BBC’s Jeremy Vine breaks silence on ‘shock and grief’ of Scott Mills’ axe

It’s been a tumultuous few months over at the BBC, which is still in “shock and grief” after the sacking of longtime BBC Radio 2 presenter Scott Mills, according to Jeremy Vine. Back in March, Scott, 53, was let go from the BBC, following allegations regarding his personal conduct. It transpired that the broadcaster had been previously questioned by the police over “sexual serious allegations” against a boy aged under 16, which occurred between 1997 and 2000. The case was dropped due to a lack of evidence. With many confused listeners still left wondering who could be taking Scott’s place, BBC Radio 2’s lunchtime host Jeremy Vine has broken his silence on the sacking of his former colleague, and revealed the words he sent to Scott after he found out the news. Further blow for Scott Mills after BBC misconduct allegations and axe

Further blow for Scott Mills after BBC misconduct allegations and axe

Scott Mills is facing another fresh blow after he was sacked by the BBC earlier this week. A plaque dedicating a service station bridge to the disgraced radio presenter Scott has been removed.  The sign was originally installed in 2016 following a light-hearted campaign with his then Radio 1 co-star Chris Stark, but a customer noticed it had disappeared on Thursday morning.  “I never really come to this service station but today I did and the plaque has been taken away,” the customer told The Sun. “I’m not surprised really.”  Welcome Break, which manages Fleet Services on the M3, reportedly took down the plaque following news of Scott’s dismissal.  © Dave Benett/WireImageScott Mills was sacked from the BBC last Friday Earlier this week, it was revealed that the BBC learned the police investigation into allegations of a historical sexual offence involved a person under 16.  The BBC confirmed it knew about the police investigation into Scott in 2017, but said it “acted decisively” after receiving “new information” in the weeks before his sacking.  © Mike …

Teacher training and development Experts slam ‘unreasonable’ short-notice cuts to trainee chemistry courses Experts slam ‘unreasonable’ short-notice cuts to trainee chemistry courses More from this theme Recent articles More top-up teacher training programmes have been cut at short notice following a ministerial budget squeeze. Providers were given under 24 hours’ notice of the government’s decision to axe free chemistry subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) courses last week. Officials have insisted the change was made to help target resources “where they are most needed” following a recruitment boom. ‘Real implications’ But Emma Hollis, chief executive of the National Association of School-Based Teacher Trainers (NASBTT), said: “We are very disappointed by the extremely short notice given for this change, particularly at a point in the academic year when providers are finalising plans for September recruitment. Emma Hollis “Decisions of this nature have real implications for providers and prospective trainees, and last-minute changes risk creating unnecessary disruption.” SKEs are designed to top up teacher trainees’ subject knowledge to help them reach the government’s minimum standard. They can be taken prior to …

Nazi-obsessed teenager described herself as ’embodiment of hell’ before launching axe attack | UK News

A Nazi-obsessed teenager who launched a far-right axe attack on a random stranger has pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Alina Burns, then aged 18, attacked Mohammed Mahmoodi, an Iranian Kurd, outside a barber’s shop in Bedminster, Bristol, on 2 August last year as he was chatting with a friend. CCTV from inside the shop showed the 27-year-old turning and ducking at the last minute as she swung an axe at his neck. The teenager then tried to strike Mr Mahmoodi again, before he managed to disarm her, escaping with only painful scratches to his neck and cheek. She was then detained by police officers who had been on patrol nearby. They found a scalpel and several darts on her. Image: The attack took place outside BHK Barbers in Bedminster, Bristol. When he asked her why, she said: “I wanted to cut his neck.” Police later discovered an email she had written to an associate, saying: …

Strictly Denies Fleur East And Janette Manrara ‘Axe’ Rumours

Amid widespread rumours about a shake-up ahead of this year’s season of Strictly, The Sun published a piece over the weekend claiming that the spin-off show’s presenters Janette Manrara and Fleur East were being “axed” in further changes to the franchise. However, a spokesperson for the show has now issued a statement to Metro refuting this version of events. “It is factually incorrect to claim that either [Janette or Fleur] has been ‘axed’,” they said, adding that “plans for Strictly Come Dancing 2026 will be confirmed in due course”. Janette was previously a Strictly pro for eight seasons before landing the role as host of It Takes Two in 2021. After two seasons co-hosting with Rylan Clark, he was replaced by former Strictly contestant Fleur. Karen told her Instagram followers over the weekend: “After 14 years on Strictly Come Dancing, I’ve decided this is the right time for me to close this chapter and take on new projects in other areas that I’m passionate about. “Strictly completely changed my life, not only as a performer …

More strikes ‘inevitable’ as trusts axe jobs to stay afloat

More from this theme Recent articles Ministers have been warned tensions are growing between unions and cash-strapped trusts, amid fears of job cuts to keep schools afloat. Dozens of schools have been rocked by strike announcements this week over planned restructures dubbed “neither fair nor sustainable”. But one multi-academy trust (MAT) chief emphasised he had already exhausted other cost-saving options, with academies struggling with falling rolls. Stephen Morales, Institute of School Business Leadership chief executive, warned: “If we continue to find ourselves in a tight fiscal environment, then it is inevitable that we’re going to see more of this.  Stephen Morales “You shouldn’t be surprised to see leaders make difficult decisions, and it’s inevitable disputes with unions will emerge.” Walk out by support staff Support staff in Unison will walk out next week at the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic MAT, affecting 14 schools in the east Midlands. The union claimed trust plans will see “pay significantly reduced” and “substantial reductions across key roles”, including teaching assistants, administrative staff and chaplaincy teams. Harry and Meghan face Netflix axe as insiders claim streamer is ‘done’ with couple | Royal | News

Netflix executives are reportedly “done” with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Hollywood insiders have claimed. The report paints a grim picture of the once-lucrative partnership between the streaming giant and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, suggesting their five-year deal has soured amid repeated retellings of their royal exit story, underwhelming ratings, and strained professional interactions. One Netflix source bluntly told Variety: “The mood in the building is ‘We’re done,’” claiming the couple’s perceived pattern of repackaging the same narrative — from their 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan onwards — has exhausted the streamer. The article, published amid fresh fallout from Netflix’s recent decision to divest from Meghan’s lifestyle brand As Ever, warns that the partnership “may continue to taper off, and with it will Meghan and Harry’s remaining showbusiness lifeline.” Insiders accused Archewell Productions of “poor communication” and described the couple’s “bedside manner” as having “ruffled feathers” in meetings. Critics labelled Meghan’s With Love, Meghan series “lacklustre,” with its second season reportedly “cratering” and further eroding confidence at Netflix. Explosive claims included allegations that …
