

The Scottish band, which formed in 1996, had been due to perform at the Astor Theatre in the area on Thursday (17 September) as part of their 30th anniversary tour. But after the gig was cancelled “due to freight delays from the East Coast affecting critical equipment for the show”, frontman Stuart Murdoch posted on Facebook on Thursday asking fans to gather in Langley Park near the venue. “Hi guys, Stuart here. Sorry about the news below,” he wrote, attaching a screenshot of a map with a cross drawn over a specific spot. Question Time Audience Laugh At Reform’s Danny Kruger Over Crypto Cash Claim

Danny Kruger on Question Time. BBC A Reform MP was laughed at by the BBC Question Time audience after he insisted the crypto billionaires who gave the party £72 million will receive nothing in return. Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne donated £36m each to the party last weekend. Reform has been accused of planning to hand hundreds of millions of pounds of tax breaks for crypto investors if they win the next election. But on Question Time on Thursday, Kruger sparked incredulity by claiming Delo and Harborne would get nothing in return for their record-breaking donations. Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement To laughter from the audience, the former Tory MP said: “I think that it’s an admirable thing that these two men – who will get nothing for it, no peerage, no policy. They’re not getting anything for it. There’s absolutely nothing in it for them.” Reform leader Nigel Farage last week said he was “honoured and humbled” at the donation. “Both men know that we are the only party that can turn the country around and win …

Oprah Audience Calls For ‘Same Passion’ For Black Child-Killers As For Lindsay Clancy

Oprah Audience Calls For ‘Same Passion’ For Black Child-Killers As For Lindsay Clancy

Authored by Steve Watson via Modernity News, Oprah Winfrey flew into Massachusetts to host a “watershed” conversation about Lindsay Clancy. What the cameras captured was not a sombre conversation regarding her three dead children. It was a room brainwashed into treating a child-killer as a ideological cause – and then demand the same energy for black women who have murdered their kids. Yes really. The takeaway from this particular creepy corner of culture is no longer “killing your children is unthinkable.” Rather, it is “lets make sure we support child killers of color just as much as white child killers.” As we now know, Clancy strangled her three children – 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan – with exercise bands in the family basement on January 24, 2023, then cut herself and jumped from a second-story window. She has never denied the killings. Her defense argued postpartum psychosis and a lack of criminal responsibility. Prosecutors said the acts were planned. After 21 days of testimony and more than 80 witnesses, the jury hung. A …

Podcast mastery: How publishers can find an audience and make money from it

Podcast mastery: How publishers can find an audience and make money from it

Chris Stone, executive producer for podcasts and video at the New Statesman and founder of Podcast Crew. Picture: Submitted Publishers must identify a target audience and niche before launching a podcast, according to Chris Stone, executive producer for podcasts and video at The New Statesman. Stone, who also founded B2B marketplace Podcast Crew, said publishers should track relevant metrics and be prepared to hire at least one full-time podcast producer. Since Stone started at The New Statesman in 2020, he has overseen its transition to video podcasting. Since making the podcast the primary Youtube output for the publisher, subscribers on the platform have grown from 30,000 to 220,000, he said. When should you launch a podcast? “I’ll tell you when a publisher shouldn’t enter the podcast space, which is when they fancy doing a podcast because they think it’ll be cool,” said Stone, adding this risks it becoming a “hobby project”. When a publisher has enough trust and engagement with its audience, he added, a podcast is a “good asset” to introduce to drive paid …

Hulu’s best hitman drama is only 30 minutes long, and it has a 98% audience score

Hulu’s best hitman drama is only 30 minutes long, and it has a 98% audience score

I almost passed on Mr Inbetween because the runtime looked like a red flag. Every prestige crime drama I actually finish runs 50 minutes or more, like the still-making-news Breaking Bad and The Sopranos — shows that need the extra time to let a scene sit before it turns violent. Twenty-five minutes felt like a show that hadn’t put in the hours yet. It was a Sunday afternoon, I was bored, and I was scrolling Hulu for something I could bail on after 10 minutes if it didn’t hold up. The title card came up, and I checked Rotten Tomatoes out of habit, mostly to confirm I wasn’t wasting an afternoon. 95% from critics. 98% from audiences. I sat at that second number for a second — I couldn’t remember the last time I’d seen a show clear 90% with almost nobody I know having heard of it. Could it be another Hulu series few have heard of that was really good? Twenty-six episodes later, I understand completely. Ray Shoesmith doesn’t need an hour. He …

Knox, who was falsely imprisoned in 2009 for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher, performed her new show Cartwheel on Friday night following unsuccessful calls for it to be pulled from the line-up. Kercher, an exchange student from the University of Leeds, was killed aged 21 in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Knox was convicted in 2009, along with her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, of Kercher’s murder and sexual assault. She was released from prison in 2011 and cleared by Italy’s Supreme Court in 2015. The show’s title refers to a story that the now-39-year-old did cartwheels in the police station following Kercher’s death. New Business Insider CEO focused on monetising off-platform audience

Business Insider CEO Christian Baesler. Picture: Axel Springer Business Insider is set to begin monetising its non-website audience, which new CEO Christian Baesler said has not been done “in any meaningful way so far”. Baesler, who has been leading Business Insider on an interim basis since June and has now been appointed permanently, said the brand is entering its “next phase”, which is also centred on the “need to become essential for a number of professional niches”. He is bringing social media expertise from five years as president and CEO of former Hot Ones producer Complex and then just over a year as chief operating officer at Buzzfeed after its 2022 takeover. Visits to the Business Insider website in the US more than halved in the past two years to 30.9 million in June. Ten people were laid off in May at Axel Springer-owned Business Insider, its fourth round of layoffs in four years, as the newsroom scaled back in some coverage areas and refocused on others. Baesler told Press Gazette: “Historically, Business Insider has …
