Punch isn’t just for summer parties, and this Caribbean-inflected one, featuring rum, brandy, stout, lemon and nutmeg, will warm the cockles of a crowd on any autumn evening. It’s named after Prince Buster, the Jamaican ska legend and inspiration for our bar’s name. Buster’s stout punch Serves 20 250g demerara sugar, or cane sugar4 large unwaxed lemons900ml Jamaican dark rum, ideally a well-aged one – Myers’s or Planteray Original Dark for preference400ml VSOP cognac – we use Martell300ml Guinness – we use Guinness Foreign Extra Stout or Guinness West Indies PorterFreshly grated nutmeg, to garnish and to taste (optional) Put the sugar in a large bowl, then finely grate in the zest of all four lemons (use a Microplane, if you have one); save the rest of the fruit for later. Gently massage the lemon zest into the sugar, to release the oils, then pour in a litre of hot water from the kettle and stir to dissolve the sugar. Hickerson and his brother Zach were allegedly involved in an altercation at Wild Wing Cafe, and police were called after Brian Hickerson reportedly threw a bar stool. TMZ reports that Hickerson was ultimately released, but Zach was taken into custody for disorderly conduct. In footage of the incident, which is circulating on social media, Hickerson can be seen seated on the ground while officers from the Greenville Police Department cuff his hands behind his back. Google’s Pixel 11 continues to set the standard for what you should expect from the base model of a flagship phone with class-leading cameras, long software support and almost all the bells and whistles of its most expensive phones. The regular Pixel 11 costs £879 (€999/$899/A$1,499) making it £80 or equivalent more expensive than last year’s model as the cost of RAMageddon continues to bite. It’s not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but it comes with 256GB of storage and is £200 less than the Pixel 11 Pro, matching rival Samsung’s Galaxy S26. At a glance the Pixel 11 looks very similar to the previous two Google phone iterations: glass front and back with flat aluminium sides and large pill-shaped bar at the back, which is much slimmer this time. Review: It’s L.A.’s hottest bar. And a leap forward for drinking culture
From the week Vandell opened in early December, crowds have gathered outside its forest-green door and down its patch of Los Feliz sidewalk, waiting to join the civilized chaos inside. Is it the hottest bar in Los Angeles in 2026? Easily, and for excellent reasons. Vandell’s wood-paneled space — an anchor 30-foot bar and three small rooms, each distinctly decorated and lighted — sits among several pedestrian-friendly blocks of Hillhurst Avenue, where lines form reliably for cream-top coffee at Maru and brunch or dinner at nearly year-old Wilde’s. The location turned out to be optimum for a new blue-chip gathering place. Also optimal: the bar’s accessible, ground-level blueprint for success. Mini-martinis (all the rage), seasonal cocktails tinted the kinds of saturated colors you’d choose for a den accent wall, great cheeseburgers and a big bowl of snacky fries, a staff capable of staying calm and attentive when imbibers pack in four-deep around the black soapstone counter. Kerridge’s Bar & Grill at the Corinthia hotel will reopen on 5 September as two distinct spaces: a smaller, 57-cover restaurant called Kerridge’s and Georgie’s, a new, larger bar space. When the restaurant first opened in 2018, it had around 90 covers. The martini, evidently, has been doing well. Georgie’s is named after Kerridge’s Boxer, whose paw print was famously made in wet concrete during the building of the chef’s pub The Hand & Flowers in Marlow, and later became the logo of the brand. The new bar will carry that motif through the room while Steve – a full-size bronze figure by Kerridge’s wife Beth Cullen-Kerridge – survives the refurb too. The serious business is drinking. BenQ’s New iScreenBar is a Monitor Light Bar Made for the iMac
BenQ today announced the launch of the iScreenBar, which it says is the first monitor light bar built for the iMac. The iScreenBar is meant to look like an extension of the iMac, offering desk lighting that does not clash with the iMac’s design or block the camera or microphone. It’s made from aluminum and lights an area of 33.5 by 19.7 inches at 500 lux. A glass touch panel is available for adjustments, and there’s also a macOS app for tweaking brightness, color temperature, and light mode. It turns on and off using presence detection and can also activate when the iMac wakes, plus it dims or brightens as the lighting in the room changes. In video call mode, evens lighting and reduces glare on the face for a better image when the camera is in use. Crans-Montana bar owner detained over alleged domestic abuse
The owner of the Swiss bar ravaged by a deadly New Year fire is in pre-trial detention, accused of domestic abuse against his wife and co-owner of the establishment, media reported Sunday. French couple Jacques and Jessica Moretti have been the focus of intense scrutiny since the fire ripped though their bar Le Constellation, in the Crans-Montana ski resort in the early hours of January 1. The blaze killed 41 people, most of them teenagers, injuring 115 other people. The Morettis are among 16 people facing criminal investigation in the case. They face charges including manslaughter by negligence and arson by negligence over the fire. Jacques Moretti has now been arrested and detained following alleged violence against his wife earlier this month, local Geneva broadcaster Leman Bleu reported.
