Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ Soccer Ball Sells for .3 M.

Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ Soccer Ball Sells for $3.3 M.

The soccer ball used in the 1986 World Cup match in which Diego Maradona scored his infamous “Hand of God” goal sold for $3.35 million at Heritage Auctions in Texas. The price, however, came in well below the lot’s presale estimate of $10 million. Mike Provenzale, an auctioneer at Heritage, told Reuters before the sale that the ball was “a true one-of-a-kind item” and “arguably the most significant soccer item that exists.” Maradona scored the goal against England in the quarterfinal in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium in what initially appeared to be a header. Slow-motion replays showed the Argentine striker using his hand to punch the ball past goalkeeper Peter Shilton, but the referee didn’t see the foul. After the game, Maradona told reporters that the goal had been scored “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.” Related Articles Four minutes later, with Argentina leading 1-0, Maradona scored again. This time there was no controversy. He dribbled past several England players before finding the net, and the goal was …

Patrick Ball Awards Chatter Interview About ‘The Pitt,’ Addiction

Patrick Ball, an actor who is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s top young stars, first burst onto the scene in 2025 with the debut of HBO Max’s emergency room-set drama series The Pitt, on which he plays Dr. Frank Langdon, a senior emergency medicine resident. Langdon works under senior attending physician Dr. “Robby,” who initially regards him as a protégé, but later loses faith in him upon learning that he has been stealing prescription painkillers from the hospital in order to work through a back injury. The show, which marks a reunion of ER star Noah Wyle, writer R. Scott Gemmill and showrunner John Wells, has found a large and loyal audience, garnered massive critical acclaim and last year, for its first season, was awarded five Emmys including best drama series. This year, for its second season, it has landed a field-leading 25 noms, including, in the category of best supporting actor in a drama series, one for Ball, who the TV Academy egregiously overlooked for his work on season one. Over the course of …

Paging Dr. Langdon: The Pitt’s Patrick Ball on Shipping, Stardom, and Season 3

Paging Dr. Langdon: The Pitt’s Patrick Ball on Shipping, Stardom, and Season 3

At this point, you’ve been playing Langdon for a relatively long time. Do you feel like you can read a script and say, “Oh, Langdon wouldn’t say that,” or, “I don’t think Langdon would do that”? I mean, not really. Again, coming from the theater, I come from a world where the script is wholly written. Tennessee Williams wrote what he wrote. And it is my job to interpret that. I think Samuel Beckett says every word is an interruption of an otherwise perfect silence, or something like that. [Editor’s note: In a 1969 Vogue interview, Beckett said, “Every word is like an unnecessary stain on silence and nothingness.”] Whatever the writers have me saying and doing, I meet them and follow them. And luckily they’re very good at what they do. I’m also wondering what it’s like working with Noah when he wears so many hats on this set. He’s your costar, but he’s also your executive producer, and sometimes your director and sometimes your writer. Is your relationship similar at all to Langdon …

A personal trainer shares his four favorite core exercises to do with a medicine ball

A personal trainer shares his four favorite core exercises to do with a medicine ball

Sit-ups and crunches have their place in core workouts, but doing them on repeat gets boring fast—and limits your results. Building functional core strength means training your body to do more than just crunch up and down; you need to challenge your muscles to twist, reach, and stabilize you from every angle. Certified personal trainer Matt Bandelier at Eden Health Clubs has created a medicine ball workout to do just that. Latest Videos FromFit&Well The four moves below will keep your core workouts interesting, while also challenging your muscles to adapt to new demands. 1. Medicine ball squeeze and press Med Ball Squeeze and Press – YouTube Watch On Sets: 3 Reps: 12-15 Rest: 45-60sec You may like Bandelier says this move forces your core to brace, resist extension, and compress at the same time. “By squeezing the ball in front of your chest and pressing it [out] while maintaining your stability, you [target] the deep transverse abdominis, rectus abdominis, and internal obliques more than with a standard press or curl. That midline bracing is …

An exercise physiologist says these are the three upper-body medicine ball exercises you should do to build functional strength

An exercise physiologist says these are the three upper-body medicine ball exercises you should do to build functional strength

You might have noticed a rack of weighted balls languishing in the corner of the gym, gathering dust while people work out with dumbbells and kettlebells instead. They’re called medicine balls and personally, I think they’re an underrated tool. I’ve been using them for a while, and they offer a challenge that other weights don’t. Karly Mendez, a human performance specialist, sports biomechanist and exercise physiologist at Houston’s largest healthcare system, Memorial Hermann, is a fan of the medicine ball too. Latest Videos FromFit&Well “Medicine balls are versatile because you can use them to train strength, power, coordination and stability with one piece of equipment,” she says. “Kettlebells or dumbbells are great, however, a medicine ball can help improve your balance and encourage you to move through multiple planes of motion to make sure you maintain control throughout the exercise.” You may like I find the medicine ball especially useful for upper-body work. Keeping the ball under control when lifting challenges your grip strength in a different way, the ball can also help provide an …

Norway coach convinced ball hit cable before England goal in quarter-final

Norway coach convinced ball hit cable before England goal in quarter-final

MIAMI, July 11 : Norway coach Stale Solbakken said he was convinced that the ball hit a camera cable above the pitch just before Jude Bellingham scored England’s equaliser in the first half of their World Cup quarter-final on Saturday. The incident happened when Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland made a clearance kick in stoppage time at the end of the half but the ball fell to an England player, starting the move that led to Bellingham’s first goal.  Solbakken pointed to the cables which support the mobile camera system above the playing surface when complaining to officials at the break but was told that the referee had not seen it and there had been no call from VAR. “The ball fell straight down from the sky, so it changed its direction,” Solbakken said in his post-match press conference after Norway’s 2-1 defeat after extra time.    “It caused a misunderstanding among our players, and it was in a bad moment for us. But we can’t do anything about that. I don’t think we will play the …
