Inside Zegna’s Afterparty at Bar Marmont With The Sparks Performance

Inside Zegna’s Afterparty at Bar Marmont With The Sparks Performance

After taking over Malibu Pier early Friday evening to present its summer 2027 runway presentation, Zegna brought the party to West Hollywood’s Bar Marmont for a post-show celebration lit up by a surprise performance by the Sparks. Front row stars from the worlds of fashion, film, music and sports including Rami Malek, Stellan Skarsgard, Paul Dano, Roman Coppola, Gael García Bernal, Kevin Love, Ludwig Goransson and others turned up on Zegna’s curated scene, which was designed to “blur the line between fashion show, cinema and cultural gathering.” To accomplish this, Zegna recruited Ron and Russell Mael and their Sparks band — on a night off from their international tour — to perform a rousing set that got the crowd dancing. Meanwhile, a big screen mounted against the backdrop of Bar Marmont reflected films by accomplished auteurs like Federico Fellini (La Dolce Vita, Amarcord, Roma), Luchino Visconti (Conversation Piece), Michelangelo Antonioni (L’Eclisse), Ettore Scola (C’eravamo Tanto Amati), Lina Wertmüller (Swept Away), Franco Brusati (Dimenticare Venezia), Salvatore Samperi (Malizia) and others. The scenes played were not accidental …

Bar Shrimp, Manchester M1: ‘This is meaningful, highly adept cooking’ – restaurant review | Food

I’m perched on a tall stool at a new Manchester bar, perusing a menu of fishy things and various aquatically adjacent items: Lindisfarne oysters, devilled eggs with brown crab and trout roe, hand-dived razor clams and scallop tartare with elderflower dressing. Bar Shrimp sits on New York Street, which feels weirdly fitting, because this place is much more “quietly sceney” New York than anything remotely “aren’t we edgy?” London. Glass-fronted, with discreet net curtains and a Tracey Emin-esque neon name sign, inside it’s draped, floor-to-ceiling, in red, just like in those red room scenes in Twin Peaks. Expect oversized, monogrammed ice cubes, nine types of mezcal and just as many amaros, as well as a menu featuring the likes of cuttlefish sandwiches and buffalo fried cod with blue cheese dressing. Bar Shrimp is a dog whistle to 1980s kids such as myself, who grew up seeing New York in the likes of After Hours or Wall Street, or in something with James Spader being up to no good and drinking Japanese whiskey highballs. It’s a …

DTLA law firm partners face State Bar charges in California

DTLA law firm partners face State Bar charges in California

The State Bar of California has charged the partners of Downtown LA Law Group, a law firm at the center of a scandal that has consumed Los Angeles County’s $4-billion sex abuse settlement, with signing up clients in states where they had no license to practice. The bar charged Farid Yaghoubtil and Daniel Azizi, two founding partners of the personal injury firm, and Igor Fradkin, a litigation attorney, on Monday with signing up accident victims across the U.S., despite having no attorneys who could litigate the cases outside California. The firm took on clients in Texas, Florida, Maryland, Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia, according to the complaint. Downtown LA Law Group, or DTLA, said in a statement that the cases highlighted by the bar “are multi-jurisdiction with California defendants.” “DTLA is confident they will be able to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of both the State Bar and our law firm,” the firm said. Yaghoubtil faces 16 counts, including practicing law without a license, charging illegal fees, and continuing to represent a client …

Senate Rejects First Effort to Bar Trump From Creating .8B Settlement Fund

Senate Rejects First Effort to Bar Trump From Creating $1.8B Settlement Fund

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans cleared the first hurdle on Thursday as they are struggling to pass legislation to fund President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agencies, narrowly beating back a Democratic effort to permanently block Trump from creating a $1.776 billion settlement fund for payouts to allies who claim they were persecuted by the government. Republicans still face a gauntlet of Democratic amendments before the bill can advance, setting up a daylong test of party unity. More votes on the settlement fund are planned, including proposals from Republicans, and it was unclear if GOP leaders would be able to fend them all off and pass the legislation. “I can’t predict how it comes out,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune told reporters between discussions with some of the holdouts off the Senate floor. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Democrats plan to force votes on the tax immunity granted to Trump as part of the settlement and a host of other issues — including Trump’s East Wing ballroom project, his tariffs, his war with Iran …

Shia LaBeouf Pleads Guilty to Battery Charges Over Mardi Gras Bar Fight

Shia LaBeouf Pleads Guilty to Battery Charges Over Mardi Gras Bar Fight

Shia LaBeouf has pleaded guilty to charges relating to an altercation during an extended Mardi Gras bar crawl that erupted into violence. During an arraignment on Wednesday, magistrate Judge Juana Lombard issued LaBeouf a six-month suspended sentence with two years’ probation. He must also receive rehabilitation for alcohol abuse, sensitivity training and anger management classes. The actor was charged with three counts of battery for fighting two men involved in ejecting him from a bar, where he was allegedly causing a disturbance and displaying violent aggression. One of the alleged victims later characterized the confrontation as a hate crime because he was called a homophobic slur, though the court declined to add additional charges. In a statement, Sarah Chervinksy, a lawyer for LaBeouf, said the incident was “nothing more than a minor Mardi Gras bar tussle.” “There is no evidence it was about bias or prejudice, which is why the state only charged these low-level misdemeanors,” she added. “Mr. LaBeouf came to court today wanting to take accountability for his part in what happened, and …

Jeffrey Damnit, a well-known local entertainer who police named as Jeffrey Klein in the incident report, said he was one of the people attacked by LaBeouf. “He hit me, he connected a few times with punches, he pushed me a few times,” Damnit said earlier this year. LaBeouf “just got nuts” trying to start fights and telling the entertainer and others that he would beat them up, Damnit said. LaBeouf has had several run-ins with the law during his career, including …

Where was Tip Toe filmed? The real Canal Street bar doubling for Spit & Polish

Russell T Davies is back on Channel 4 with a spiritual successor to his legendary LGBTQ+ drama Queer as Folk, which returns to some of its characters’ old haunts – but from a very different perspective. Described as an “emergency” by the prolific screenwriter, the series sounds the alarm over rising homophobia and transphobia in Britain today, which is just one aspect of a wider atmosphere of mistrust between various groups. We meet next-door neighbours Leo (Alan Cumming) and Clive (David Morrissey), who have peacefully coexisted for more than a decade, until an awkward incident leads to a rapid disintegration of their relationship. Expect a disturbing tale that urges greater communication and compassion to avoid a catastrophic future, set against the backdrop of one of the country’s most popular cities (and its famous gay quarter). Here’s everything you need to know about where Tip Toe was filmed, including the real bar that doubled for Leo’s fictional Spit & Polish and the quiet street where its fateful events unfold. Where was Tip Toe filmed? David Morrissey …

18 Best Bar Soaps, Tested by Editors

For years I avoided bar soaps because I only associated them with my skin feeling tight and dry, something I wanted to avoid at any cost. Instead, I relied on liquid body washes or shower oils. While reporting and testing bar soaps for this story, I noticed a shift in many of their formulas — they’re not as drying as I always thought and work as well as a traditional body wash. (That dryness typically came from formulas with unbalanced pH levels — something many brands have now adjusted for, according to Dr. William Huang, a board-certified dermatologist and adjunct professor at Duke University.) To help debunk common bar soap misconceptions, I spoke to three board-certified dermatologists about their advantages over body washes and what to consider when shopping for one. Alongside the help of my colleagues, I also tested some popular options. Want more from NBC Select? Sign up for our newsletter, The Selection, and shop smarter.
