This year’s commencement speeches in higher education have witnessed some unexpected incidents. Namely, on a few occasions, college students vocally booed speakers for their comments about AI. This might seem “unexpected” just because we’ve seen the litany of opinion pieces on how prevalent generative AI use has become among students, and to be sure, this represents a major problem, and one that isn’t going away. The speaker was Florida-based businesswoman Gloria Caulfield, the Vice President of Strategic Alliances for Tavistock Development Company, a real estate firm. In her speech, she triumphantly announced that “we are living in a time of profound change,” and that while “change is exciting, very exciting,” it can also be “daunting.” To illustrate this extremely lukewarm take, Caulfield then declared: “The rise of artificial intelligence is the next Industrial Revolution.” The job-seeking graduates, however, weren’t exactly thrilled with Caulfield’s AI optimism. The starting gun for the Premier League run-in will sound this lunchtime at the Emirates, where most of the crowd will be pleading for a stress-free victory over Bournemouth. It’s easy to forget, given all the recent negativity, that Arsenal’s last Premier League game ended with one of the most euphoric moments of the entire season – the joyous celebration of Max Dowman’s clinching goal against Everton.  That game was almost a month ago. During the Premier League’s spring break Arsenal went out of both domestic cup competitions and Manchester City produced arguably their two best performances of the season to beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final and thrash Liverpool in the FA Cup. There was a rather strange moment in the tunnel before the sides emerged as Uruguay captain Valverde was stood on his own in the tunnel, with none of his teammates there for quite some time. The vociferous outpouring of disapproval was unmistakable. In footage taken at Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena, the crowd loudly cheers for various celebrities on the jumbotron, until Zuckerberg’s unfortunate visage appears. Actor Mark Wahlberg? Sure, why not.
